ok so cool coincidence, both Sherlock (s2e2, 2012) and Arrival (2016) indepentently ended up each with a pair of aliens named "Abbott and Costello". obviously after the comedians, which btw had nothing to do with aliens!

additionally, the writer for Arrival, Eric Heisserer, who is a fan of Sherlock, says that it was not an intentional reference of the show, but just a weird coincidence! i find this very fun
