i really love kid obito just so much but it hurts so bad no matter the context of the au. hes just this... cute too-short kid whose a klutz, laughs too much and too loud and cant sit still for too long. he tells bad jokes and cries when he gets overwhelmed and tries not too think too hard about rin and pretty girls. he trips, he busts up his hands and his knees and eats like every meal is gonna be his last. hes brave and stupid and a kid holding all these ideas for the future and all these ideas on love and excitement.

and then he winds up as an adult who can only thousand-yard stare instead of cry and gets so angry he shakes when something brushes up against his hair trigger. he refuses to shoot off at the mouth anymore, words need to fucking mean something when you say them. the adhd leg-bounce he had as a kid is regularly smothered. love is a distant idea unachievable for men like him and the future is just the next day and the day after.
