Can I come over?

Y/N bit her bottom lip as she stared at Erik’s text. She welcomed his distraction; she had been working on a project for work for since she got home, but her stupid heart still skipped anytime his name appeared on her phone. Biting her lip, her fingers hovered about the keyboard.

 Erik is your friend! Why the fuck are you thinking so hard?

She just received a promotion to marketing manager at Cu!sine, an upcoming food ordering and delivery platform that was supposed to rival GrubHub and DoorDash in terms of prices and availability to those neighborhoods within food deserts. While she loved making six-figures now, especially as one of the few black women in charge at the company, it was stressing her the hell out.

Lately it’d hadn’t been any: friends, family, or fun.

 To add shit on top of it, her boyfriend of the last year broke up with her a few days ago, citing that, “She didn’t have time for him.” Which was bullshit. But kinda true.
