Envying the rest of the soldiers who are physically (and mentally) stronger than her, Hongyi has to take a while to be fully confident in herself. In the Flower Hillian army, she is consantly reassured that she'll be one of those people she envies and wishes to be.

She is fairly skilled when it comes to handling firearms, but not too good at physical, close combat. This is why she's better at handling weapons that range a far-medium distances
