"Frisk. I'll be honest with you. Chara hated humanity."
What if their hatered was more then justified? Afterall humanity did seal Monsterkind under the mountain Ebott and potentially shunned a child to the same fate. CR!Underfell (short for "Chara was Right" Underfell) aims to explore a version of the underground and surface where humans were even more hostile towards monsters and each other.
Every fallen, be they a child or grown, tried to eradicate Monsterkind, taking more and more from them. The only thing the King of monsters could do is prepare his people for the next fallen, handing all the power to the royal guard. Like in the original Underfell, monsters became cruel and rash just to survive the tyranny of humanity and their own rulers.

Ruins, like the underground itself, is a place of exile. All of those who were called for the war on humanity, but refused to fight are sent to the old ruined capital, cursed with isolation, closeness to the birthplace of the fallen and raids of the guard.
Flowey, at least that's what it calls itself, can be seen everywhere in the underground, holding some power over it. Unlike the OG Flowey, he doesn't seem to hide or work from behind the scenes and is more powerful for spoiler reasons.
The mourning mother, a mysterious woman wandering the old capital. It is dangerous to cross her, fire seems to be her main weapon that she uses recklessly, it seems like she just wants to be left alone. She seems to be afraid of children, to the point when the kind exiled folk had to abandon the stiped clothing tradition. The exiled of the ruins often hear cries from the birthplace of the fallen, as if the mother is mourning them. Some monsters say that she holds on to a relic of one of the fallen that she at one point seen as her child before they lashed out on the ruins' population to find an exit.
A portion of the ruins is believed to be haunted. The ghosts are one of the few monsters that cannot be attacked with physical damage, making them way less likely to be killed by the more often then not magicless fallen. This quality makes them especially valuable for the royal guard, hoarding power for their war on the fallen. Napstablook was once called for the war, but the guard couldn't force them to intentionally use their power against others. The fierce "training" of the guard seems to have broken the ghost's will which made them useless for the guard. Now they wander the ruins as their place of comfort.
Training dummy of the ruins suffered a similar fate, but wasn't seen as useful to begin with. The guard is known for preventing possession of the ghosts, as they lose their ethereal qualities in the process.
The ruins are full of other monsters, exiles from the outside and "order enforcing" members of the guard. Many here have scars from fights and raids.

Perhaps, I should have uploaded this first as an introduction CR!Underfell explores a version of the underground and the surface where monsterkind became more aggressive and harsh as a consequence of humans being as evil as Chara believed them to be (if not more). (Khm...)
Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS. One day, in blind fear and disgust of monsters, humans attacked. After a long spree of death, the monsters were defeated. Humans sealed the remaining monsters underground with a magic spell Many years later... Mt. Ebott 201X The mountain became a place of exile, those exiled never to return. For one reason or another, A child was exiled to the mountain. Some time later they returned in possession of a fractured monster soul. They reigned the surface with power and might until... Six years after they were dethroned and a sound of a new fall was heard A body covered in blood of others and it's own appeared in the birthplace of the fallen.

After multiple fallen attacks once humble town of Snowdin was turned into a military outpost with the forest around it used to stop the fallen in their tracks once they left the land of exiled.
Snowdin is a harsh place to live in, being constantly surrounded by members of the royal guard gives any misplaced word or action a price too big to pay. This place won't let you leave either, every citizen can theoretically replace a dead guard or serve the ones that are alive.
Once his brother joined the royal guard, Sans had to follow to prevent all the suffering Papyrus will inevitably face, even if to the outsiders he'll be just another rookie. Sans makes little to no progress in his "career", staying at his post as one of the forest overseers. The skeletons couldn't escape the harsh treatment of the guard members, Sans even lost a tooth in one of the meaningless fights he got into.
Any rookie who joins the guard will have to face judgment and suspiction from a crowd of those taught in blood and dust to attack outsiders. Papyrus was one of those rookies. Not having too good of an imposing facade, he had to create one for himself. First was a crack in his skull, caused by one of the trainings, then sharpened teeth after a tough day of humiliation. His determination and skill with traps allowed him to climb up the ladder quick, now he's one of the overseers of the Snowdin forest that he fills with traps and puzzles to prevent the fallen and civilian escapees traversing between the land of the exiled and the rest of the underground.

