A Visual Guide for Drawing Flutes

Many artists like drawing their favorite characters playing flutes. And sometimes, there are errors. Especially when not all artists are musicians.

Well… I have 2 years total of flute experience. Some months of learning, some months of playing for fun, and 1 school year of marching band. But i haven't play in about 10 years. I play concert flute. The meTallic kind. Not the wooden/ bamboo kind. But the hands are the same.

Flutists/ Flautists , feel free to reblog and add your comments. Especially if you have more experience.

excuse my pajamas.

FOR VISUAL GUIDE: On my left hand is a red wristband/ bracelet. On my right hand is a black wristband/ bracelet and black paper claws.

First! I hold flute in set/ attention position (as known in marching band).

Me, wearing pajamas and sunglasses to cover my face, holding my flute in set position. The instrument is perpendicular to the ground (or parallel with the body) and the mouthpiece is level with my mouth. My left hand is wearing a red wristband/ bracelet. My right hand is wearing a black wristband/ bracelet and adorned with black paper claws.

End Image ID]

NOTICE: My left hand is positioned above my right hand. this makes going into playing position easier.

Second! I hold flute in playing/ horns up position. This is what the artists are more interested in, since we are drawing characters playing the flutes.

Me, wearing pajamas and sunglasses to cover my face, holding my flute in playing/ horns up position. The instrument is parallel to the ground and the mouthpiece is touching my mouth. My left hand is wearing a red wristband/ bracelet. My right hand is wearing a black wristband/ bracelet and adorned with black paper claws.

NOTICE: The flute is position on my right. My left arm is across my body. My left palm is facing in, the wall. My left hand is closer to my body. My right palm and fingers are facing out, toward you. My right hand is farther out away from my body.

This applies for any and all fandoms. I know that QSMP and Hetalia have characters who canonically play flutes. I originally made this post for the qsmp fandom.

HAVE FUN DRAWING!
