They are not separate beings, blob can just switch between the two whenever they'd like
New Challenger can be many different things, them doing something to get the others attention, them making the others more aggressive, them just pulling a prank, etc.
They can float, I mean how else do you actually see them at eye level
That's what I have so far, might make more later but I had a lot of fun doing this. Alright, back into the vents I go!
