Edward VI, meanwhile, was growing up fast and excelled at riding, running and shooting, despite increasing short-sightedness. Consistently striving to emulate Henry VIII, he was becoming more and more like his father. Hands on his hips, he would imitate Henry’s straddling pose, and emit ‘thunderous oaths’ in his high, imperious voice. By calculated displays of wrath and coldness, he sought to make men fear him as they had his father. By now a fanatical Protestant, he was fond of lecturing those around him in the articles of his faith, a role which sat oddly with his youth. His councilors and courtiers were already in awe of him. ‘He will be the wonder and terror of the world if he lives,’ declared Bishop Hooper that year.

On this day in history…
12 October 1537: Edward VI is born.
On 9 October 1537, Queen Jane Seymour, Henry VIII’s third wife, went into labor. Her pregnancy had gone smoothly, and therefore everyone expected an easy delivery. By 11 October, however, the queen was still in labor and the entire city of London was asked to pray for her life and that of her unborn child. After two days and three nights in labor, Jane finally gave birth to the king’s longed-for son and heir on 12 October. Although rumors later arose that Jane had suffered a caesarean so that the child could be saved, the fact that she did survive the initial birth is conclusive evidence that this is not true. For Henry VIII, the birth of a son was the culmination of over a decade’s efforts. The entire country celebrated the prince’s arrival - Te Deums were sung in London, cannons were shot from the Tower, and bonfires were lit in the streets. The prince was named Edward, after his great-grandfather, Edward IV, and he was christened on 15 October. After the christening ceremony, the baby was given back to his mother, whose place as queen was finally solidified - a feat neither of her predecessors had achieved. Jane’s triumph was short-lived, however, for she died on 24 October from complications with the delivery - probably from puerperal fever due to infection. Although Henry was devastated by the loss of his wife, he cherished his only son and immediately set up a royal household for the infant prince. Stories that Edward was a sickly boy are unsubstantiated, and several contemporaries commented on the prince’s health and vigor. At the age of six, he began his formal education, which included theology, languages, philosophy, history, music, and science. By all accounts, Edward was a brilliant student. Because of his humanist education and role models such as his stepmother, Catherine Parr, and maternal uncle, Edward Seymour, Prince Edward adopted strongly Protestant beliefs. When he came to the throne in 1547 at the age of nine, he and his uncle (who became Lord Protector of England) finally made England a firmly Protestant country.

In discussion of the bill, members of Parliament raised no objection to this dual status of Elizabeth as illegitimate heir, and the result, as Commendone reported, was that Mary was proclaimed 'the legitimate and true successor...and consequently all other women of Henry concubines and not wives, and their offspring bastards.' In her Queen's Title Act, Mary [...] [took] advantage of a public opportunity to settle old scores against those who had harmed her family.

♔ The Children of Henry VIII | Mary I, Elizabeth I & Edward VI.
“Although King Henry VIII of England married six times, only his first three wives bore him children, and of a probable total of eleven pregnancies between them, produced only three surviving children. The fact that these royal heirs were born to different mothers would have a direct bearing on the history of England for several decades, for old grudges and jealousies and disagreements over religion remained lively in the hearts of these siblings until death divided them.”
great now you made me cry
People should make more doomed by narratives siblings relationship.
Like with lovers you can just sever it and not have it related to you ever again but with siblings how could you?
You grow up with them you raise them or they raised you you both know how unforgiving the world is to both of you? You would die for them but will hate them for doing the same and yet none of you would regret it and both of you know it. They could be the person you loath the most and miss the most cause you still remember how they sneaked a candy into your hands. You can sever the tie but you can never look away at what you've lost, at whom you've lost because fate doesn't allow you to be together, eating dinners in quiet peace, if only there's another life, another time, where i can make you another plate of pancakes i would im sorry im sorry im sorry —
