summary: joshua wakes up to quite the commotion, and you’re not by his side.

A resounding bang that reverbrates through the house and a series of hisses following that is what rudely wakes Joshua from his peaceful slumber.

Groaning, Joshua rolls over and tries to drape his arm over your figure, only to be met with nothing. His eyes shoot open to see your side of the bed empty, and he sighs. Joshua hates waking up without you beside him. Joshua strains to listen for any more sounds outside, and briefly hears his daughters’ harmonious giggles. He sighs again and gets up to investigate the noise, a smile creeping up his face.

“You’re supposed to put the syrup first!” he hears the older twin, Jiyoon, as her loud complaint booms through the kitchen.

“It doesn’t matter! I want to put the blueberries first!” Jihyo whines back with the same energy, and Joshua chuckles, the kitchen now in full view.

In front of him are his two daughters struggling to prepare a plate of what Joshua can only assume to be pancakes from their earlier conversation. Towering behind them is a very amused you, who make no move to quell the possible argument breaking out between your twin daughters.

“It doesn’t matter what you want, you idiot! These pancakes are for daddy!” Jiyoon tells her sister off in an annoyed tone, and Joshua can’t help but feel his heart swell at how they’re taking this so seriously.

“Hmph! Do whatever you want, then!” Jihyo huffs and turns around, meeting eyes with her father.

“Daddy!” Jihyo screams, running into her father’s open arms. Joshua grins widely at his daughter, picking her up and spinning her around. “Hey, you.”

Jiyoon notices her father, too, and bolts out of the kitchen to wrap her arms around his leg. “Daddy! You’re supposed to be sleeping…”

“Sorry, sweetheart, Daddy decided to wake up earlier today,” Joshua smiles, picking Jiyoon up with his free arm. “what were you guys making?”

“It’s a surprise,” Jihyo makes a big gesture with her hands, and Joshua beams at her in endearment.

“Daddy, can you go back to sleep? We want to surprise you,” Jiyoon tugs at her father’s shirt, making her best puppy eyes at him.

Joshua chuckles in disbelief and turns to you, who shrugs with the most lovesick expression written on your face.

“Okay, girls, whatever you say,” Joshua sighs, gently putting the girls back down before going back into your shared bedroom, not missing the way his girls scrambled into the kitchen to continue preparing the ‘surprise’.

Joshua lies on your side of the bed and starts scrolling through his phone, and the door opens soon after. In pops Jiyoon and Jihyo, both holding a plate of pancakes together. The pancakes in question are look too good to have been made by a pair of four-year-olds, but Joshua pushes the observation to the back of his mind. It’s drizzled with maple syrup and littered with blueberries just how Joshua likes it, and his heart swells with pride.

“Happy fathers’ day, Daddy!” Jihyo and Jiyoon exclaim in unison, presenting the pancakes to Joshua. His expression turns soft at the sight of his two daughter standing in front of him, clearly nervous to see their father’s reaction towards the surprise.

“Thank you, my little princesses, I’ll enjoy the meal well,” Joshua chuckles, patting both of their heads before taking the plate of pancakes from them. The girls squeal in satisfaction at Joshua’s reaction.

“Okay, girls, it’s time for you to take a shower now,” the girls turn around at your familiar voice to see you leaning against the doorframe with the biggest smile on your face, and they scramble out of your bedroom after giving you and Joshua a kiss on the cheek, one twin in charge of one cheek.

“Did they plan this on their own?” Joshua asks as you sit down beside him on the bed, taking in your exhausted features with a slight frown on his face. “What time did you wake up for this? You had a long day at work yesterday,”

You smile softly, tucking Joshua’s hair behind his ear. “It’s okay, I wanted to do it. The girls got the idea from Jeonghan and bugged me to help them with it last night.”

“Jeonghan, huh?” Joshua cocks an eyebrow in amusement, proceeding to dig into the pancakes.

“He’s their favourite uncle, for sure,” you chuckle, “so, are the pancakes good?”

“It’s really good,” Joshua says with food stuffed in his mouth, and it takes you a while to understand what he said. Smiling brightly once you realised what he said, you poke his cheek adoringly.

“Of course, babe,” you pinch his cheek softly, “don’t tell the girls I told you this, but they only decorated the pancake with syrup and blueberries.”

Joshua simply chuckles. “Well, I’m incredibly touched that the women of my life pulled this together for me.”