Long time members of the guard like the hounds seem to been "modified" In some way. Monsters that were in contact with them say that the dogs are "unnaturally soft" And "sticky". Most of them also behave in an unstable manner, some seem to be in a kind of constant trance, others attack everything that moves friend or foe, one of them even had to be restrained. The most sane ones seem to be the dogi, they take care of others, but often lose control.
The hounds often become victims of many traps in the forest, serving as additional obstacles in them.

The town itself is way less jolly and humble then it used to be. Hotels are now also used as barracks and bars serve the rations for the guards, sacrificing warmth and liveliness of the town for practicality.
Everyone who lives on the border between the land of exiled and the rest of the underground has to be under constant watch. Many who misspoke or acted somewhat suspicious were immediately exiled to the ruins, sometimes leaving their children behind (such as monster kid).
Many civilians join the guard under threats of separation from their families via exile. Even when there is no fallen in the underground, life of a guard is not easy, exhausting practice sessions, other fight-hungry members of the guard and civilians and constant scouting for the new fallen.
The only escape rout for those ready to take that risk is a mysterious ferry person that appears at night to transport you to many corners of the underground. Some say that they were once attacked by the high ranking guard members for their activity.

(I take commissions, btw, I can draw you, your ocs, some kind of illustrations, a lot of things really)

Dry boards of the bar floor creek beneath your seat, the air is sear, but still somehow cold and uneasy.
You sense attention of other visitors aimed on you. Why did you even agree to go with this skeleton into a place full of guards and angry Snowdin residents? Perhaps a battle with his brother exhausted you beyond refusing a potentially free meal. There is no turning back now.
The plate stares into your very soul, as if a lure for a hare ready to be hunted or trapped, but there is still no choice.
anyway, intimidating or not, you have to agree papyrus tries his best.
The skeleton started talking as if not caring about the hustle behind him.
like how seriously he takes being a part of the royal guard.
one day, he went to the house of the head of the royal guard…
he was determined to make her train him personally
of course, the guards of the house caught him because he was sneaking in.
but seeing his dedicated attempts, she decided to give him warrior training.
Awkward silence settles in, with a slight delay, the crowd freezes as well.
oh yeah, I wanted to ask you something.
The world falls into a quiet abyss, seemingly to give your dialog privacy.
have you ever heard of the talking flower?
You have seen something like that in the beginning of your journey through the mountain and an echoing flower next to Sans's second workplace. Not being sure which one is in question, you respond with a yes.
so you know all about it.
the golden flower.
it has taken over the marsh.
it's powerful, some even consider it a god.
what about it?
well, papyrus told me something interesting the other day.
sometimes, when no one else is around…
a flower appears and whispers things to him.
flattery…
advice…
encouragement…
… prophecy.
someone must be using an echo flower to play a trick on him.
keep an eye out, ok?
thanks.
Sans gets off the bar chair and the room seems to unfreeze
welp, that was a long break.
i can't believe i let ya pull me away from my work for that long.
grillby, put me on my tab.
As the skeleton leaves, the crowd departs in front of him.
by the way, I wanted to tell you something…
but i forgot.
Sans turns around alerting the crowd and leaves.
You start leaving too, but something tells you that you won't without a fight. Did he lead you here knowing the danger? Why did he tell you about the flower? The secrets and mysteries learned make you determined to make it out alive.
(I take comissions, btw! Can draw something for you too)

Monster souls are fragile and disappear after death, only souls of boss monsters can persist, even if only for a moment, allowing humans to consume it to gain power. Any human soul, meanwhile, is strong enough to stay and change fate after death, making it accessable to any monster. Yet the underground knows of creatures without souls at all. Those that can consume both human and monster souls to fill the void they sense, growing in power. Once too weak and secretive now work openly as a powerful pillar of the underground. Vines twist and bind beyond most monsters' reach, collecting knowledge and manpower to fulfill it's purpose to reach the surface with help of a fallen's soul. After all, the fallen once so perseverent on eradicating the underground's inhabitants was so familiar in it's hatered… so determined. And still the golden flower plays, the last piece in the scheme is in it's reach, but it allows itself to just observe and wait.

