Marius Renathyr Backstory-ish Spoilers

if you aren't caught up with all of Edge of Midnight, i would come back and read mayhaps

imagine that after Edge of Midnight occurs or maybe even during depending on how the story goes, Marius gets the chance to go home. He returns to find a gravestone. Carved into it is a single rose and underneath are the words;

Sir Marius Renathyr best friend and noble knight

Marius knows in a heartbeat that his king did this. That he had this grave created. Marius' closest friend had given up the hope that he would live. The king must've thought Marius had died on his quest. That Marius had put his life into trying to save the king as he promised he would.

Marius’ quest proved unfruitful in the end. He returned home to a castle with an empty throne. Marius returned home to his friend who lay six feet under believing that he had been gone for years. All he had to prove for it was an empty cup and the curse of fangs and bloodlust. Marius couldn't save his king. He failed the one quest he promised he would fulfill and he lost what felt like everything along the way.
