WC: 4k
Warnings:Fluff, possible smut if i continue.
Rated: PG 13 i guess

After another long day at your shitty desk job as a secretary, you were on your way out when you get stopped by the department head.
“Hey Y/N, I'm glad I caught you!”
You inwardly groaned. All you wanted to do was to go home to your beautiful hybrid who you knew would no doubt whine about you coming home late. 1000 bucks says Mark was here to tell you that you would be delaying that peace a little longer.
“Mark please I am tired and I already worked two hours over today”
“Sorry Y/N. I have to stay too. We are expecting some big shot from the main branch and you and I get to personally oversee all things pertaining to him when he gets here. He’s gearing up to take over HQ as the new CEO”
“Oh my- No way.”
“Yup. Jackson Wang”
“Damn. well, he is super hot so I'm doing it for him, not you. When do we need what?”
“He doesn't get in till next week so we will have time to prepare. Just letting yo know you can pass on the DRASS project to Amaya.”
“What no way that project is mine, it's literally all I've worked on for months-”
“And I know you were super excited to fly back to Kenya to help those people and see it through. I promise you will get full credit but We need this, trust me Jackson says he wants to pick his personal team from within the company. If we do well enough this will be the push we need and could select us as candidates.- You have a hybrid right? well, I have a family of five, and having extra money in the bank whether it's just a bonus for this or a whole new position will help us both and you know it.”
“okay” You relented with a sigh taking the folder from his hands.
“You should rest up this weekend so that we can meet up a little early next week to go over what needs to get done and how we can prepare for everything.”
“so i can go home now?”
Mark chuckles and nods. “ Run along, give your boy a hug from me” Mark kisses your forehead as has been the norm and walks away with a small wave towards his own car.
Leaving the office you groan after seeing the traffic. It was going to be a slow crawl in the car for like an hour before you make it back home.
“Y/N!” You didn't even unlock the door before you were bombarded with the full weight of the handsome hybrid you share a home with.
“Where were you? I was waiting for you for so long. I got us dinner but its all cold now” His voice a little muffled as he spoke into your hair.
“oh what did you eat?”
Taehyungs tummy growled.
“I didn't. I wanted us to eat together because i got Lasagne, your favourite.” His tail which was wrapped around you as he had hugged you fell to the floor in sadness.
“I’m so sorry Tae.” You looked up to find his ears flattened on his head as his arms drop from your shorter frame.
Taehyung’s eyes meet yours as he feels how your guilt seems to seep through and he gives you his beautiful signature boxy smile before picking you up and carrying you into your apartment.
“It’s okay Y/N we can reheat it.”
You kiss him on the check and go into your room to change into something comfortable before joining Tae back in the kitchen and sitting on one of the stools.
“Wine M’lady.” Taehyung poured two glasses and reached for your hand leading you to the couch.
“c’mon it will take a while to heat nicely in the oven.”
You nodded and followed him hi sat first then pat his lap. You looked at him questioningly.
“First my favourite meal and then expensive wine? It's not my birthday Tae.By the way this wine is like 1922 grade $400 bucks stuff how in the world did you get some?”
Taehyung chuckled.“I just wanna sit and cuddle with you and have a nice evening together plus you smell like a squirrel.”
You caved and snuggled beside Taehyung instead of on his lap but he just pulled you closer to him nuzzling your hair and drawing little patterns on your arms.
You inwardly facepalmed, of course, Tae’s sensitive nose picks up on all the people from work and apparently most pungently your intern who had sent his Squirrel hybrid to give in some documents to you halfway through a meeting - “I can go take a shower-”
“No don't go please i just missed you a lot today is all.”
“ You sure? Nothing else? Nothing bothering you?”
“Nothing at all.”
It was not nothing.
Taehyung had spent the better part of the morning crying his eyes out after overhearing your conversation to Seokjin. He didn't mean to eavesdrop, in fact, he was going to come and give you a hug good morning but what he heard made him stop dead in his tracks.
“He’s a beautiful Calico cat Y/N, i think that it could be a good match for you. You did say you had always wanted a cat right? well this is your chance and he will dote on you hand and foot- you work too much honestly when do you take time to read and breathe?”
