AITA for writing an album about my crush without telling her?
So I (I’ll call myself M, 23nb) have a crush on this girl I’ll call L (23f). Only problem is, she’s straight. And she has a boyfriend I’ll call J (23m) that she has a son with. I’ll call him H (5m). I met L and J in my last year of school, all of us were 18 except for H, who L was pregnant with him at the time. We became fast friends, and for a while it was just that. Friends. When we were 20 I started to notice things about them. I’m a couple months it was a full blown crush. She and J were happy, and obviously there’s H, so I didn’t say anything. I have no ill will towards either J or H, and I genuinely wish them all the best.
I make my career via a YouTube channel, but I have a music career as a side job. I’ve always been passionate about writing songs, and I consider them my coping mechanism. And falling in love with a girl who is literally incapable of feeling the same way about me, well, let’s just say I wrote a lot of songs about that. Enough for and album. And so I decided to release them as an album. Several songs mention the names of L, J, and H, as well as what they look like. Only first names, but if you know them at all, it’s pretty obvious it’s them. I will say that if you’re a stranger, you couldn’t identify them with the information I put in those songs. Now here’s the part where I might be TA. I didn’t tell them. L, J, anybody. I just quietly released it, knowing they would see it.
And see it they did. L came up to me pretty quickly, and we had a talk. Apparently L knew I had a crush on her (I did not know she knew, but apparently I wasn’t as subtle as I thought I was), and let me down (again, nothing unexpected, she’s straight and in a happy relationship) and then proceeded to call me TA for writing and releasing an album about her and her family without her knowledge. She called it creepy and invasive. I hadn’t though about it that way, but I see where she’s coming from.
So, AITA?