You beam at him, planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

“Happy fathers’ day, baby.”

btw, his hugs must be the best (silently crying in the corner)

they make you feel so safe and fluffy 

would sometimes tease you for your clinginess, but then you can just say “no cuddles tonight” and he’ll be apologizing on his knees

morning and goodnight kisses are mandatory, and there is a big chance he’ll get pouty and sulky if he doesn’t get one

scrunches his nose and pretends to think about it for a long time. says no with a deadpan face but he's already leaning over to peck you lightly on the lips. is still pretending like it's a chore for him, but you're smiling so happily and he can't hide the pinkness of his ears and the smile tugging at his lips from seeing you so happy too

clicks his tongue all offended like "wdym have i not been showering you in affection enough???" but is also just so willing to take your hand and tug you closer to kiss you. the type to smile against your lips as he pulls away and then kisses you one more time for good measure, before going back to whatever he was doing before like nothing happened

does that annoying thing where he wiggles his eyebrows all teasingly when you ask for a kiss, before he laughs and throws an arm around your shoulders, kissing you on the cheek. and then on the nose. and then on the mouth. he's holding it over your head for at least a week tho bc you asking for kisses defo inflated his ego so much

You get take out and make sure to get extra rice for Jihoon before stopping by a bakery nearby to get dessert as well. You rush back to your apartment, hoping that Jihoon will be awake when you get back.

Once inside you set all of your goodies onto the counter. You don’t see Jihoon in the living room and when you peek your head into his studio room you don’t see him either, leaving only one other room he could be in.

When you walk into the bedroom you see Jihoon lazing on the bed, scrolling through his phone. An anime is playing on the TV in the background, but from the looks of it Jihoon is still half asleep and not paying any mind to it at all.

He’s drowning in his favorite blue hoodie with the hood pulled up around his head and it makes you smile. You love that hoodie, having stolen it from him too many times to count. He looks so cozy and adorable and you don't hesitate to move over to the bed and crawl beside him. You snuggle into his side, the soft fabric of the sweatshirt against your face. You tell it’s been recently washed by the way it smells fresh.

Jihoon doesn’t hesitate to drop his phone and wrap his arms around you, pressing a kiss to your temple. “Hi jagiya."

“Hi Hoonie." You allow yourself to bask in his love for a moment, enjoying how soft and sweet your boyfriend is in this moment. "I brought home lunch, if you want to have that. Or we can reheat it later and go straight to dessert.”

“The ladder for sure.”

Your fingers trace over the fabric of Jihoon’s hoodie, enjoying the plush feeling under the pads of your fingertips. You’re like 90% sure that this hoodie has been in Jihoon’s life longer than you have and over time it has worn down with all the memories Jihoon has experienced. It’s one of the reasons why you like wearing it so much. Not only does it smell like your boyfriend but it feels like him too, all of his love having been woven in with the fabric.

It takes great effort for you to pull away from your boyfriend so you two can go eat the cakes you bought. Jihoon crawls out of bed, stretching his limbs after he does. As he does that you move over to your closet and change out of your work clothes. You throw on a pair of pajama pants and a hoodie of your own before trailing behind Jihoon into the kitchen.

You drape yourself over Jihoon’s shoulders, burying your face into his hoodie covered neck. You think about how the hoodie has gotten both you and Jihoon through long nights of Jihoon at the studio. You two tend to trade sweatshirts off, getting one of them covered in your scent and then stealing the one Jihoon has been wearing to start the process all over again. You and Jihoon both favor the blue hoodie though.

you were taking a break from training and sat on one of the couches in the living room. with your phone in hand, you were scrolling through social media and saw some posts about other e-sports teams appear on your screen; most of them announcing which teams were going to appear at a competition scheduled for next week in tokyo.

"oh my god! y/n! did you hear?" dino frantically exclaimed. you looked over and saw him make a dash towards you from his desk. "look at this!" he instructed while shoving his phone screen into your view.

you grabbed his phone and looked at what he had on his screen: an online article with the title "#1 in south korea, team fts, announces their participation in the summer sundown festival happening in tokyo, japan next week as a last minute entry."

you sighed, "i'm gonna kill him," you immediately said, staring at dino's phone screen in disbelief. you started scrolling through the article, reading the most important parts before sending the article to your phone.

"did he not tell you?" dino asked, sinking into the couch cushion next to you.

"no, he didn't," you sighed again. "you wanna tell joshua, or should i?" you asked dino as you handed his phone back to him.

"if you wanna call jeonghan, i can go tell coach," dino replied. you nodded in agreement.

both of you got up from the couch and walked in separate directions. dino headed to your coach, who was with the rest of your team while you went onto the balcony of the house you lived in. you closed the door behind you and called jeonghan.

once he answered, you heard him immediately chuckle, "i was wondering when you were gonna call me. this was sooner than i expected."

"i just saw the article. dino just showed it to me," you replied, "what happened to the competition here?" you asked him, crossing one arm across your torso.

