Request: Could you write an imagine where the reader is a 15 year old girl & Spencer Reid's goddaughter? Both her parents die and she's never met him but she has to go live with him & meet all the team?
You sucked your bottom lip into your mouth. A nervous habit of yours. ‘Do you know Spencer Reid?’ The worker in the front of the car asked. You took your eyes from the large plentiful buildings that were covered in lights. She was glancing at you in the mirror. You shook your head. ‘No, I seen one of his lectures online. The last time we met I was 1’ You cleared your throat and looked away from her.
She didn’t try talk to you again as you lost yourself in the unfamiliar surroundings. Since the accident, the crash, you hadn’t exactly spoken much. You hadn’t had any reason to. They’d asked you if you had any relatives, you said no but a godfather in Washington. A Doctor Spencer Reid. They’d asked after your health, both physical and mental, and you’d told them you were fine. The police had asked you about the accident. You’d told them. That was it. You never started a conversation with them.
You didn’t like them talking to you. They spoke like they were waiting for you to explode, to break. They looked at you with pity in their eyes. The poor little 15 year old who had lost her parent in a crash, one she had survived. But you didn’t need pity. You needed help, you needed a family. Hopefully this Dr Reid could help.
You were jolted out of your thoughts as you came to a stop. Looking up you were in front of a tall building. 'We’re here’ The lady turned looking at you with a smile on her face. You nodded reaching for the handle and pulling yourself out. It had been hard to maneuver with the sling but they had insisted you stay wearing it. You could see the worker sigh in the car before getting out placing another friendly smile on her face as you began to grab a bag out of the trunk. 'Let's go, we’re a little early but he said he should be home by now’ She beamed at you as she grabbed two bags and started towards the building. Looking up at the grey building you took in a deep breath letting it back out before hoisting the heavy bag up and following the lady.
Her knuckles wrapped fastly and harshly against the door. There was a muffled shout from inside before there was some shuffling loud footsteps and then the door opened.
Your eyes widened. He looked young, too young, you thought that lecture was from years ago, seemingly not. He was tall too, wearing a shirt, knitted vest and tie with a pair of suit pants and good shoes. How old was he? Was this a good idea? 'Oh-hi. You're early' He looked slightly surprised to see you there. You wondered exactly how early you were. ‘Oh yes, sorry Mr Reid’ She smiled. ‘Eh-Doctor’ Was all he said. Her eyebrows furrowed and she tilted her head to the side. ‘Excuse me?’ He shifted slightly. ‘It’s Doctor Reid’ You tried hard to keep the smile from crossing your face as her eyes widened and she nodded rushing to apologise. ‘Sorry, I’m so sorry Dr. Reid, my apologies’ He just nodded.
She bent and laid one of your bags on the ground. ‘Anita Roberts, child services’ She held out her hand. You seen his hesitation before he reached out and gave her a quick handshake pulling his own hand back. Your mother had told you once about his hatred of handshakes. He turned to look down at you. ‘Hello’ He smiled. ‘Hi, Dr. Reid I’m Y-’ He nodded .’Y/n, yeah, I recognise you. Your Mom sent me photos all the time’ You blinked a little, since the crash everyone had listened, just listened, never cutting you off.
This was definitely refreshing, someone treating you normal. ‘And, eh, call me Spencer’ You smiled at him and waved the hand in your sling and he smiled slightly waving back. You stood looking at each other for a moment before he cleared his throat. ‘Oh- come in’ He stood out of the way. ‘Is that all you have?’ He nodded to the few bags. ‘There’s more in the car Dr. Reid’ The woman clarified. ‘I’ll show you your room and then get your bags, is that okay?’ You nodded as he closed the door. ‘Yeah, thanks Spencer’ He smiled sweetly at you before rushing ahead leading you to the room.
It was nice, small, a lot smaller than your old room but nice. It was painted a soft green, and had a bed in the centre. There was a few cabinets, a bedside table, a tall skinny bookshelf and then a wardrobe in the corner. Simple. ‘Alright Y/n, I think it’s time for me to go and for you two to get to know each other’ The social worker smiled at you from the doorway as Spencer put the last bag on the bed. You turned looking up at her. ‘Thank you’ You smiled slightly. She beamed at you and nodded. ‘Anytime, you both have my number if you need anything’ SHe looked at Spencer pointedly. You nodded and she smiled softly at you. ‘I’ll show you out’ Spencer followed her out leaving you alone again.
