I did 100% design Charon to be an existential horror story. SOMA messed me up for years after I played it, and Charon gave me an opportunity to explore some of those themes in a different sandbox with different stakes. I’ve always liked horror, particularly when it’s used in subtle ways to complement other genres, and I tried to do that a bit with this story

(sorry for my bad English. I just wanted to send you a small ‘thank you’ ask but then I wrote 400 words and tumblr character limit pisses me off so here I am)

I fucking love Charon it makes me look stupid  I’m so mad about how much Charon is breathtaking and awe-inspiring and brilliant and OVERWHELMING I just- I think sometimes it was really too much. I cried a lot… 

Dan was my favourite character, I projected a lot onto him, when he was resurrected I was really upset and cried hard. I’m so so so MAD about their decision to make him live, it’s so egoistical and yet so human and real… when rk900 said it was to help Gavin getting through his new cyborg life I was like ‘no wft Gavin please tell him something’ but NO Gavin was ok with that because Dan ‘deserves a new possibility’. Then Dan woke up and the first thing he did was CRY AND ASK WHY DAMMIT. It made so emotional…

  I remember that when Gavin was imprisoned I had to take a break. It was 3am or something and I couldn’t read more because my eyes hurt but my brain was awake so I couldn’t stop myself – Anyway when Gavin was brainwashed for the second time I had to slow down because it was too scary. I’m not used to read horror stories (and I’m not even sure you define your story as ‘horror’) but I really think it is. I was scared because it was all so unpredictable. Their pain was R E A L.

I felt what Gavin was feeling, his loneliness, his anger, everything. At first I couldn’t believe he was killed. I. Couldn’t. But he was and it was AMAZING.

I couldn’t predict what would happen. How could Gavin, who hates androids, became an android? I thought RK900 would save Gavin. But Gavin had to save his ass himself. That’s sadist. I like that.

And the ending? Wonderful. I would have NEVER expected that. I had to numbly read about Gavin and rk900 killing the criminal. It was so socially and ethically wrong (at least to me) that I was shocked. 

Thank you really I just want to thank you for /how much/ I felt reading your masterpiece. I wish it was a book so when people ask me what my favorite book is I could tell them it’s Charon