"the organizers are horrible. we're playing against people in the league below us, so it's clearly rigged," he explained before sighing, "it's kind of a mess though. we'll be training longer cause of the teams in tokyo."

"hey, jeonghan hyung, come on."

"i'll be downstairs in a minute. start talking with the others about the new thing," jeonghan said to the person that just called for him. it sounded like the8, but you weren’t sure.

"who was that?" you asked.

"oh, it was the8,” he confirmed. “hey, call me when you're done. i gotta go," he said to you.

you hummed in response, "i will.”

"love you."

"you wish i loved you."

"hey, don't do this—"

you hung up, laughing at what you did before receiving a text message from jeonghan, who was upset. you texted him back before going inside.

"y/n, is it true?" jun asked you as you closed the door behind you.

you nodded, "yea, just confirmed it with him."

mingyu groaned and sat back in his chair, "you have got to be kidding me."

"tonight, you guys need to go through their battles from the last competition," joshua said to everyone else. "we'll need to start planning tomorrow morning. let's just go through what we have right now."

"sounds good," vernon spoke up, putting his headphones on.

you walked to your seat that was next to dino's before loading the game up on your computer screen.

days later and you were in japan. you spent the first day walking around and exploring since the day after was the day of the gaming festival.

"woah, this place is nice," dino said as you guys were taken to your team's designated waiting room.

as everyone set their things down, you opened a bottle of water and started drinking from it.

"please let a staff member know if you need anything," the staff member who was with you said before leaving the room, closing the door behind them.

"who's playing the first round again?" mingyu asked before vernon handed him his phone. "oh, thanks."

"i'm gonna grab some more waters for us," you said to everyone.

"don't take too long. we need to watch all of the matches," jun said to you.

"i won't. it'll only take a second," you replied and set your own water down. you left the waiting room and went down the hall to find an area with snacks and drinks.

"do you need something?" a staff member asked you when they noticed you.

"just some waters, please," you requested. "can i just get a whole case actually?" you asked.

they nodded, "of course."

another staff member grabbed a case of water and handed it to you.

"thank you," you replied and managed to pick the case up. you started walking back to the waiting room and saw familiar faces being guided to their waiting room.

"y/n!" dk immediately yelled as he noticed you first.

"oh, hi," you greeted as jeonghan approached you.

"need some help?" he asked you.

"no."

"you do? okay," he said and took the case of water from your hands.

"jeonghan, we need to go," s.coups said to him.

"jeonghan, i'm fine," you said and tried to take the case from him.

"i'll be back in a second," jeonghan said to them before walking away from his team.

you sighed and looked at their captain, "sorry."

s.coups laughed, "it's fine. see you later.”

"see you later," you smiled before following jeonghan down the hall. "yoon jeonghan, you're going the wrong way."

you caught up to him as he looked at you, "can we take a detour so i can be with you longer? i haven't gotten to see you in like two weeks."

you rolled your eyes, "no. i have battles to watch, and you have a team to coach," you said to him and started walking in the direction to the waiting room. once you got there, you opened the door for jeonghan, "put it on the table and leave."

"you're so mean to your boyfriend," jeonghan pouted as he did what was instructed. the guys looked at him as he walked in.

"oh, jeonghan. nice to see you," joshua greeted. the two coaches greeted each other with a handshake.

"y/n, isn't there a rule about fraternizing with the enemy at competitions?" mingyu asked you.

"you're just saying that cause he's here," you replied before grabbing jeonghan and pushing him out of the room. "bye."

"wanna get dinner later?" jeonghan asked as he stood in the hallway, holding the door open despite you trying to close it.

"maybe. bye," you said and closed the door on him before locking it.

"you know, jeonghan's right. you are being mean to him," jun said to you.

"can we not? we have a competition to win," you said to your captain and crossed your arms.

"that battle was way too long," vernon complained as you and your team walked back into the waiting room. you had just won against one of the teams from japan.

"seriously," mingyu said and grabbed a bag of chips from the table.

"y/n, is your hand okay?" jun asked you as you grabbed your brace for your wrist from your backpack.

"it's fine. i just tweaked it during the last raid," you said and took your jacket off to cool off. you put the brace on and sat down next to dino on a couch.

"it's already bothering you? will you be okay for the rest of the competition? we have three more battles for sure and two more if we make it all the way to the finals," dino asked in concern.

"i have to be fine. who else are we gonna get to substitute for me?" you replied.

"i mean, there was that time i tried playing as two people."

"dino, you died in an instant."

"and here we have it. the long awaited battle between south korea's fts and south korea's sector:17. both of them are strong teams within the e-sports community. don't you agree, hoshi?" one of the commentators spoke.

