one of my favorite things about coriolanus as a tragedy is that it’s when caius does the fucking right thing, when he shows compassion, when he shows mercy, for the first and only time that he gets himself killed. he doesn’t die because he makes the wrong choices. or because he fails to grow as a character. he dies because he does better.
