‘Yeah, starving for you, I guess…’ Gyutaro thought bitterly, continuing to look on as you gathered the calico in your arms, the three and a half legged creature letting out a gravely purr against your frame. Gyutaro never once thought he’d be envious of a cat of all things, though he admitted that it wasn’t surprising. He was always vexed by those more fortunate than him, and he’d be damned into the farthest reaches of hell if he claimed that he didn’t wish he were that cat, happily pressed into your chest, enjoying the warmth you seemed to radiate, such sweetness reaching to the rooftops, no, to the heavens themselves. Following you to a bridge, you encountered a small night market, Gyutaro letting out an annoyed huff when you dashed into a building and out of his line of sight. How bothersome. A frown settled onto his features, the demon planting himself in a crouch in a dark alleyways, hiding in the harsh shadows that hung all around him, glaring at the people that bustled about as he waited for you to emerge again. Gyutaro never thought he’d ever feel this antsy to see someone other than his sister again, although this was different than how it felt with Daki. He felt a strange sense of longing with you, he couldn’t put his finger on it, nor did he have time to as he saw you appear once more, every muscle in his body seemingly relaxing upon your visage gracing him once more. He felt himself put on a lazy smile as he leapt back to the rooftops. You were back in his sights, right where he always wanted you to be. Wait…He wanted you under his gaze all the time? Gyutaro frowned, his eyes widening as he stared through you, through that saccharine smile, his chest beginning to feel unbearably tight. It was only a week of watching you, how could he find himself flinging around thoughts of you always being under his hawk like stare constantly? Did he truly wish for such a thing? What was this odd burning in his heart? He scrambled backwards, falling off the building he perched upon with a yell, ripping a gasp from you. “Hello?” You called out, looking up from the cat you were feeding, having bought some fish, a small bowl and some milk for it. “Is someone there? You can come out, I won’t bite!” “Shit…” Gyutaro muttered, getting to his feet and swiftly slipping into the unseen. He was better than that, he was the Upper Moon Six! He was supposed to be good at this after doing it for over a century, what’s thrown him off his mojo now? Your eyes met his. His breath hitched as he stumbled further into the darkness, trying to ignore the siren’s call that was your voice trying to reach out for him.

It was merely another night, the usual routine for both you and Gyutaro; the demon keeping an eye on you, making mental notes of who to off after they left, you winding down to go to sleep while Gyutaro went to feed off those bottom feeders of men, and then he slipped back into the building to watch you as you slept; his favorite part of the night. He looked down at you with a softening gaze, relishing the warmth you always seemed to bring him, the soft feelings that would flutter in his chest as he gazed at your sleeping face. He traced your delicate features with his eyes, the moonlight outside painting you in a soft blue hue that always felt like he was watching you in a dream. You shifted in your sleep, Gyutaro tensing for a moment before you relaxed again, making him calm in turn. Some hair had slipped over your face as you rolled over onto your side, your front completely facing him from beneath your nightwear and blankets, lips parted in the rise and fall of your chest. A lazy smile overtook the upper moon’s features, calloused fingers reaching out and tenderly sweeping the strands away from your complexion to be tucked carefully behind your ear. Gyutaro paused for a moment, a sudden hit of enthrallment crashing into him as he stared at you, his hand centimeters from connecting with your cheek. His thoughts began to wander, heart beginning to burn once more, eyes growing lidded as he relaxed further into your presence. What if it could always be like this, but in a more intimate setting? You settled into bed, having fallen asleep waiting for him to come back, him slipping under the covers to hold you tight, cupping your cheek as you stared up at him with those mesmerizing eyes of yours- He recoiled almost as if you had burned him when his palm grazed your skin, a look of horror overtaking his features. When did he start thinking of you, a human, like this? His face was burning, a hot blush settled deep into his cheeks as he stared at you like you had stabbed him, his hand still tingling from the gentle warmth he exposed himself to when he touched your cheek. It felt forbidden to Gyutaro to imagine something so sweet, something so heart pounding, especially since he knew you’d take one look at him and scream in horror at how he looked. Scream at him to get away, a look of pure disgust filling your eyes. Something as small as the mere idea of you curling into his embrace or leaning into his touch felt wrong to him, and yet, his mind clawed to attach and cling to such thoughts, all while tearing such notions, such musings to complete ribbons, tattered beyond recognition. He didn’t deserve to feel such things, he’d never get them. A sigh left his lips, a groan leaving you and causing the demon to freeze upon seeing you stir. Gyutaro felt panic course through his veins, your form beginning to move and shake off the shackles of your slumber, eyes cracking open and still freshly hazed with sleep. “Wha-? Who-?” You looked up at him tiredly, the demon that towered above you not waiting another moment before he fled as if his life depended on it, ripping open your window and leaping from it, shock flooding your system and ripping you to full wakefulness. “Hey, wait! What’re you doing, y-you’ll end up killing yourself!” You screamed, rushing to the open window. You looked out, eyes wide in horror and confusion when you looked down and saw nothing there. “What the-? Where did-? How did-?” Gyutaro could hear you from outside, hiding in the shadows on the side of the building, heart hammering in his chest. You nearly saw him, nearly caught him. He was shaking, clawing at his skin until it bled, the anxiety and fear gripping him as harshly as it did when he was human. Breathe. Breathe. He couldn’t, everything was overwhelming, he couldn’t seem to even see straight, the edges of his peripherals blurring. He didn’t even register when his younger sister emerged from the food locker she had built, blood caking her fangs and chin from her fresh feeding.

“Brother?” Daki called, approaching her older sibling with a raised brow. Normally by now he would’ve fed and she’d find him staring at that new courtesan he was so obsessed with, so why was he out here hyperventilating and ripping himself open? She knew he healed quickly, the claw marks on his skin already healing after he shifts to scratch elsewhere. “Brother, what are you doing?” Daki asked again, her red and green eyes narrowing in irritation at the lack of acknowledgement. Gyutaro’s never ignored her like this before. Minutes passed, her brother soon curling in on himself, his eyes unsteady. Her impatience was melting and giving way to worry as she reached out to touch him.

Everything was blurry, he could hear a muffled voice, his sister’s he thought, but he couldn’t focus. He was still shaking, trying and failing to ground himself back to reality via pain, but all it was doing was intensifying the feeling of suffocation, of drowning in his own anxiety. The foreign touch on his shoulder made Gyutaro jump, a gasp being ripped from his throat, his amber orbs whipping to see his sister, her expression a mix of anger and fear. She was talking. Her lips were moving but the sound was muffled, as if he was submerged in water, everything still being drowned out by the thumping of his heart, the sound ringing in his ears. Gyutaro felt like he was going to pass out. He saw black spots dancing in his vision, the visage of his sister’s worry turning to panic being the last thing he saw before he blacked out.

And the prey in question is, despite the size difference, fucking terrified. I want that experience with Sugu. I want to hunt him through the wilds I grew up in, make my home field advantage known. He wouldn’t know how to even walk in this type of terrain, but I do. I want to watch how little time it takes for him to falter under temperatures he’s not used to, hear him panting under the exhaustion brought on by the sun’s heat, and smell his fear as it sinks behind the mountains. I don’t see all that well at night but I would make it known to him that I do not sleep, and he shouldn’t either, if he doesn’t want to get caught. But why wouldn’t he? It’s more thrilling if he can’t see me coming at all. There’s a tingle in his gut when he senses me behind him, a deep rumble in my throat that’s more felt than heard. Am I deranged Lottie