Waterfall is a border between small towns of Snowdin and civilization of Hotland, a perfect place for those who don’t want attention or outsider accessibility: rare rebels, higher guards, trash salesmen. With every fallen, monsterkind’s prophecy was changed. Where once stood one angel that would free monsters, now is seven, just like the fallen that tried to free monsters by death. Most rejected all versions of now darker prophecy, others rebelled and looked for idols like the golden flower, turning six of the seven circles on the emblem into petals and the seventh one into a face. Those most negatively affected by the current rule of the royal guard, like the bodiless ghosts, are most likely to join the ranks of the new prophecy. They are spies and assassins, living among unsuspecting guards and residents. Not all serving the current rule are royal guards. Once hero of the war, Gerson Boom, now sifts through trash in search of old armor and trinkets to sell. Not every guard can get their share of protection that is necessary for effective service. A head of the royal guard, Undyne, also lives nearby, kept safe by other guards. The royal scientist with mysterious equipment often visits her.

Deep into waterfall’s marshes, a strange folk lives. They call themselves “temmies” and seem to be connected to the golden flower that has it’s roots and vines all over the marsh. In fact, they seem to be flower’s earliest attempt at creating a cult in it’s own name. Temmies trade secrets and items both with each other and outsiders, most likely such market is encouraged by the golden flower that influenced their culture.

Royal guard and it’s head practically rule the underground. The king has given most of the power to it a long time ago, once monsters realized that defense from the fallen might be the first priority. One could say that despite having a head, the organization is simply too widespread and powerful to not be uncontrollable and corrupt to some degree. Royal guard interacts closely with the royal scientist and other Hotland agents for resources. Some even believe to have seen the head of the guard, Undyne, and the royal scientist interacting personally, which rebels call the reason for guard’s seeming affliction. Undyne rarely leaves her house, making her control over the guard even lesser, and when she does, she wears a restricting suit which doesn’t seem to be able to stop her. Whispers and rumors say that both the canine unit of Snowdin and the head of the guard were subjected to the similar strengthening treatment by the royal scientist. Yet Undyne seems to be less negatively affected by it for unknown reasons.

The royal scientist is known for shady experiments she performs and deadly machines she builds and controls.
Only a few of those ordered to be transported to the lab came back. The sick are never seen again and the guards return… different. Monsters who live in Hotland and the capital heard of the reason for those transformations and disappearances, "determination". Something withing the souls of the fallen that allows them to persist after death once injected into monsters makes them fearless and more difficult to kill. At first the determination experiments and their side effects were kept secret, but once the royal scientist saw the potential for protection of monsterkind being silent about it became impractical.
Yet the creation of soldiers is not the only use of determination, as it seems to be able to give the will to live to things that never lived to begin with. Alphys the royal scientist found a way around the difficult engineering process, using monster dust, determination and ghosts' ability to posses objects to create machines that prevent fallen attacks and resident monsters from escaping their designated location.
The first machine that got Alphys her position was a "robot with a soul" that now calls himself Mettathew. While after his creation he went against the underground's status quo, joining the golden flower as it's right hand man as a propagandist, Alphys still keeps upgrading his body into an effective fallen eradication device.
Now Mettathew provides entertainment to the monsterkind. Most see him as a distraction from the "real" problems like a potential new fallen, the other few consider him an oracle of the golden flower that will eventually free monsters.

Some CR!Underfell trivia (Ruins edition)
Despite being exile grounds, Ruins in this au are less closed off, it's not rare to see guards from the outside entering and leaving the old capital.
Napstablook is less mobile in this universe, but can still fly and pass through walls.
If you listen closely, you can hear sobbing coming from Ruins' training dummy. Perhaps you could cheer it up?
Flowey has more Asriel features then the original because of the soul he has consumed.
Toriel still clings onto a relic of one of the fallen, red ribbon of the patience soul.
(To The CR!Underfell masterpost)

Alphys expected to take your soul right there in the lab, but Mettathew stopped her with his dangerous quiz show. You can guess that it's only to keep you alive for just enough time to get your soul to himself or the golden savior he mentioned.
To keep you in check, Mettathew gave you a "mettaphone", a strange gadget used both for communication and general utility.
An ominous structure looms in the distance. It's covered in scorched wines, familiar faces and symbols blink on it's screens.
Ring…
Name "Mettathew" appears on the screen of the mettaphone.
SEE THAT BUILDING IN THE DISTANCE, DARLING?
THAT'S THE CORE, SOURCE OF UNDERGROUND'S POWER.
AND THAT'S WHERE YOU ARE HEADED!
DON'T BOTHER GETTING TO THE ELEVATOR TO THE CASTLE, YOU WON'T GET THAT FAR ANYWAY.

