Snippet Fic: Hellish Halloween

(My first fic on this account, something short and sweet I didn't have time to post before halloween ;-;. If y'all want more, just ask)

Premise: Alucard+OC banter

The library was by far the quietest place in the whole manor, nobody came around here except when scrambling for extra research material they couldn't just find on the internet. This was quite rare nowadays, aside from old manuscripts or books with singular copies that were miraculously preserved in this place. It was peaceful, the only sounds being the turning pages and the soft crackling of the fireplace.

After long days of looking into rather morbid or occult subjects, I liked to hide away in there, on the couch by the fireplace, reading whatever book caught my eye. Sometimes the books would bore me to sleep, other times I'd be so absorbed that I'd read until the book was over. A small slice of home to me.

There was only ever a slight hiccup, a certain annoyingly curious eldritch man. He visited when he came to inform me of someone else requesting my presence, or just to spout some asinine nonsense about immortality. I respected him in concept, but frankly, I could do without his presence.

So there I was, reading through a book all about oceanic life in the depths of the deepest trenches, while the outside world was only illuminated by the full moon. The only thing to interrupt that comfortable silence was the library door creaking open and a looming presence approaching.

"Why exactly have you come to pester my relaxation today, Alu?" I could practically hear his smirk as he approached without even glancing back at him.

"Miss Alice, do you know what day of the year it is? I think this should be the one day you don't coop yourself up in here." I glanced back at him, raising a tentative eyebrow.

"Its October 31st…surely you don't celebrate halloween" he merely chuckled at my statement.

"I quite like walking through the streets, barely worth a glance to celebrating youths" I could only scoff at him.

"Of course, everyone knows you always look like a halloween horror monster." He stepped closer to me, sitting himself down on the other end of the couch.

"I'll take that as a compliment, coming from someone like you."

"Whats that supposed to mean?" I said as I set into a glare in his direction.

"Means what ever you want it to mean, Little Miss."

"Don't call me that."

"Right Right, I'll try my hardest to refrain" he waved his hand in the air as he spoke "hows that new book?"

"Pretty boring and technical…I likely won't finish it."

"Oh well, Seras insisted on pumpkins for carving, if you want to take out some frustration on a helpless gourd."

I set my book down and stood "sure, i'll disembowel a pumpkin."

He stood as well, and I followed him out of the library and down the hall to the kitchen, where Seras was already eagerly dumping out the guts of a pumpkin into a bowl.

I barely spoke to him as i carefully removed the top of my own pumpkin, and dug out every bit of guts within.

"What kind of carving are you planning on?" Seras asked inquisitively, ever the chipper one of us.

"Just some 'spooky' stuff, bats, a cat, a moon…nothing particularly difficult"

I looked over at alucards pumpkin, watching him stab a face into its front without removing a single bit of the insides, orange guts spilling out of its 'mouth' on to the table.

"I don't think that's how it's supposed to be done…" was all I could muster while staring at the sight.

"Doesn't it look far more interesting?"

"Yeah, its about as interesting as a crime scene" that made both vampires in the room give a small snicker.

"Yes, that seems to be true" was all he said, before we continued our tasks without another word.

Eventually, we all had completed our masterpieces,  taking them out to sit on the front porch. Seras, a relatively standard spooky pumpkin, smiling with a row of roundish fangs. Mine, a scene straight out of a classic halloween poster, with bats flying over a forest with a single cat at center stage. Then there was Alucards, a pumpkin with a twisted sharp fanged smile, its guts still spilling out of the cuts, and a noticeable gun carving on the side.

I stared at his creation "its…missing something" I looked up at him, snapping my fingers in realization.

"Need something li-" i swiped his hat, plopping it down on the pumpkin.

"There, now it's perfect." He let out an amused chuckle, ruffling my hair with his hand.

"I'll let it go, just this once." With how his voice darkened a bit, I could assume he wasn't  kidding.

I looked up at him, flashing a smile and a scoff, with no apology in sight.

"Well, I’ll be going on my walk now…do you want to accompany me Miss?"

I glanced back, Seras seemingly already left to relay tonight's humorous events to Sir Intega.

"Fine, more interesting than deep sea fish."

With that, we set off into that lively dark night, as I rushed to follow his longer strides.