"i definitely agree with you on that, seungkwan. both of these teams are powerful within the community. fts is definitely the top team in this community, so it'll be interesting to see how sector:17 overcomes this later today," the other commenter said. "let's look at the stats of both teams and see what could happen in this final battle."

"hoshi knows stuff about the game?" vernon questioned as he sat down with a snack in his hand.

"guess woozi finally taught him some stuff," you replied while massaging your wrist.

"hey, you guys feel good?" joshua asked as he walked into the room. "here's coffee," he said, handing you a cup.

"thanks," you replied, "do you think they're going to use that new strategy today?" you asked.

"probably. they probably want to wear us out with it for the first part," vernon replied.

"hey, vernon, go wake up everyone else. they need to eat before we leave," joshua instructed. vernon nodded and got up while joshua took his spot on the couch next to you. "have you talked to jeonghan?" he asked you.

"not really. didn't want to get in trouble with the league," you replied, "just that date we went on the other night."

"according to s.coups, he's been more irritating," joshua mentioned, "you should see him before the competition starts."

you shrugged, "maybe. i just don't want to get distracted either."

"understandable," joshua replied to you, "but you know how he gets, which means all of them are probably annoyed at him for sulking."

"they'll get over it. they always do," you replied and looked over when you heard someone walk into the room. "good morning, sleeping beauty," you said to mingyu as he headed to the table.

"i'm handsome, thank you," mingyu sarcastically replied as he grabbed a coffee cup off of the table. "thanks, shua."

"no problem," joshua replied. "eat a bit more. don't want to get too hungry later," he said to you before getting up and heading into the hall, "guys! wake up!"

a few hours later, and you're about to leave for the last battle between your team and fts. you took your brace off your wrist and put it back in your backpack.

"you good, y/n?" jun asked you. you nodded and walked over to everyone, who were waiting by the door. "let's go," he said and dino opened the door for everyone.

a staff member guided all of you to the entrance to the stage. you waited until someone instructed you to go on stage.

you walked onto the stage following jun; the others following behind you. fans were cheering everywhere from the audience. you walked to where the computers were set up, seeing the game loaded up on screen. you sat down in your seat and got ready to play.

"okay, let's do this!" mingyu yelled into his microphone.

"hey! not too loud. you're gonna blow my ears out, and then i won't be able to use these headphones anymore," dino whined at your teammate.

you looked over to your side and saw the other team getting ready. wonwoo looked over at you, as if he sensed you looking at him. he looked back at jeonghan, who also looked over at you. he gave you a smile, and you gave him a smile back before looking at the computer screen.

"alright guys," joshua said to all of you, "let's use the new strategy for the first round."

"got it."

"okay."

after two matches, the score was one-to-one. you were in the last match, waiting to get resurrected after dying to one of woozi's attack.

"okay, push through!" jun yelled.

"mingyu, come here," vernon instructed.

mingyu groaned, "shit. i died," he huffed out. "y/n, can you cover him?" he asked you.

"hang on, five more seconds and i'll follow," you said as you watched the screen.

"i got one down!" dino exclaimed.

"okay, i'm back," you announced to your team, "i'm coming to you, vernon. hold off if you can."

"i'm almost out of health," vernon mentioned.

"dino, i'm coming to you. use your shield," jun instructed.

"you got it."

you continued moving and reached vernon, who had barely any health left. you killed a few monsters that were on the screen and then you saw s.coups's character appear on the screen.

"shoot, i don't know where the8 went," vernon mentioned. "mingyu, are you back?" he asked as you started attacking s.coups's character.

"yep, i am. coming towards you," mingyu replied.

"all of them are by us. y/n, come here," jun said and you started moving again. you found jun and dino's characters and started attacking the8 and dk with dino while jun fought woozi.

"need backup?" vernon asked.

"we're fine. stay there," jun immediately replied. "come on...yes! okay, woozi's down."

"the8's down," dino said, "so is dk."

"s.coups and wonwoo are retreating. should we follow?" you asked, looking at the map.

"yea, keep going. mingyu, vernon, push through and get to us," jun instructed.

"we're coming," mingyu said.

you followed jun with dino behind, killing any monsters that appeared on screen. eventually, you reached the base and started attacking s.coups and wonwoo while dino was dealing with the base. a few seconds later, and mingyu joined you and jun. vernon helped dino with the base.

"they're resurrecting in twenty seconds," dino mentioned while attacking the base as quickly as possible.

"come on, come on. use your attack, y/n. our health is fine," jun instructed you. you used your character's special attack, which lowered everyone's health around you. then, you started hitting wonwoo's character and killed him quickly since his health was quite low.

"ten, nine, eight..." you started counting off while attacking s.coups, "seven, six, five, four-"

"we destroyed it!" dino yelled out.

