So Jack definitely watches Sam through his binoculars more than anyone else in Shades of Grey.
It’s not because he doubts her, I’m sure. He knows she has more integrity than anyone.
So... does he just miss her? Regret hurting her?
My shippy heart loves this episode for everything that’s not blatant about it.
I never realised the parallels with Desperate Measures and Abyss before.
Adrian tells Diana he did it for her, so they could be together.
Sam asks Jack to take the symbiote and he does, for her. For them?
Up to the end of Frozen in my SG-1 rewatch.
Couple of thoughts.
1. Did Sam volunteer to ask Jack like most of us assume, or was she volunteered by the others because they knew Jack was more likely to say yes to her than anyone else?
2. The Sam/Jack theme when he agrees to it confirms that he absolutely said yes to the symbiote because of Sam. It wasn’t about the information the Tok’ra said was invaluable but because she said ‘please, Sir.’
3. The image of them carrying him through the gate in the isolation chamber looking so much like a coffin is very much a tragic indicator of what’s to come for Jack.
Okay, but have you ever thought about Solitudes happening in a later season? Like in 4, 5, 6, 7 or even 8 if Jack went off-world?
Just think about the shippiness, the angstiness, the amazingness of it all.
Sam being desperate to save him, frustrated and scared that she's going to lose him on this goddamn ice planet without any hope of getting home.
Jack trying to comfort her but sharing that frustration and the fear that he's going to leave her alone.
Imagine them cuddling up together, knowing it's the first and last time. Knowing the someday and the silent promises they've been making each other for years isn't going to happen.
The sidearm comment, way more loaded than it was in S1. (Pun not really intended but hehehehe)
It's Sam's name Jack says, not Sara’s, his voice full of regret and love and everything he hasn't been free to say.
Then Sam's response, anguished and tearful and utterly heart-breaking. "I'm here, Jack." Because she is there, she's at his side and will stay there till her dying breath, because there's nowhere else she can be, no one else she'd rather be with.
And then they're rescued, but the tension is heightened, the knowledge of just how damn close they both actually came to dying lingering in every glance, every touch...
@starrybouquet Same!
So far, I’m at the “it happened in season eight” stage. After leaving Maybourne, sometime interrupted the gate, Sam and Jack are sent to an actual ice planet (has to be, can’t be earths second stargate unless time travel is involved)...
And then there’s angst and snuggling and shippiness ahoy and she dumps P*** as soon as they make it home because of course she does.
*day dreams*
