Headcanons Pt 3 1/2 - Ghosts
HOLY SH- I FORGOT ABOUT THE GHOSTS!! I mentioned Chara back in Cross's headcanons, but completely forgot that he, as well as Phantom, both have a bunch of headcanons just floating around in my noggin. Allow me to do this little thing.
Cross Chara:
Can and will possess Cross's body for fun and pranks. Doesn't care about what he has to say about this
Talks to Dust. Well, pesters him. But they're close enough that they could be considered friends
Adores Phantom. Like, these two get along like a house on fire. They cannot be left unattended lest the palace be reduced to rubble
Basically the core of all Cross's intrusive thoughts. In an inquisitive tone he'll just say; "You should pull the cookies out with your bare hands," "Chara, what the hell?! No!!" But then he does it anyway because he's more curious than cautious and now Nightmare has to tend to the stupidest burn imaginable. All Cross can hear is Chara's cackling
However, he actually cares about Cross. Not right away, of course. But at the very least, he knows he has to keep Cross alive. Eventually they bond, but even before that, Chara warns Cross of any danger he can't see
I'm a multishipper, so I'll pair Cross with whoever I'm feeling. Chara does not think like this. He would rather Cross stay sad and single, because if Cross is in a relationship, then Chara is stuck watching whatever sappy stuff the skeleton chooses to do
Phantom:
Honestly, doesn't completely resent Dust for his actions. He saw how utterly it destroyed him after everything was over
Acts pretty Papy when you get to know him. He's not a hallucination, but rather an apparition
Petty as hell. He did die, and he frequently reminds the three people who can hear him of that. Dust always feels guilty, Cross awkward, and Chara just laughs
Much like Chara talks Cross into doing things, Phantom talks Dust out of things. He acts as a conscious when Dust can't think through the bloodlust
Can just... cease at will. Pretty sure he just goes back to Dusttale, but he's not as tethered to Dust as Chara is to Cross. He uses this to his advantage
Doesn't interact with Cross much. He honestly finds the whole concept of Nightmare's Gang a bit off-putting. It's just his brother times six
He does like watching Horror cook. He takes notes. Horror also talks to himself while cooking at it makes Phantom feel a little more real, even if Horror can't actually see him
And there we have it! My ghosty bois headcanons! They are far more sympathetic than most people would write them, but I consider my gang the "best outcome" type, with everyone being the best version of themself. I like them all going from their tragic backstories to finding people in similar situations and growing together. An optimist's look at Nightmare's Gang, if you will. The only reason they spread negativity is to maintain the balance that Dream doesn't hold. Much like with Ink and Error.
