No one else has written it (I don’t think) and the Crow Strider Epilogues aren’t out yet, so I’m gonna write an au where the homestuck characters meet the hiveswap characters.
After I make literally any progress on my fancomic, of course.
This makes me think more on how Vriska and John are just so similar, in completely opposite ways. They're both self centered, in a way, and use that to help the people around them. John doesn't really care about much of anything as long as he doesn't have to deal with people hating him or getting hurt, so he jumps through whatever hoops people put in front of him and just makes do with whatever lot he's dealt. Meanwhile Vriska is on the entire other side, wanting so desperately to be the center of attention that she tries to fix everyone's problems whether they like it or not, putting as many hoops up as possible and begging other people to jump through them 'for their own good.' it's so fascinating to me how both of them recognize their own selfishness and try to use it to help their friends, but both end up being just as selfish in the end and hurt the people they are supposed to care about. E.g. John leaving his friends alone all the time to do his world saving shenanigans and constantly making others worry about him so he doesn't have to ask for help. I just really love how each kid kinda has 2 troll foils, acting as a sort of bridge between them. Super cool!
i think something i havent really seen examined in the way john and karkat mirror eachother is that karkat is someone who is both incredibly rude and abrasive but also he deeply and truly cares about basically everything and everyone all the time, whereas john is generally nice and fun to be around, but has a hard time really caring about anything that's happening around him. on some level we know he does care, but when it comes down it in both of their doomed game timelines, karkat is panicking and sobbing over his lost friends and frantically trying to fix things, while john is apathetically wandering around watching the world disintegrate around him. if karkat had seen terezi die the way john did, it probably would have haunted him for the rest of his life. and john just rolls his eyes and makes sure to remind terezi's corpse how fucking weird she was
