Honestly The Lore Just Really Lined Up On This One - Tumblr Posts
Thinking Ghilara Lavellan thoughts tonight... Especially with Ghilan'nain likely being the villain in DA4
Because Ghilara's always had a connection to Ghilan'nain (this was in her lore even before the DA4 stuff was announced). She was born with white hair and this was taken as a sign of Ghilan'nain blessing the clan, hence Ghilara being named for the goddess. And she grew up with that expectation all her life, and always knew she would be taking Ghilan'nain's vallaslin. Until her parents were killed and her life went off the rails, her abandoning the path of Ghilan'nain that had been set out for her.
And then, being a solasmancer you've got some of that halla and the wolf imagery coming through.
All of this with the knowledge we now have of Ghilan'nain as experimenter, as a creator of twisted beastly things. The creator of the Horror of Hormak.
Just the symbolism of Ghilara as a halla. Ghilara starting off as a creature of innocence, of independence, of cooperation, of the guider, the helper. And how that all gets twisted by trauma, by being erased, abandoned and alone. How the halla has now become a beastly twisted thing. How just like Ghilan'nain's own experimentation, Ghilara has become something of a wild horror, so far from where she started, pushed there by the world.