Tae robotically walked away tail tucked in between his legs and retreated to the bathroom He didn't bother with the rest of the conversation he was just numb. He turned on the shower but made no other moves towards actually showering. All he could think of was that maybe you were trying to replace him, that he wasn't enough for you or maybe that he was just too much and you didn't love him anymore. He heard you knock on the door announcing your departure for work but he couldn't bring himself to respond. After crying for what felt like hours Tae looked at his phone. You had sent a message.
“Tae,
Had to leave early,U might not have heard me in the shower.Take care. Y/N”
Taehyung felt morose. No “I love you” or cute emoji. He sighed and went to your room. Laying on your bed he snuggled up to one of your pillows and managed to fall asleep. It ended up only being a nap as Taehyung woke around an hour later. Eyes still puffy and with a sniffle, he sat up determined and decided to do something special for you.
“Hey Hyung”
“What do you wan- Is Y/N Okay? Did you start a fire again?”
Taehyung deadpanned. “Hyung that was one time!”
“Okay, what's wrong little brother?”
Taehyung whined. he felt the beginnings of tears stirring up again.
“come over. Hoseok has a day off today. Or do you just wanna talk to me?”
“I’ll be right there”
Yoongi sighed rubbing his fingers over his temples. Hoseok was currently now consoling his little brother who after regaling his story managed to upset himself and break down into full-blown tears again.
“I knew something was up I *Hic* didn't think she, we would ever be apart”
Yoongi sat on Taehyungs opposite side and pulled him into a hug after wiping some of his tears.
“It’s just a big misunderstanding okay she is just working really hard she’s not trying to abandon you.”
“Hyung you don't know that. Easy for you to say because you have Hoseok- Hyung.”
“And it's only because of her that I got adopted by him remember? She wanted us both but she didn't have the means to look after both of us so she called all her friends willing to take a hybrid on and then she said that she was sorry she couldn't do more but at least we would be able to see each other. She’s the reason we can still talk, see each other despite being separated, and hang out.”
Hoseok nods, “She got an extra bed in your room too for Yoongi to come to stay over whenever he wanted and she gave him the spare key remember? I don't even have a spare and I've known her longer-”
“she likes us better” Taehyung and Yoongi snapped to Hoseok at the same time.
Hoseok laughed. “well glad to know where I stand. I wouldn't hold it against you if you moved now, she earns enough to support you now...so if-”
Yoongi smiled “You would be hopeless without me and you know it.”
Hoseok scratched behind Yoongi’s ears and with a smile, he began “Well if you want my advice on this-”
“We don’t,” The hybrid brothers said again in unison.
Hoseok rolled his eyes and mumbled about getting something to eat and calling Seokjin to figure out what was going on.
Yoongi’s heart was aching for Taehyung. He wanted nothing more than to see his beautiful smile again.
“Y/N likes Lillies why don't you buy her some and like welcome her with those and some chocolates or something when she gets home?”
Taehyung sighed. “I thought about that but it feels too simple and like something anyone could come up with.” His eyes glazed over to the Tv where a couple was horseriding on a ranch. Immediately Taehyung lit up.
” That's it!”
“Tae we can't buy a horse ranch, even with all three of us chipping in”
“Not the ranch Hyung. Y/N likes this special wine that you can only get at a few places. If I get her a bottle and cook her a fancy dinner she can remember why she only needs me.”
Hoseok came back to the living room.
“oh, I have a bottle from the last time we went to the ranch as a group the chateau right? I was gonna wait for her birthday and surprise her but you can have it Tae,”
Taehyung glomped Hoseok in gratitude.
“cant breathe Tae”
“sorry.”
Yoongi stood up scrolling on his phone. “what did Soekjin say?”
Taehyungs smile dropped and his face morphed into nervous worry. Yoongi placed a comforting hand on his brother's shoulder expecting bad news from the way he reacted.
“He is out of town for the weekend. Some big trip so I could only leave a voicemail. It’s probably nothing. Anyway, you should go on and get dinner ready for Y/N before she gets home right?”