"okay, finish all of them off," jun instructed right as mingyu killed s.coups.

the rest of the characters came back to life and you started attacking dk. eventually, wonwoo's character came back as well and your team killed off all of them.

"yes!"

the crowd had been cheering the whole time but you didn’t notice how loud they were until your team won. you got up from your chair and hugged dino, who was the closest to you before hugging everyone else.

you and your team started doing your victory ritual of jumping in a circle and singing a song. joshua joined in after being backstage since the beginning of the match.

after celebrating, your team went to the center of the stage where the other team was.

"you guys did good," s.coups said to jun.

"not bad yourself," jun replied.

"hey, wonwoo, let's play together some time," mingyu said to wonwoo.

"oh sure. that'd be great," wonwoo said to mingyu.

"y/n! you did great!" dk said to you.

"yea, seriously. during the second round? that was crazy," woozi said to you.

"i'm glad we won that round. i was scared there for a bit," you said to them with a laugh.

then, you were pulled away by someone and turned to see jeonghan.

"good job." you felt him kiss your forehead.

"you're just saying that to be nice to me," you said to him while wrapping your arms around him.

"i am nice, unlike you," he said as he put his arms around you, "and don't forget, we won the last competition."

you rolled your eyes, "you're annoying, you know that?"

"i know i am,” he admitted. “congratulations," he said to you before kissing your lips.

confetti continued to fall, the crowd kept cheering, and you felt like the best in the world.

You sound like a broken record since this might be the nth time you've had this realization today. But your boyfriend is very handsome. It has to be his hair - obsidian strands that are long enough to be tied into a half-up ponytail. More than once you've asked Jihoon if you could braid his hair ever since he told you he wanted to grow it out.

He resembles a content cat whenever you start playing with his hair, with sighs coming from him as he lays on your lap. Taking advantage of him looking at his phone, you open the camera app as you get ready to take some photos of him.

"Jihooon," you elongate the vowels, and the only response you get is a hum as he continues looking at his phone. The small upturn of his lips is noticeable though and you love him even more for playing along with your whims. In the three years that you've been together, it's now rare for him to respond to his name, preferring the endearments more.

He laughs then, looking at you with a big grin that never fails to make your heart sing in joy. The perfect pictures are captured and he moves closer to you in the booth, his arm easily sliding around your waist.

when he got home late from work, he wouldn't stop sniffling and sneezing

the tip of his nose was pink, along with his cheeks

and every so often, he'd loudly try to clear his throat before responding to you

you suggested that he take it easy for a bit in case it gets worse, but he brushed it off as seasonal allergies

"ji, babe, you should wash up. i'll prepare some cold medicine and some vitamins for tonight and tomorrow before work."

"thanks. i'll take it, but i don't think i'm sick. it's just that time of the year again," he says, shrugging his shoulders

you knew you couldn't get him to call off of work, so why even bother?

so, instead, you called off of your work so you can follow him around and care for him

you woke up extra early to make him some warm breakfast

you sit on his couch, studying your own thing, but every time you hear him sniffle, you hand him a tissue

you keep tabs on when he needs to take medicine because without you, he'd get so lost in his music and he'd forget to care for himself

you get him to drink lots of water and gatorade to keep him hydrated, keeping him away from his usual colas and sodas

but as he continues working, his head starts to hurt and he can't seem to concentrate or think straight

so he gets up and lazily slugs over to you, laying down on the couch with his head in your lap

he grabs your hand from whatever you were using it for, and he places it on his head quietly

"you okay?" you ask, taking the hint and playing with his hair

"my head hurts," he says quietly. his eyes are closed as he talks to you.

you massage his head gently and enjoy the time you have with a sick jihoon

"maybe we should go home, and when you feel better, you can work on your computer there."

Y/N and Jihoon were two peas in a pod, always finding comfort and happiness in the walls of their home. They were content with each other's company, and most of their dates involved snuggling on the couch, binge-watching their favorite TV shows, and sharing laughs over board games.

Inside the safety of their home, Jihoon would shower Y/N with affection, calling her sweet pet names like "babe" and "puppy." He would wrap his arms around her constantly, making her feel cherished and loved. Y/N adored these moments, feeling secure and cared for in Jihoon's arms.

However, whenever the couple ventured outside, Jihoon's demeanor changed. He became reserved and distant, not displaying the same level of affection as he did at home. It left many people around them assuming they were just friends. Y/N didn't mind too much; she wasn't a big fan of public displays of affection either, so she understood Jihoon's perspective.

so i imagined some scenarios where he'd sweetly say, "i was wondering where you were"

imagine you had a date planned to hang out with woozi outside of your houses or his studio for once

you're dressed up and have nice makeup on, but while getting ready, you realized way more time has passed than you thought

so now you're panicking in the taxi when you realized you forgot your phone!

so now you're not only running late but you have no way of updating him

so when you get there a bit late, almost out of breath as youre directed to your reserved table

he looks up from his phone and smiles at you

"i was worried. i was wondering where you were."

