Yandere Raneus? 😳
Hoo boi where do I begin with this boy--
For starters, Raneus is already well-known for his aloof and distant nature; he isn't one to actively socialize with other people and simply prefers to be alone surrounded by his work and very few close friends. If you aren't part of his small social circle, then the closest relationship you'd get with him is that of a business transaction.
However, it doesn't mean that he is incapable of loving someone else-- it's just that due to the way he was raised, the environment he grew up in, and the mindset he gained at a young age contributed to how he views relationships and the idea of "love" of the current time.
"Love" to him is nothing but a bother, he's seen how people become fools once they fall in love and he's never really seen his own parents act like they're in love so he's come to the conclusion that it's just a matter of convenience and idiocy. He's made a fine line between "love" and "like", so while he does LIKE his closest friends (such as Ophiou, who is arguably the closest person he has), he doesn't LOVE them as one would a romantic partner.
Once Ran finally finds his "Darling", though, he ends up actually realizing rather quickly that something is off with him when they are around, but he doesn't realize WHY exactly it early on. He ends up becoming frustrated and irritated at their presence, his eyebrows furrowing and his scowl becoming deeper once they are in the general area.
He hates this feeling. It's something unknown (at least to him) that is disturbing his entire being-- from his work ethic, to his mental and emotional state. Raneus tries to desperately bury himself in work after work and it actually works... until he eventually finishes up his queue and the thoughts quickly flush back in.
Eventually he puts two and two together; he is indeed IN LOVE with his "Darling". The revelation actually almost causes him to enter an existential crisis, but he just ends up laughing at the irony. He's actually one of the few who is quick to adapt and accept his darker tendecies (and is the opposite of his childhood friend in that manner).
Once Ran finally gets a handle on himself, he's very patient at trying to build a friendly relationship with his Darling. He's fully aware of the reputation he's built, along with their first impression of him not being the best, so he's perfectly willing to go through the very slow process of getting close to them. ... It doesn't mean that he isn't complaining on the inside though.
