Rant + spoiler warning for TBOB

So like, thinking back on Bill’s behavior in The Book Of Bill, I kinda realized something that I haven’t seen anyone talk about?

He does not understand the difference between “right” and “wrong”. Now, I think he sometimes can tell the different between the two, but it’s definitely not 100% of the time.

Many of the clearly abusive and cruel things he did seem like he legitimately did not understand at all how messed up it truly was, he seems to legitimately believe it was a mutual game between the 2. While he’s sadistic and a liar, it wouldn’t frankly be a strange thing to lie about, as it’s almost more incriminating than saying he wanted to mess with him.

Like, he literally essentially just says it’s a “sexy little game” (paraphrasing obv). It truly seems he has such little grasp on how things work that he doesn’t fully grasp the difference, it’s possible that maybe his perception of himself is just so warped that he literally doesn’t grasp the difference between objective rights and wrongs. I mean, he himself said he doesn’t understand the difference between fear and love.

So whilst obviously his behavior is beyond unforgivable, I do not think he’s behind redemption because conceivably, it’s likely a lot of what he did were things he didn’t understand fully. He seems like a deeply troubled, ill individual, but like if he allowed therapy to work, he realistically *could* recover.
