Comfort of a Lover
Roronoa Zoro X Reader angst one-shot
Finally spotting his figure, you ran to him as best you could. Collapsing to your knees when at his side. His eye shot open at the sound but he visibly relaxed at the sight of you. "I did it (Y/n), I beat them" he declares proudly, but tone overtaken with sorrow
The lifeless body of Zoro's opponent catches your eye. You give him a proud nod "I'm sorry" his voice cracks. Zorro's always calm deep voice cracks. In response, you bite your lip and reel the moss head in. This was it. This would be goodbye. It dawned on you the moment his apology left his lips
"It's okay, my brave marimo. It's okay"
You held him gingerly in your arms. Petting through his head of moss. There was a lot of blood, it stained everything. His eye trailed over your face, studying your features before resting on his chest. Tears welled up in your eyes but you held them all back. Trying to bring him comfort in his final moments. A soft smile forced upon your lips and a light eye smile as well. Your (e/c) windows holding more swirling emotions than you'd like to be transmitting
"Please hold me" he husked. Expression pained. You pressed your mouth into a thin line to avoid the sob or crack of your voice if you spoke. His eye moved to look at your face again and you pulled him even closer
Swallowing the lump you responded as firmly as you could "I'd never dare let go" with your left hand you held his head, right pulling Zoro further into your lap. You held his hand firmly at his side, cradling his dying figure. His once prominent warmth slowly oozing away in the form of crimson. He closed his eye, basking in your warmth finding comfort in your presence. You dare not even blink afraid you'd miss something, this was the last of the love of your life
The tears became too gathered to be able to hold back and a couple streamed down your cheeks "Rest darling-" your voice cracked. You removed your hand from his-his brows furrowing until he felt you shift- moving it to wrap around his shoulders to pull the swordsman into an embrace. Your lips pressed themselves to his forehead and the hand that had been desperately gripping your shirt fell limp to the floor
Pressing an index and middle finger to his neck to reaffirm yourself
When your fingertips didn't detect his pulse anymore, you let a loud cry ripple through your vocal cords. No longer being able to hold back. You broke down, clutching your dead lover in your arms. Clinging to his shoulders and pressing his head to your chest. Your poor twisting chest that roared sorrow. Your heart hammering against your rib cage like a caged beast desperately trying to keep you alive
Though that's the least thing you desired in the moment. Your loud cries signaled your comrades to your location. They all gathered around the pair of your. Grief and pity hanging heavy in the air
Some stories don't have happy endings, yours is one of them
