Somehow withing the grand scheme of the chaotic hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps, Kit Santos found himself in a singles mixer. In a fantasy this would be the place he'd find the man or men of his dreams and the rest is confetti. So far he's been begrudgingly forced to listen to finance anecdotes, crypto scams, and how a guy truly believes Cristina Ricci is an alien. His eyes scanned the room, and he locked with another pair of eyes that seemed to be in the same need of escape as his.

"Hi best friend, and yup, we definitely told Brat and Summer that we'd end up playing Jenga with them, total high stakes in this game." he mused as he whisked her away before drawing a heavy sigh. "This night suck as much for you as it does for me? Why are the men that have talked to me here such duds?"

When a friend suggested a night out, Devi pictured something along the lines of going out dancing at Club 51, not a game night at a singles mixer. She supposed it was better than getting dragged along to something that felt a little more desperate like speed dating, but she still couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment with how she was spending her night off. To make make matters worse, she had just been stuck in what felt like the world's longest game of darts with someone who made watching paint dry seem more exciting than holding a conversation with them. At the suggestion of a rematch, she immediately panicked and locked eyes with someone else who was nearby. "Oh, I would, but I already agreed to a game of Jenga with them." She tried her best to communicate with the other using her eyes, "Isn't that right?"

Kit would definitely have a talk to the friends who signed him up for this when he wasn't even trying to look for love at the moment. There wasn't a soul here that interested him in the slightest, and it seemed as if the dregs of the dating world had all piled up in one small venue. "This whole thing seems more like a craigslist add than anything else," Kit sighed, the level of exasperation he felt was reaching new heights but it made him chuckle knowing there was another in the same boat. "Shocking," Kit said he looked to where Devi's eyes had shifted their attention and he guessed the friend must've snagged the only good option in this whole place. "Truly I get that, I've been stuck with some of the worst, there was a ventriloquist who told me his puppet thought I was attractive. So do you wish to indulge in some adult beverages, meaning diet coke and leave this place or something. Because I don't believe I'll find my prince charming anywhere around here. Unless you'd like to stay and talk to ventriloquist man?"

Perhaps It Wasn't The Best Thing To Admit, But Devi Was Relieved The Person Who Rescued Her From The

Perhaps it wasn't the best thing to admit, but Devi was relieved the person who rescued her from the draining conversation was just as miserable as she was at this thing. "I think it's safe to say it does." Her face twisted in annoyance, not at the other, but at how the night played out so far. "No seriously, it's like some of the worst of the worst this city has to offer all decided to gather here tonight. I don't know how anyone is supposed to meet someone they're actually interested in here." To be fair, she wasn't necessarily looking. Her life was enough of a dumpster fire as it was without adding romance to it, and well, she wasn't even sure of the type of person she would be interested in with her previous relationships mostly consisting of partners her parents would approve of rather than people she had genuine interest in. "Then again, the friend I came here with seems to be doing okay." She sighed softly before turning her attention back to the other, "Thanks for helping me by the way. I don't think I could've stomached another conversation revolving around that guy's favorite sports team through another excoriating game again."

"Yup, and I'm really not drunk enough to indulge in any sort of nonsense with guys. Hypothetical, I sleep with the guy and next thing you know I'm in one of those saw traps. So clearly this is all about the self preservation of my body and mind." Kit laughed, his eyes trying to avoid puppet guy as much as possible even if the man was waving over at him with his puppet's hand. "See this is what the world needs more of, standards, sanity, decorum. That last one I still don't personally have since I'm barely an adult even at my age, but still." Once given the green light to ditch this event he went off with his new friend. "You think we'll run into J-Lo at the bodega and she'll try to have us try her famous bacon egg and cheese, with a bag of chips, and an orange drink? But honestly, a bodega sandwich sounds heavenly right now, and since we're both hot I'm sure he'll give us extra."

The Thought Of Running Into Someone She Knew At What Was Now Described As Similar To A Craigslist Ad

The thought of running into someone she knew at what was now described as similar to a Craigslist ad filled Devi with horror. "Please tell me you're joking. He really tried to flirt with you through his puppet? I can't think of a single person that would actually work on." Now there was no way she couldn't be convinced that they were in the start of a very bizarre horror movie. She shot him a wide eyed expression and quickly shook her head. "You could not pay me enough to go talk to him or his puppet." Which was saying something these days. Her dark eyes darted back to where her friend was enjoying herself. Seeing as though she was occupied with someone, it probably wouldn't hurt to skip out on this thing. It'd be better than sticking around and waiting to interact with the ventriloquist or someone worse, if that was possible. "I'll take you up on that. Anywhere has to be better than here right now. I think there's a bodega nearby where we can get a diet coke and something other than pricey bar food." She suggested, more than ready to ditch the mixer.

"Exactly, like why wouldn't the two hottest people in New York city not have a life changing experience? What's more surprising is that we're here." Kit giggled thinking of how the fates had played their hand and somehow managed to put these two in the same place in this...let's call it an event. "Your mind is a dark place, and I kind of love it. He would probably caress my cheek with the puppets hand." At this he couldn't help but laugh at the mere image and scenario that was now playing in his head. "I know, time is truly just an illusion cause I still feel like I'm in my mid 20's and not about to be 30 years old." Nodding at the prospect of finally understanding what J-Lo's aforementioned and mysterious orange drink was, he was excited to make a new friend out of this horrible experience. "I'll let you handle it, last time I flirted with a straight man he wanted to elope."

Devi Wasn't A Huge Horror Fan, However, She Had Enough Knowledge To Catch The Other's Reference And Laughed

Devi wasn't a huge horror fan, however, she had enough knowledge to catch the other's reference and laughed at it. "The worst part is that I could see something along those lines happening." She was perhaps being overdramatic, but she was sure the other dodged a bullet either way. "Oh my god, or like he continued to talk to you through the puppet while you guys were hooking up." She shuddered. Yeah, the duo was definitely getting out of here before the puppet man or anyone else could stop them for yet another encounter neither one of them wanted to be in. "I completely forgot about that. I was thinking this year was flying by, but looking back that whole thing feels like ages ago." She supposed time was just strange like that, sometimes feeling like there was never enough of it and other times dragging on at a snail's pace. "That would be something though. Maybe we could even figure out what orange drink she was even talking about." Maybe the night wasn't so bad now she had an entertaining companion. "I don't think we'll have to, but I'm not above batting my eyes to get some extra."
