          one  wouldn’t  assume  that  GLOW  would  wind  up  in  hawkins,  indiana  of  all  places,  but  they  had,  and  at  first,  debbie,  for  the  life  of  her,  couldn’t  wrap  her  head  around  why  sam  would  have  them  wasting  time  in  a  small,  podunk  town  with  a  population  of  what  felt  like  barely  100  people.  sam  had  given  her  some  bullshit  reason—something  about  hawkins  making  headlines  for  it’s  strange  goings  on  and  how  it  could  get  them  more  publicity  if  they  shot  a  few  matches  there—but  debbie  hadn’t  been  convinced…at  first.

          even  if  she  still  didn’t  really  think  they’d  gain  any  popularity  from  performing  in  this  small  town,  she  found  most  of  the  residents  charming  in  a  way.  one  resident  in  particular:  joyce  byers  had  caught  her  attention.

          debbie  could  admit  that  she  didn’t  really  have  any  friends—with  her  last  one  being  a  literal  homewrecker  and  life  ruiner—but  there  was  something  different  about  joyce.  she  seemed  real  and  honest  and  no  nonsense  and  debbie  thought  the  pair  could  make  really  good  friends—at  least  for  the  time  she  was  in  town.  though  she  couldn’t  quite  place  her  finger  on  why  she  preferred  not  to  dwell  on  their  limited  time.

          “ you  ever  plan  on  telling  me  where  exactly  you’re  taking  me ? ”  debbie  asks,  distracting  herself  from  her  thoughts,  as  she  turns  and  her  eyes  lock  onto  joyce’s  profile.  “ y’know,  i  hate  surprises,  so— ”
