Helmut Berger - Visconti's darling
Once considered the most beautiful man in the world, Luchino Visconti made him a star.
Helmut Berger (* 29 May 1944 in Bad Ischl; † 18 May 2023 in Salzburg; real name Helmut Steinberger) was an Austrian film actor. He was one of the most popular stars of European cinema in the late 1960s and 1970s.
His collaboration with Italian director Luchino Visconti, with whom he also had a relationship, was considered artistically outstanding. He epitomised the breaking of sexual taboos in European cinema. He became particularly known for his portrayal of narcissistic and bisexual characters.
