Meet my original characters, D and Holly.

In my art here (hand drawn entirely in Procreate), they are featured in a setting early in the novel, a fae "slip" from Above (the human world) that seems to be frozen in an eternal Autumn, where red leaves fall impossibly slowly to the ground, and leaving the path might lead to one's doom. The pair have just met and aren't quite sure what to make of each other. Every time he looks at her, she seems to be looking at him...

D knows that Holly has the answers as to where the stones he is looking for are, but her behavior is very strange and unpredictable. Sometimes she's shy and playful, and other times she is so cold she seems almost dead. Her clothing is ill fitting, and she doesn't seem to have a place to live, but she won't explain anything beyond what her request was for D to fulfill. Now that he's completed that task, it's Holly's turn to serve him. She seems obedient enough, but can he really trust her?

D hasn't worked with humans too often before —and never without his teacher slash sort of parent, the Grand Supreme demon C accompanying him— but even he knows that something is just not right with this young woman. But what could it be?

He needs to set his questions aside, as a fae slip is a very dangerous place to be—and Holly seems either blissfully unaware, or willfully suicidal...