Muffet is believed to be one of the wealthiest monsters in the underground, yet, no matter how much she gains, spiders cannot leave the old capital. Even if the icewall of snowdin can be bypassed, the guards will not let out civilians from ruins. It is believed that the secret of muffet's success is help from the golden flower itself, it is known for uncanny knowelege of possible futures. Of course the flower takes something in return, afterall, who pays attention to a mere spider in the corner. Listening, watching, spinning a web of connections over the entire hotland and borders of waterfall.

CR!Underfell trivia (Snowdin edition)
Sans drink ketchup (more like tomato paste) from tin cans, as glass and plastic bottles are less avalable in this version of underground.
Sans zips up his jacket and Papyrus still wears scarf and gloves over his armor because snowdin town is less warm in this universe.
Snowdrake's father wears a flask with a part of his wife's amalgam which was sent by the royal scientist.

The core was full of mercenaries and flower cultists, but machines were surprisingly friendly, as if listening to your reasons to let you through. Now, to the last man standing in your way, the robot preformer himself. This time he won't go easy on you, he has to get your soul. For monsterkind's freedom. After a short prelude and a click of a switch, the true show begins. But something goes horribly wrong.

Made a little reference sheet thingy. Alphys wasn't as accepting of Mettathew's wishes. Yet monsterkind has very little anyway, so it still loves him.

A long time ago A human fell into the RUINS.
Injured by it's fall, the fallen screamed in pain.
ASRIEL, the king's son, heard the fallen's call.
He brought the human back to the castle.
Over time, ASRIEL and the fallen became like siblings.
The King and Queen were still distrustful of the fallen child.
But slowly underground became full of hope for peace.
Then…
One day…
ASRIEL became very ill.
On his death bed ASRIEL
had only one
selfless goal.
To let the fallen see
the flowers from
it's village.
The next day.
The next day.
…
ASRIEL died, his dust
spread over the garden
in the throne room
The fallen, By the
allowance of it's sibling,
absorbed ASRIEL'S SOUL.
They gained incredible power.
With the prince's
SOUL, the fallen
crossed through
the barrier.
It walked into
the sunset.
Back to the
village of the
humans.
The fallen, full of
hatered for it's own
kin.
Slaughtered those
who once exiled it
to the mountain.
Blood, both it's own
and of others covering
their body.
For six years
the fallen walked the surface
seeking to bring death to
anyone in it's way.
Humans could not take
it any longer.
They cornered the now
injured fallen back
at the mountain.
The humans
attacked it
with everything
they had.
It was struck
with blow after
blow.
The lone fallen
couldn't fight an
armed crowd.
And so…
With it's dead brother's
soul…
Now with a grin on
it's face…
It fell once more.
Wounded and tired…
The fallen could not
have survived the fall,
Returning home…

Some accidental memery with that latest one.
And yeah, I love making their colors a little different.

Monsters told you their story, the reason you will have to give up your soul.
The castle now stands before you, looming over the empty gray city.
Golden hall, murky air, light barely shines through covered windows. A familiar figure stands in your way.
so you finally made it.
the end of your journey is at hand
in a few moments, you will meet the king
and together…
you will determine the future of this world.
that's then.
now.
you will be judged.
you will be judged for your every action…
(The figure speaks of your actions, both good and bad, every time you made friends, every time you ran away, every time dust was on your hands. What results will your actions bring.)
no matter how much or little pain you've caused
your soul alone won't bring us freedom.
neutrality will bring us nowhere,
you need to act upon what you have.
what will you do?
...
well, if i were you, i would have thrown in the towel by now.
but you didn't get this far by giving up, did you?
that's right. you have something called "determination."
so long as you hold on...
so long as you do what's in your heart...
i believe you can do the right thing.
alright. i'm counting on you, kid.
good luck.
