Oooooo, I like both those ideas, and it gives me another one
Video game kinda thing/based world, maybe like halfway between Minecraft and Undertale in terms of how 'respawning' works, maybe with a bit of Groundhog Day (movie) thrown in. If we go for the reality changes slightly everytime we could throw in a bit of that one episode in Star Trek: TNG where Worf gets flung through like 20 different parallel realities within a week or smth (I dunno if you know what Im talking about, but you can kinda get the gist just from that)
Either theyre trying to escape the death cycle or they just fucking hate each other, or amybe a bit of both

OOOOO YES. Okok, do we want more nornal person these are just a couple of dudes, of something slightly more out of the ordinary? So on a scale of 1 to 10, with one being normal ass humans, 5 being like these dudes maybe have some abilities, and 10 being Monsters Inc type beat where nobody's normal, where do we want this to fall?

So, itd be really funny to have a middle aged guy about to snap and then an overworked uni student just absolutely fueding because theyre both just absolutely tired of life and about 2 seconds away from breaking a window
And it just slowly devolves into ripping each other apart every single reset
We might be able to take some inspo from The Day After Tomorrow (movie, basic premise is this guys fighting in a war and every time he dies he 'resets' back to a specific point and has to figure out how to make it further without dying) or maybe even Free Guy (movie, video game based, main character is an npc that become sentient, something something doesnt matter if they die because theyll always respawn because hes a video game character). If we go that route we could do something like maybe people trapped in a video game as npcs and theyre trying to get out but because its a video game who fucking cares if they die, but also thats why they keep running into each other because its scripted into the game that they meet via one way or another
As for the scale, I really like the reality bleeding idea a lot because of how subtle it is, and maybe we give them slightly inhuman or uncanny features just to hint that theres something off, but nobody really notices until the story really starts to get going