"i'm so sorry! i didn't realize how much time passed, and i forgot my phone at home."

"it's fine. you're here now. don't worry about it, okay?"

"tell me i at least look good after all the time i unknowingly spent on myself."

from the time you moved in together, you never knew when jihoon was coming home or even if he was. most of the time you were asleep when he did come home but on the off chance you were awake, he usually comes in without making a sound to make sure not to wake you but you had to get used to him just walking into a room unannounced. by now you weren’t even phased by jihoon just walking into a room.

like tonight.

it was almost 3 am and you were laying in bed, scrolling through tiktok to occupy your wandering mind when jihoon came in quietly and collapsed on to the bed. he laid there for a moment before moving to rest his head on your stomach and reaching a hand up to grab your free hand and play with it.

“why are you still up?” he mumbled against you.

you shrugged, still looking at your phone, “i just couldn’t sleep.”

jihoon hummed in response and turned his head to relax on top of you. the room fell silent again. the day had been long for jihoon and the stress of the new comeback had been getting to him. in the past he would have just pushed through and pretend the pressure wasn’t there just to complete the project. that was before he met you. the feeling he gets when he’s around you is damn near euphoric. he’s never felt this way with another person before so now when he feels worried or stressed or angry or anything, he knows he just needs more of you to get back to normal.

for him, just being in your presence is enough so he doesn’t even mind that you’re on your phone, the two of you not giving the other their direct and full attention. existing with each other is just what he needs. jihoon can already feel himself regulate as he lays on top of you, your legs surrounding his sides, and his fingers weaving in and out of yours.

after several minutes of comfortable silence, jihoon moves his head up again to look at you, his chin resting against your torso.

“i love you.”

you pause your video, looking down at your boyfriend and smile warmly, “i love you, too, ji.”

his cheeks glow pink and he returns his head to his previous position to try and hide it. of course you noticed and lay your phone on your chest to use that hand to rub a hand through his hair affectionately.

It's a quiet day.

With nothing better to do, you're lying on the couch in your boyfriend's studio, head on the armrest, watching him upside down as he hums and works on his latest composition.

Jihoon's face is illuminated by the light of the screen, flashes of colours making his cheeks and eyes glow pink or blue or red depending on the things he clicks. You're not really sure how it works. Jihoon, and his ability to compose, basically makes him a god in your eyes.

From your position on the couch, you can't really see him that well, but whenever he makes small noises of contentment you feel your own lips tug upwards, face warming.

"Jihoon?"

"Hm?"

"You're so pretty," you say, averting your eyes away, from him, shy, even though he can't see you. "Like, really pretty."

Jihoon chuckles. "Thank you."

"You're the prettiest person in the world," you carry on, insistent on getting Jihoon to realise how beautiful he is. "Your smile is pretty. Your eyes are pretty. When you do that thing where you laugh really hard and your mouth goes wide and your eyebrows go up and your eyes scrunch up, it's so pretty. You're pretty all over, you know?"

Jihoon doesn't say anything, but you're barrelling on anyways, hands gesturing as you ramble.

"And your voice is simply the prettiest," you say dazedly, smiling. "When you're speaking, when you're singing, whenever. It's just… your voice is like a pink river, gurgling and bubbling and sparkling with life and magic. It's so beautiful."

You sigh, clasping your hands together, crossing your ankles over the other armrest of the couch, eyes still fixed on the ceiling. "You're pretty everywhere, Jihoon, and sometimes I don't think you realise it. But you are, and I love you so much, for everything you do and all that you are."

Silence rings through the studio. There's no more clacking of keyboards. Jihoon doesn't even seem to breathe.

"Jihoon?" You look up, but the angle is still awkward and you still can't see him properly. "Jagiya? Wait, are you crying?" You sit up properly, and Jihoon has his face buried into his arm over his keyboard.

"God, Y/N," he sighs, sounding exasperated, but when he looks up at you, his eyes are bright. Even in the weird lighting of the studio, you can tell his ears are red.

"What? What did I do?"

Jihoon stands up, walking over to the couch, and he leans over you, cradling your face in his hands. He's smiling, that slight smile that makes him look so, so beautiful. "Love me too goddamn much, that's what."

