Since you liked my Boromir as a Saint wip and I'm still in pain (thought writing, as one does) I will share a portrait of The Lady of Rohan :))

Since You Liked My Boromir As A Saint Wip And I'm Still In Pain (thought Writing, As One Does) I Will

Don't mind my legal name in the right corner. I do have a real life, you know. Don't look me up.

Eowyn, 04.2024

I'm really happy with how this turned out, though the contast is much greater in real life. These are the limitations of traditional art, sadly.

GUYS, this is so silly

But I had a little inspiration moment, and decided to design Eowyn's wedding dress for my fanfiction. It is not supposed to look like the one in the movie.

I first analysed some of the dresses she wore and wrote down some most prominent features.

Btw, I hate my scanner. The colours are wrong (the dress is too bright) and I don't know how to fix this. And I will not render this on my computer, at least not yet. I might actually draw her in this dress later on.

GUYS, This Is So Silly

Now, I have written the consensus on the top, if you can read it. I wanted to include the v-neck, the poofy sleeves and the embroidery. I also took inspiration from some of the fabrics she wore.

I decided against the earthy tones, because this is a wedding dress after all and is supposed to stand out. I then remembered this blue dress she wore, which made me happy, because wearing blue again would not be out of character for her. And the yellow one on Aragorn's coronation, so bright colours are also fair game.

The purple fabric is supposed to look a bit like the one she wore in her mourning dress on the collar. Lilac with gold embroidery.

The veil is one of the pretty flowery ones I've seen so much on Pinterest.

Mind you, I did this in like an hour and a half. The anatomy might not be the greatest, but I needed to get this out of my head.

Also, why not white, you may ask? Well, white as a wedding dress colour became a thing after 1840 and it was a symbol of status. And I decided I didn't care. So I'm making her wear blue. Like the sky.

Tolkientober #6: meals

"Go on. Have a bite."

Faramir stared at the spoon for a second too long before Éowyn huffed in annoyance.

"You are afraid, are you not?"

Embarrassed at being caught, he lowered the spoon and looked at her apologetically.

It was autumn, and they had been sitting in the shade of a large maple tree, its yellow and red leaves celebrating the fruitfulness of the harvests this year. The couple had been exploring the woods of Emyn Arnen and when the sun had gone well past its peak, they had agreed to have a rest and a meal.

To Faramir's surprise, Éowyn had offered to take care of their lunch, though she had not waited for his agreement and had set to work immediately. Not once since they had gotten to know each other in the Houses of Healing had she cooked in his presence.

An hour later, they each had their bowls full of the stew she had made.

Éowyn smiled lightly. "You have heard others talk about my cooking skills and now you fear for your health."

"No, I do not fear for anything," replied he. His denial came too quick and even if she could not read minds like he could, she knew very well the source of his hesitance.

"Go on, then," she urged, gesturing with her hand.

After a long moment, the Steward bravely took a mouthful and swallowed. Then he sat up, his eyes wide in bewilderment.

"You look so taken aback, Faramir," Éowyn said before taking a spoonful herself, "was it not the flavour you expected?"

Not knowing how to reply without offending her, he filled his mouth with a few more bites. Éowyn laughed with her lips pressed together to stop herself from spilling her food.

"I will readily admit that there was a time that I thought myself to be a better cook than I truly was," she slowly said while stirring her stew, "but you must realize that - after my unintented assassination attempt on the Heir of Elendil -"

Faramir chuckled and shook his head, his dark wavy hair bobbing along in the motion.

" - I have been in the extended company of Meriadoc Brandybuck. How could I not be learned in the art of cooking, travelling and recuperating alongside such an avid lover of food?"

"Milady, you have my heartfelt apologies for ever doubting you," said Faramir and he caught her hand in his, a twinkle in his eye. Then he brought it to his lips and kissed it firmly.

She allowed him to dote upon her as she watched him with a soft smile. Then her hand slipped out of his to rest against his cheek.

Shifting closer to him, she frowned. "Faramir."

"Yes, dearest Éowyn?"

"I may have learned how to cook, but I rather enjoy my reputation of being a bad chef."

"Is that so?" He looked at her with his brows raised, curious to hear more.

"Why Faramir, it is a clever sword to wield at court," she explained, feeling all too proud of herself, "if Lord or Lady so-and-so bother me too much with their arrogance or self-importance, all I have to do is invite them over to our residence for a home-cooked meal -"

He quickly put his bowl aside before bursting into a fit of laughter. "And they leave you alone? Is that why Lady Arradel and Lord Gwerion postponed their visit to Ithilien?"

Éowyn tilted her head meaningfully and grinned.

Chapter 3 of A Starling in Rohan is out!! Thanks for all the support so far <3 do ask if you want to be tagged in further chapter updates!

@konartiste hope you enjoy!

"I shall not be entirely happy today, brother, unless you are. I want everyone to feel as I do! Now come, share your worries."

She sank down into the deep velvet cushions in the window alcove, and patted the nearest chair.

Éomer sighed, and relented, knowing she would not give up until he told her what was on his mind. "A messenger arrived yesterday from one of the marshals. Farms across the Eastfold have reported a disease amongst the potato seedlings that renders them completely useless. Éowyn, unless I am provided with a miracle, Rohan will suffer heavier loss of life this coming winter than in the War of the Ring - I am certain of it."

Éowyn went to bite thoughtfully on her thumbnail, caught herself in time, and smoothed over the folds of her dress instead. "A solution will be found, Éomer. I am sure of it."

Éomer was less sure, but he didn't say this aloud. Already he had cast a shadow over the happiest day of his sister's life, and he didn't intend to add to it. "Perhaps, but not today. Today I don't mean to be King of Rohan - only your brother."

Chapter 4 of A Starling in Rohan is out!

I reckon @konartiste inspired me lol. Go read Veiled Hearts if you haven't already!

Imrahil looked over to the King of Rohan. He was turning to face every lord that spoke, acknowledging their empty and sincere words alike with a nod of his head - the picture of kingly grace - but his attention was clearly already gone, his eyes hopeless. The Prince of Dol Amroth looked at his old friend, then at his children - even Amrothos, leaning over his shoulder - all of them had the same anxious expression, like the time they had found a puppy half-drowned on the banks of the Anduin and had begged him to keep it as little children.

Lothíriel especially looked like her mother, a woman Imrahil had never been able to resist. Sweetness and a kind heart masked unwavering resolve and loyalty.

She took hold of his arm. "Surely, Father, there is something we can do."
