In the Iron days of mankind, every deity was deemed a god or goddess of war.  Combat was a part of the background of life, the brick and mortar of their reality.  They were all supposedly gods and goddesses "of war", in the same way Inuit deities would be deities "of snow", or merpeople deities would be deities "of water".  Gods of PEACE were also gods of war.  War, war, war.