And then he leans forward to capture your lips in a kiss.

you and lee heeseung has been dating for a total of five months, and throughout those months you can confidently say that you were the happiest. he was the perfect boyfriend, his family loved you and so did yours.

today, heeseung promised he would take you on a date after his basketball practice despite your protests on how he should be resting instead. you wouldn't have agreed if it weren't for the fact that he had shot you with his pleading big doe eyes that never fails to make you agree on whatever he asks for.

entering quietly out of habit, you were about to approach your boyfriend when you overheard his teammates talking to him.

"don't tell me you're still with her?" asked one of boys, an amused smile on his face. heeseung only raised a brow.

"what? you won the bet, you can dump her now. you're ruining our image you know? plus she's a total nerd and loser, you're much better with someone like yunhee." and with only just a few words, you felt your world crashing down.

right, who would date someone like you? you always found it weird, that heeseung just approached you one day in your biology class with the cheekiest smile on his face. the fact that he wouldn't leave you alone until you've agreed to go on a date with him. it all made sense now, why the popular basketball captain suddenly gained interest on the school's "biggest nerd."

"speaking of.." another guy spoke, nodding towards you with a cheeky smile. heeseung turned around only to be met with your glassy eyes.

you didn't move, wanting to hear him defend you. wanting to tell his teammates that you weren't a bet and he actually liked you throughout the months you two have been dating.

you go back to the papers scattered on your table. the silence in your room was disturbed by sudden noises in your phone, turning to look, you see that jay hasn't ended the call.

picking your phone up with a smile, you were about to call out for him but a voice stopped you.

"i can't believe you've gone this far dude." you recognized the slightly muffled voice, it was a friend of jongseong's.

"what do you mean?" your boyfriend grumbled. the audio was muffled, you figured he was moving and the phone was in his pocket.

"you're still dating her!" the voice exclaimed, as if amused. "seriously, i didn't think you'd take that bet seriously. fine you win, i'll clean your car for a month. but you've gotta cut it out, you're starting to disgust me." the boy laughed.

before you could hear what your boyfriend would say, you ended the call. your hand was trembling and tears were falling from your eyes unconsciously.

Furrowing your brows, you stare at the note as your breathing grew heavy. It was obvious that the paper was old, it had folds and it was only stuck on your locker with a washi tape.

"what are you doing l/n? go on, cast your vote." a mocking voice said from beside you followed by a bunch of laughter. "personally, i thought he'd last a day. i guess i'll vote for five months then." then the hand went and tallied on the five months category.

"what's going on here?" upon hearing your boyfriend's voice, you fled away immediately, not wanting to face him. everytime something good happens in your life, it's always ripped away from you. jake was just like them, you were just a toy for their own entertainment.

"i'm sorry baby, i really am busy with practice tomorrow." your boyfriend, sunghoon, says in genuine sorry. it was the fifth time you have asked him to meet your parents, who also by the way was so desperate to meet the boy you've been dating for seven months now.

every time you ask him, he's always busy. either with practice, a project, a family matter, or whatever excuse he can come up with. but you always brush it off, knowing he means well and he really is busy as he's an athlete student.

"i'll meet them next week, okay? i promise." that's also the same thing he says everytime too, and once again, you only nod in response.

you and sunghoon met in a physics class. he was clutching his head with a frown on his face as he desperately tried to understand what the professor was going on about.

you remember clearly the way he approached you in the library, a physics book on his left hand as his right scratched his nape. "can.. i noticed- uh, can you help me with this topic?"

that was where your relationship started. you tutored him and helped him improve his grade. when he got an A on the finals, he kissed you on the lips in glee. he was taken aback by his own actions but nevertheless asked you out after.

coming home drunk after a girls night out, your boyfriend eunseok had stayed up waiting for you patiently, killing time by watching some boring documentary show and eating the last of your snacks. his eyes would be half-lidded, trying so hard to stay awake. you sent him an almost unreadable text 10 minutes ago, which he sat deciphering for a while. he came to the conclusion that “eunse son i’m gowon to me hole soon” meant that you were on your way back to your shared apartment, and he braced himself for what was in store for him.

eunseok didn’t mind you going out and drinking with your girl friends, actually he was glad you and him were both able to occasionally have fun without each other, not like the crazy clingy couples who couldn’t stay apart for longer than 2 minutes. throughout the whole night you sent him cute texts and selfies, keeping him up to date with how many shots you’ve gulped down or how many times the club played an awful remix. every time he saw a notification with your name attached he couldn’t help but smile and shake his head in disbelief, he missed you even knowing that you had only been gone for a few hours. maybe he was more similar to the crazy clingy couples than he thought.

he found it difficult to focus on the tv in front of him as his mind wandered to you, wondering when you would be home. that was when he heard keys rattling at the entrance. pushing himself off the couch, he strode towards the sound and with one swift motion he opened the door. to his contentment he was met with a flushed, drunken face smiling back at him.

