Roseate Spoonbills (like the Flamingo) obtain their characteristic coloring by rolling around on deposits of red clay or other iron-rich soils. After rains these birds become particularly vibrant as the water helps the dirt “soak in” to the feathers, eventually staining them permanently.

Yes they can! I’ve mentioned before how Roseate Spoonbills dye their feathers, how pelicans are natural cosmetologists, and about how juvenile grebes show their musical tastes, but I think my favourite example is the Lammergeier. Like the Spoonbill, they will rub themselves on ruddy materials in order to darken their feathers, but they also paint their faces. The current scientific consensus hypothesizes the long bands of dark colour on the face are the result of these birds attempting to paint on “angry” eyebrows, presumably to make themselves appear more fierce.
Today is the first wash of the purple hair🤞I may be crying in the club later guys
