neil is the protagonist, so whenever he has that small smile, the unforced one, not for the show, todd knows it's just for him.

and forever is theirs

there is something about todd belly-laughing that makes neil want to catch him like a pretty butterfly, pin him down and keep them in that moment forever. because when todd laughs so genuinely that neil can see his teeth, that his eyes become crescent moons, that he can see the kid todd once was, sugar-drunk and wide-eyed, that is what forever feels like.