Moving a bag you sat on the bed, it was nice, comfortable. It wasn’t home, but it wasn’t like you could go home, you didn’t have a home now. You wiped the tear that fell from your eye at the thought, you didn’t want the first thing Spencer remembered was you sitting crying when he had clearly put all this together for you. ‘My team has the day off tomorrow’ You jumped slightly to see Spencer standing in the doorway his hands in his pockets. ‘They wanted to know if you wanted to get dinner with them. JJ knows this little Italian place a block or two from here, she says it's good. I’d trust her, she has good taste. Unlike Morgan who tried to get me to eat with chopsticks once, which is impossible. I still can not fathom how people eat with those’ He shook his head taking in a breath.
You giggled. ‘Yeah, yeah, I like Italian’ You smiled after his little ramble. ‘Do you not know how to use chopsticks?’ He shook is head looking to the left. ‘They never let me live it down either, I am still hearing about it’ You smiled up at him. ‘I know, I could teach you, then you could al go out for dinner and show them you can use them’ He looked at you and then the corners of his lips pulled down in a satisfied look.’ That, is a good plan’ He nodded looking triumphant. ‘ ‘Um, Spencer, thanks, thanks for doing this for me. We don’t know each other really but thank you’ He stared at you for a second but nodded. ‘You Mom would have wanted me to help, it really isn’t that big of a deal’ He stepped into the room.
You watched him as he hovered. ‘I thought you should meet the team as soon as possible, we are close’ He shrugged and pushed back his hair from his face. ‘They’re a big part of my life’ He turned to look at you. ‘My only friends really’ You smiled softly at him, it wasn’t a surprise that he would be a little awkward, from what you had observed he didn’t get much, although your Mom did tell you he was a genius, maybe it was just people he didn’t get. ‘They’ll be around a lot, especially Penelope Garcia. They’re nice, you’ll like them’ He smiled as he walked towards the bed.
He sat beside you. ‘Eh, you’re okay with that right? Or do you need time to settle in?’ You shook your head looking down at your feet. ‘I guess I should, I don’t know, try get to know the place and all?’ You heard him sigh. ‘You don’t need to start adapting right away Y/n, people who experience a tragedy in their lives sometimes need to take a step back and just be with their thoughts’ You looked up at him and laughed a little bitterly. ‘I’ve had almost three weeks of that when I was in the hospital and with child services, sure they were there but I guess I never paid attention to them.So really, I think I’ve had every thought you can at this stage Spencer’ He pursed his lips nodding again. ‘You never really do’ He whispered and looked away from you towards the wall.
You furrowed your brows. ‘I-I-’ But you didn’t know what you wanted to say so you just didn’t say anything. ‘If you want some time alone, that’s fine. If not, I have never really made dinner before, and I heard you make excellent Shepherd's Pie’ He stood and straightened out his slacks and laid his hand on your shoulder with a smile. Then he turned and walked from the room, well, your room. For a moment you sat in silence, on your own, thinking about what he said. Standing, you decided you should help him with dinner, he had offered after all. And you should probably try with this man he had taken you in even though he didn’t know you.
Plus, your Mom was fond of him.
Later that night you padded through the sitting room and sat in the chair by the chess table. Looking out you seen the city still moving below you. You pulled the blanket closer around you. ‘Y/n?’ You jolted to see Spencer walking around the corner rubbing his eyes. ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you’ You whispered taking in his disheveled appearance. ‘It’s okay’ He shrugged. ‘You shouldn’t be up alone’ He began walking towards you and took the seat across from you. ‘What is keeping you up?’ He asked leaning back in the chair. ‘The sounds, it’s busy here’ You told him. He nodded glancing out the window. ‘You get used to it, I did’ You nodded picking at the blanket slightly.
It was silent for a moment before he spoke again. ‘Do you want to be left alone?’ You shook your head. ‘No, I haven’t had a moment alone since they died, it annoyed me, it did’ You breathed and licked your lip. ‘But, I don’t know, you seem different, they were always watching me,talking at me’ You smiled slightly at him. ‘I don’t mind being with you, you leave me to my thoughts, you’re not trying to get me to tell you everything going through my mind’ He nodded pursing his lips. ‘Even though you just want to keep them to yourself’ You shrugged .’I don’t know if I am or not’ He watched you for a second ‘Do you want to? Talk I mean?’ You shook your head leaning back in your seat.
