I adore Her Tale of Shim Cheong(그녀의 심청)'s refusal to show you its characters' secrets. We find out so much about them, they're so well-developed, and yet they're just well-realized enough for it to be obvious that we're missing pieces. We don't know Madam Jang's given name, or if she chose a new name for herself some day. The same goes for Ditchdeok, and the Step-daughter. We never see if Cheong and Madam kissed under the fireflies, and in a few other moments, too. What would, in other series, be a cop-out ending, where we just see them get together and skip over the relationship life itself, is part of a bigger point here. This story's being shared with us, but it isn't ours.

The women live for themselves.

I think that's how I'd describe the happy ending of this series.
