I don't think you're contradicting yourself bc yeah, he fought back so they are ready to destroy him ( maybe if it had happened earlier things would have been different but it's been twenty years and all their frustration and rage has been piling up so Telemachus is screwed now) they want to rile him up , to see him try to fight them only to be inevitably beaten and remeber he's nothing compared to them BUT they also want to see him cower, run away. I think they would kill him for funsies but seeing him run is probably more fun+ it would make Penelope less mad, so at the very end , after playing with him they do give him the possibility to "run away before you die"
I also love the little wolf nickname bc it's so cute !!! One more thing that ties him to Ody !! AND THESE BITCHES USE IT TO TAUNT HIM!! TO SAY THAT HE WILL NEVER LIVE UP TO HIS FATHERS NAME!!