“i’m so sorry it’s so late, i know”, you slurred, heels in your hands and a faint gleam of sweat on your neck. he takes in your candid beauty, any other person would look a mess, drunk at 3am, hair slightly untidy and makeup smudged, but to eunseok you looked like you’d just stumbled off the runway. how someone could look so beautiful, he had no idea. he hoped his eyes didn’t show just how much you affected him, but you could tell by the pure glint in his eyes and the newfound pink tint creeping up his neck that he was in fact happy to see you.

you staggered inside, placing a steady hand on eunseoks chest to stable yourself as you dropped your shoes on the floor. he immediately felt your warmth, the slightest touch making him burn inside. god, he thought to himself, you’ve been dating for over a year and he still gets this pathetic rush of weakness every time you’re this close to him.

he clears his throat and speaks, “it’s okay. did you have fun?” placing a hand on your back, he leads you towards your bedroom. you sigh noisily and fill him in on the gossip of the night, how your friend broke up with her ex and made out with a random before breaking down in the girls toilets, the usual girly drama. he listened attentively, nodding his head and humming as he sat you down on the bed and unloaded your small pink bag, charging your phone and setting down your lipglosses and keys. “anyone hit on you?” he asks, half jokingly but also genuinely curious. eunseok doesn’t easily get jealous, but his protectiveness meter tended to be off the charts, especially when you were drunk and out in the city.

your laugh comes delayed, which he finds cute, the heat in his neck spreading to his cheeks when you lean into him and tell him, “i would never even let anyone try”. your twinkling eyes look up at him and he feels his heart skip a beat, a sense of pride beaming through his chest at the thought of you turning down all the desperate men who thought they may have a chance with his angel. he sweeps a piece of hair out of your face and kisses your forehead, your eyes gently closing as he keeps his cheek hugged against you. “i’m glad to hear that”, he whispers into your hair, gently stroking your head with his thumb. despite your drunken state, you feel his heart beat faster than usual against you, and a love-drunk smile spreads across your face. moments like this made you feel so lucky. your eunseok was the sweetest, even when you were a mess.

after a few moments of you pressed against eunseoks chest, he gets up to fetch you a glass of water for the night. you whine and he promises you he’ll be back in a second. when he returns you’re stood with your back facing him. “please, could you unzip this for me?” you ask, gathering your hair to clear the space of your zipper, the back of your neck becoming prettily exposed. there it was again, that rush of weakness eunseok felt run through his whole body. he sets the water down and walks over to you, his hands suddenly feeling frailer than ever. he places one hand on your waist so to stop you from swaying, and his other hand slowly pulls down your zipper. he feels you shiver a bit under his touch, maybe it was the chilly 3am air or eunseoks hand gripped tightly on your waist that made your body react that way. you always felt dizzy with his hands on you, paired with a whole night of alcohol, you felt especially dazed.

eunseok stares at the naked expanse of your spine as the zipper finishes just above your hips. you took one hand to hold up the front of your dress, making sure the fabric doesn’t slip down as you innocently shot eunseok a look over your shoulder. “turn around please”, you request shyly and without hesitation he turns to face the wall, his heart doing a few more jumping jacks. he hears the sound of draws opening along with clothes dropping and unfolding. you let out a final heavy sigh, and brightly declare you’re ready. eunseok slowly spins around to face you again, this time being met with your figure drowned in one of his large t-shirts.

“i’m too hot, i can’t wear any pants”, you start apologising but he shushes you with a soft kiss to your cheek, taking your hand in his and leading you to the cramped washroom. you stand incredibly close to him, still losing balance and bumping into his chest and the cabinet. he laughs as he squeezes some toothpaste onto your toothbrush, handing it to you before doing the same for himself. his hands find your waist again and hold you still, both of you brushing awkwardly, eunseok due to the increased tiredness and you due to drunkenness. he occasionally wipes the corners of your mouth, your eyes creasing with adoration, you loved the little ways he showed he cared. your eyes stay locked to one another, both of you giggling dreamily before bending down to spit into the washroom sink.

you both find your way back to your bed, hand in hand, and eunseok takes the liberty of tucking you in. you wait for him to join you, and when he does you snuggle deeply into his chest, your hand resting on his shoulder while your leg drapes over his body. you groan happily, mumbling thank you’s and i love you’s into him. every time eunseok feels this way, so overwhelmed with love and endearment, he truly thinks there is no chance this feeling will be topped. yet you always prove him wrong, and he lays there, his heart swelling like never before.

“i love you too,” he whispers. the heat from his cheeks and your tender touch keeps him warm for the night. he wouldn’t have it any other way.
