âYou know potions,â started Artemis as they reached the midway point of the brewing process.
âWhy thank you.â
Artemis chuckled. âI was wondering if you knew any that made someone heat-proof. Or, heat resistant.â
âHow resistant are we talking? A regular house fire? Potion explosion?â
Artemis looked up from crushing the juniper berries. Garreth in turn looked back with an innocent smile.
âA dragonâs fire.â
Garrethâs jaw dropped. â...a what?â
âA dragonâs fire.â
âOkay, my hearingâs fine.â He stirred the potion as he poured in half the chopped dumbcane leaves. âWhy?â
Artemis smiled small.
âThatâs not an answer, Snow.â
âI can offer you something in exchange for the recipe and your discretion?â
Garreth lifted an eyebrow with a cocked smile. âIâm all ears.â
âLeech juice. Ample amounts.â
âBrilliant!â Garreth exclaimed as the potion turned a midnight blue. âWhere are you getting them from?â
âSpinnerâs Cavern.â
âWait, arenât there spiders roaming about? Heard my aunt talking about it last year.â
She blinked twice; of course heâd know, she shouldâve thought of that. âThatâs the rumour.â
Garreth groaned. âWhy is it always spiders?â
âWhat else could it be?â
âButterflies?â
âPretty sure they donât like caves.â
âBugger.â
Artemis chuckled before they moved on to the next steps, and Garrethâs peridot eyes glimmered at finally opening the last bottle of arcane lightning. Garreth followed her exact instructions on how to tip the bottle just right before uncorking and disabling the safety runes. The redhead let out a gleeful shout as half of the teal-lightning shot into the liquid; the runes lit up once more when it was corked.
âNice job,â complimented Artemis.
âThank you, Iâm here all week.â