He nodded. ‘I don’t know what to say’ You shrugged. ‘They expected me to know what to say, to know how to say it, but I just-I don’t. It makes sense in my head, but I never know how to say it’ He nodded and crossed his arms. ‘Well, you have lost both your parents, survived yourself, it’s going to mess with your head for a while, that’s natural. I see it with the people I talk to for my job’ You tilted your head silently hoping he would explain further. And he did. ‘They don’t know what to say, they don’t know what’s important, they have this vacant look in their eyes like they don’t know what’s real or what’s not’ You nodded understanding. ‘It’s overwhelming, your brain can’t deal with all the grief all the trauma, you can not explain something you can not even understand properly yourself’ You gave him a watery smile.
It made sense, the only thing you knew for certain was they were gone, you felt alone and sad, But that wasn’t it, they weren’t the right words for the hole inside you, how were you supposed to describe that? It was just a massive pit of emotions you couldn’t get into. They were there and they were killing you but you couldn’t understand hem. One minute it’s anger, the next sadness, then guilt, then sadness, and then the cycle starts again. Then when it all hurt too much just, numbness. ‘Thank you Spencer’ You had to clear your throat and he nodded slowly.
You both sat in silence again. ‘You’re not wearing your sling’ He pointed out. You shrugged again. ‘I don’t feel sore or anything, I told them that but they told me I still needed to wear it. It feels okay’ You flexed your shoulder and elbow. Spencer nodded. ‘Do you play chess?’ You looked away from the window to him as he sat forwards. ‘All I’m saying is, chess involves a lot of thinking if you play it right. It will tire your mind, that’s a good thing if you want to sleep, and you should sleep’ You chuckled slightly nodded.
You sat forwards. ‘You sound like a father’ That made him shrug and you could swear in the low light he was blushing slightly. ‘And yes, I play, not very well though’ He smiled up at you reaching forwards and beginning to put all his pieces back in place. ‘I play well enough. I’ll teach you’ You nodded and reached out arranging your own pieces into their starting positions. ‘What you need to do, is think three moves head, that is how you get a grasp of the game’ He said and gestured for you to move one of your piece.
Spencer was sitting reading a book when you emerged from your room about midday. ‘Hi’ You smiled. ‘Morning, did you sleep in until now?’ He looked up from the book. ‘It was a long day yesterday’ You shrugged. He nodded. ‘I was merely wondering, you can sleep in if you want. Sleep is good’ You nodded sitting down on the other end of the couch. ‘Do you read?’ He asked. You nodded. ‘Yes, sometimes’ Spencer gestured to all the books around. ‘Have a look if you want’ And he went back to reading. You watched him as his finger ran down the page, then the next and then he turned it over doing the same again. ‘Hold on, you couldn’t possibly read that fast’ You pointed out.
He looked up and smiled. ‘I have an eidetic memory and can read 20000 words a minute’ Your eyes widened. ‘Wow’ You breathed looking around the room. 20,000 words. Your eyes fell on the half completed game from last night. Spencer was clearly winning, and you could tell he was going easy on you. But it was definitely what you had needed, about half an hour of intense playing with him and you were almost falling asleep in your seat.
The sound of the doorbell caught you off guard. ‘That’s the team’ Spencer rushed by you and towards the door. You shuffled around the back of the couch suddenly nervous. These were the most important people in Spencer’s life, if they didn’t like you, would he decide that you should go? ‘Hey, sweetheart’ You blinked being pulled from your thoughts. In front of you was a tall smirking man with dark skin. ‘Eh-hi’ You help out your hand. ‘Y/n’ He smiled down at you and took your hand. ‘We know, the kid told us about you’ He pulled you into a quick hug patting your hair. ‘Derek Morgan’ You nodded.
Then a blond girl, bubbly with curly hair and bright clothing stepped up. ‘Step aside sugar, the rest of us want to see her too’ She takes you face in her hands smiling down at you. ‘You have the prettiest eyes’ She beamed and you blinked confused at what was happening. ‘Garcia, you’ll scare her’ The other blond girl laughed. ‘Right’ She pulled away from you. ‘Penelope Garcia, tech wiz, anything you need, you come to me’ She winked at you and you chuckled. ‘JJ’ The other blond woman chuckled shaking your hand. ‘And if we find out you’ve been getting Garcia to change your school grades we will arrest you’ The dark haired woman gave you both a warning look.
You giggled. ‘Oh honey’ Garcia smiled. ‘You won’t find out’ Derek laughed behind her throwing an arm over her. ‘Baby girl that’s breaking the law’ She shrugged. ‘I have you to get me off though don’t I’ She smirked at him. ‘Emily Prentiss’ The dark haired woman smiled at you. ‘That’s Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi’ The two men nodded at you greeting you. ‘Hi’ You waved, it’s nice to meet you all’ You smiled looking at the team.
