Hey, Austrian Neighbor! I love your art, both visual and written! Have a virtual hug š¤
Awwww, Vielen Dank! š„ŗā¤ļøš¤
*hugs back tightly*
I try my best to defend the honour of all those wonderful people. š¦š¹
So, itās the 210th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Battle of Borodino!
The annual reconstruction this year was absolutely superb in terms of itās heart-fullness and professionalism. So much effort was put into the preparation and final performance. I adore the work of historical reconstructors with all my heart and theyāve surpassed themselves, undeniably.
Today Iād love to share with you another small compilation of photos depicting all the colours of the jubilee Borodino! ā¤ļøššš

And hereās another piece of an enormous cake that was the main reconstruction few days ago - a cavalry scramble between various regiments of Russian and French sides!
It was quite hard to download but I hope its beauty redeems it all. āØ

Congratulations on being accepted into the VK Napoleonic ask! (I scroll through it occasionally).
Oh, thank you very much) šŗ
Due to the occasion thereās probably going to be much more info-oriented drawings with details on some biographical aspects or simply about the epoch itselfā¦
At least, I hope so. šš¦š¹
Smol re-enactment events at -20 something degrees Celsius are very fun, I can attest. š¤

At least, the scenery was magnificent! I love snowy winters with all my heart.
A magical sight indeed. āļø

Today I witnessed and participated in an amiable small-talk that can easily be considered āstuff of legendsā. š
Me, looking through a lovely pre-revolutionary book about Napoleonic era, which was provided to me for a brief introduction, and reading out loud some lines occasionally: "It is said that when the French heard about the Frankfurt proposals, they complained and laughed interchangeably at the thought that the fate of modern Europe would be in the hands of some Habsburgs or Hohenzollerns, who were the embodiment of German feudalism."
*light chuckles intensifying*
*then more coherent conversation takes place*
ā So, is it better to have French imperialism instead of German feudalism?)))
ā Yes. Keep flipping through. šæ
*chuckles instantly turn into homeric laughter*
āļøFriendly reminder: it was a simple joke, historical process is a much more complicated business as well as specific terms used in that purely comedic case. āļø
That sweet-sweet feeling of preparations for a reenactment event when youāve officially joined the team š

Just a smol insight. I couldnāt resist the temptation. š¤«
Annual visit to the Borodino field was quite pleasant this year because of extremely mild weather - with the sole exception of a day, when it was raining cats and dogsā¦
However, unfortunate circumstances sometimes have a bright side too. In this case the rain in the afternoon caused thick fog to appear at dusk which turned the whole landscape into a majestic dream. š

The latest reenactment also granted me a gift by the hands of an exceptionally talented person who made wonderful photos of me in the āhistoricalā garments I wear at events as such.
Iām definitely not a big fan of military life-style and discipline in an actual reenactment camp. And since there arenāt much people in civilian attires from the respective time period (they are present nonetheless), Iām glad to participate and fill up the ranks! š©

Unfortunately, sewing skills were never my forte, so the most important pieces of the attire were made by a professional seamstress who has a lot of experience in historical clothings. The garments arenāt perfect - far from it: I myself couldnāt properly track all the things that had to be done or mended, so it is what it is. But the colours I chose seem not bad at all. šš©·
(And yes, when it came to camera angles, we took direct inspiration from Caspar David Friedrich - how could we not, when the scenery was perfect for that!)
***
Thereāre also these close-up photos I took spontaneously which I really like despite them being a bit messy and imperfect.
What a shame for a proper Austrian gentleman on duty among the French troops! š¤«
