his quirk isn’t to it’s maximum when he tackles denki to the ground, but he doesn’t have time to hesitate once he sees the corner of the building above his friend’s head begin to crumble. as it is, he barely manages to maneuver himself over the blonde before the ceiling is falling down around them. it hadn’t looked like anything large enough to crush them, but he knew that getting hit with this rubble could break denki’s bones or potentially kill him if it any of it hit his head. he is still building upon the hardness of his quirk when he feels something suddenly tearing into his shoulder and sees a rush of blood splatter against denki’s jacket.

eijiro cries out in pain, surprise morphing onto his features as he looks down to see metal sticking out of the front of his shoulder. something seems to be putting pressure on the rod of metal as it continues to move forward through his flesh. at this rate it’s going to stab into denki as well, so eijiro does the only thing he can. he screams out in effort and agony as he hardens his skin further as quickly as he can, feeling the metal strain before it snaps off inside of him at both ends, the bit of metal that threatened denki now falling safely against his chest. 

the break causes the rest of the steel rod to veer just enough to land beside with a crash, and the piece of ceiling that had been pressing it down falls harshly against his back. the force seems to rush straight to his shoulder, his right arm almost buckling against the pain. but he forces himself up with a low groan, clawed fingers breaking into the floor beneath them. dust settles around them though it takes kirishima a long moment before he trusts that things have stopped falling. he can already hear sato and some of the others trying to reach them and move the slab of concrete off of them, and he doesn’t trust himself to move without collapsing on top of denki and potentially hurting his friend himself, so he focuses of keeping his arms arms rigid against the weight and the growing fire in his shoulder.

“ a-are.. you okay? “  he manages to force out after a moment, voice strained and reedy with pain as his arms begin to shake at either side of the blonde’s head.

knowing where to be in a battle was something that was likely to only come with experience, but it was something that eijiro wished he had down already. maybe if he had chosen to stay closer to the others rather than attempting to bulldoze his way to the villain, he’d have been in a better position to try to help them as the villain’s quirk suddenly exploded around them sending them flying. having been the closes to the source of the explosion, eijiro was sent flying back into the building well behind them. he was fine of course, pulling himself out of dents in buildings made by his own body was beginning to become commonplace. 

still, he hurries to his feet with more urgency than usual, the knowledge that his friends had been caught in the explosion too making him rush to check on them. bakugou was already on his way back to the villain, but then he sees denki a couple yards away, still on the ground. with a frown, he hurries forward, and as he gets closer he can see the blonde writhing in pain and holding his hip. dropping quickly to his knees, eijiro glances around quickly to make sure that they are more or less safe for the moment before leaning over his friend. 

“ denki, are you okay? what’s wrong? “  with the cover of his pants, he can’t really see anything wrong, but the lack of blood seeping through has to be a good sign at least. still, denki is clearly injured and eijiro needs to get him out of there before he can properly help him. the decision to lift him without knowing what the injury is exactly is a risky one, but he moves around so he can keep the hip that denki seems to be attempting to curl in around from touching him and tries to keep his legs from jostling too much as well. denki still cries out in pain however, which has eijiro wincing sympathetically as he works to get them out of the line of fire. 

“ i’m sorry, i’m getting you to help, okay.. you’ll be fine.. “ what if something was broken? why hadn’t he stayed closer?