Morgan clapped his hands together and rubbed his palms off one another. ‘Now, why don’t we something to eat I am starved’ He suggested and you heard a round of agreement everyone claiming to be hungry. ‘I’ll go grab my coat’ You piped up before rushing off down the hallway.
When you came back it was only Spencer in the apartment. ‘They’re down at the cars’ He told you catching you looking around. ‘They like you, not surprising. Do you like them?’ He asked as you both stepped outside and he locked the door behind you both. You nodded. ‘I like Penelope, she seems fun’ You smiled at him. ‘Are her and Derek a thing?’ You asked him. He chuckled shaking his head. ‘No, that’s Morgan and Garcia, they have a very close relationship but there is nothing romantic between them’ Spencer explained to you as you made your way down.
Derek moaned as he took a bite of his pizza. ‘This is good pizza’ You nodded taking another bite of your own food. ‘Did you know’ Spencer started. ‘A popular pizza toppings in Japan is squid’ Some of the team groaned. ‘What?’ He looked up confused. ‘Squid’ Emily groaned. ‘You’ve tried squid?’ You asked and she nodded. ‘I didn’t like it’ You nodded. ‘I’ve always wanted to try squid’ You mused. Derek laughed. ‘Well, then, we know where we’re going the next time. We’ll get you some squid little one’ He reached over and tousled your hair.
You pulled away from him with a glare. ‘Oh, if looks could kill’ JJ laughed and you started to smooth your hair down. You felt another hand join yours and glanced to the side seeing Spencer trying to help you. ‘You know, this causes knots’ He gave Derek a pointed look and he held up in hands in surrender. You turned to him and stuck out your tongue at him. He gasped and pointed at you. ‘You see that?’ Collectively the team denied anything and went back to eating causing you to laugh a little and Derek to send you a playful glare.
You sat watching the team as they laughed. Even Hotch, who you had come to know didn’t smile very often. A soft smile made it’s way onto your face as Garcia feld out some pasta for Derek to try off her fork. ‘Are you okay?’ Spencer leaned across to you his hand coming to rest on the back of your chair. You looked up at him and nodded. ‘It’s nice to be around people who are actually happy’ You whispered. ‘They were always faking it where I was, since the crash I mean’ Spencer nodded
You glanced at the rest of the table before looking back to the your godfather again. ‘It’s nice to have people treat me like a person again, not like a piece of glass’ He nodded understandingly. ‘Thank you for this, I don’t think I could have stuck it much longer’ Spencer shrugged giving you a shy smile. ‘With us you can have a normal life, I want that for you’ He leaned away with a smile taking a drink from his glass.
At the end of the day you were exhausted. Dinner had turned into a movie and a movie had turned into a tour of the BAU, Hotch even got you a tour of the plane. Then you had all went back to his to meet his son and wife, she was sweet, and hung out there for a while. Then everyone had started to drift home.
Derek and Garcia dropped you and Spencer back to the apartment. Derek patted your shoulder pulling you into a quick hug. ‘Ever need anything little one just call, you got my cell’ You nodded and wiggled your phone, you had everyone’s number, just in case. Garcia pulled you into a crushing hug as Derek went to talk to Spencer. ‘Awh, don’t be afraid to drop by the office, I’d always be happy to see you’ She squeezed you and you smiled at her. She was a good person, quirky, but really sweet. ‘I’ll make sure of it’ You promised her. ‘And you ever have a bad test, you know where to find me’ She winked
You giggled. ‘Baby girl, what have we told you, just because you’re bad’ He scolded her and she gave a giggle. ‘Oh, what are you going to do about it?’ Spencer cleared his throat. ‘Guys’ He scolded glancing at you real quick and you rolled your eyes. ‘Alright man, alright’ Derek laughed. ‘See you two around’ He called and climbed into the car. ‘I like them’ You nodded looking up at your Godfather a smile on your face.
He smiled down at you. ‘Good, because until you go to college, you’re stuck with us’ You raised your eyebrows. ‘Who says I’m going to college?’ He gave you a small glare. ‘You’re going to college’ It was an order. You laughed. ‘Maybe I’ll be a Doctor too, like my Godfather’ He smiled at that. ‘As long as you go to college’ You rolled your eyes. ‘Yes sir’ He glanced at you before smiling.
Spencer sidestepped closer to you ‘As long as you’re okay’ That caught you off guard. You took a second before looking up at him. He laid his hand on your shoulder. ‘I’m doing better today than I was yesterday and the day before’ You told him. ‘Good’ He smiled down at you again.
It wasn’t home but it was good, nice. Spencer was nice, the team was nice. Maybe it could be home, eventually.
