this is actually great advice. it’s true that only a handful are ever really remembered throughout history and lauded as exceptional. the vast majority of people are left behind by memory and discarded as ordinary and insignificant. at first, that can feel insulting and hurtful, but it’s that lack of expectations that allows anyone to truly be free to do whatever they like and pursue whatever sordid dreams they have no matter how ugly and clumsy they may be. hans is telling you that you shouldn’t try to fulfill some sort of idiotic standard someone else set that you can’t realistically live up to, you should just put your best damnedest effort to be content with what you can do for yourself. everyone else can fucking choke as far as you’re concerned. you’re living only for you. you’re worthless and it’s because you’re worthless no one will ever see you fail in your struggle to succeed, so what do you have to lose?