Taehyung brightened a little and skilled nodding. Before he left Yoongi said he should probably order food so he doesn't poison you or set the place on fire. He left feeling optimistic and hopeful that he could mend things with you. He wanted to help take better care of you he promised himself.
You woke up to the smell of burnt pancakes and Hot chocolate. Following the scent, you found Tae in the kitchen attentively staring at the pancake until a small ding went off on his phone. Shutting off the timer he placed a layer of batter where the last pancake just lay and set the timer again. You watched him fondly before he plated this one and poured honey over it. Putting the plate on a tray with the precut fruits and hot chocolate his ears went up as he sniffed the air. Turning around he saw you in the doorframe.
“Y/N...i-i made breakfast” He hastily grabbed your hand and led you back to you room tucking you in, before rushing out and bringing the tray with him.
Your heart swelled at this blessing of a man in front of you and he watched with rapt attention as you cut off a piece of the pancake before placing it in your mouth.
“How is it?” His ears sagged over his head expecting rejection.
“I can make you an omelet instead if you-”
“Taehyung it's the best pancake I’ve ever eaten.”
He buried his face in your pillow at your praise, tail wagging happily. You offered him a strawberry and a piece of the pancake and he hummed happily.
After sharing breakfast together you spent the day spring cleaning together before spending the rest of the day on a movie marathon. On Sunday You were both invited to game night at Hoseoks and You and Tae were a dynamite team as usual with Yoongi coming in to troll Hoseok much to his displeasure.
“I look forward to working with you further Mr wang.” you held out your hand. Jackson laughed and gave you a hug instead.
“No way just call me Jackson. I’ve been friends with Mark forever so any friend of his is a friend of mine, also you come at a right recommendation, which is surprising cos he can be a bit of a downer.”
“I’m right here you know!”
“I’m so grateful for you for doing this at such last minute. i know it was a lot to organise in the given time frame Y/N.”
“Not at all, Mr wa- Jackson.”
You all stayed in his office with some comfortable banter before going home.
Taehyung called over to you and began to advance happily towards you before he stopped and sniffed you strangely. You wanted to ask him what the problem was but your phone chimed. it was Soekjin- he was calling you. You declined the call because you remembered you needed to tell Tae what was going on so that you could get his opinion on things.
“It might be urgent, if he keeps calling you like that. Go see what your human friend wants.”
“Do you not like Jin? Since when? Tae what’s-”
“You’ve been talking a lot to whoever lately and you smell like a new scent and a hybrid and I feel tired so I’ll probably just go hang out at Hyung’s.”
“No wait Taehyung I’m not trying to have secrets or hide anything from you but there is something important I need to tell you.”
Taehyung huffed and went to go sit down as you took his hands in yours. He looked like how you found him 2 years ago a wounded puppy with eyes full of love and brimming with sadness.
“Things are a bit crazy at the shelter and Jin needs help in housing some of the Hybrids temporarily. Some can go to other shelters but some need a more... loving environment, calmer without the more violent hybrids sharing with the weaker type ones. I offered to take two of them in while he figures everything out. I know its a lot and if you don't want to, we will just stay just us but if Jin is overcrowded he’s at risk of getting shut down and then they could all end up on the streets I-”
“It's okay.”
You blinked. “Huh?”
“It's just temporary, right? I can understand that we shouldn't let anyone be on the streets if we can help.”
“really? you’re fine with this?”
“It’s...I will be able to deal with it. But I want strawberry cake and I’m not sharing”
“Of course Tae. Guess I should call Jin and tell him the great news!” You chirped and went to grab your phone. You didn't notice the sheer rejection that he tried to hold in.
Jungkook and Jimin stood behind Jin. The latter holding Jin’s shirt as he explained some of the pills he had brought along for their nutrition and bringing along some bags with groceries. You reached to take it and Jungkook took them all in your stead silently trying to minimize eye contact with you.
“Thank you Jungkookie.”
Embarrased, Jungkook stuttered out. “I-Its the least I can do after you are being so kind.” You practically melted and pet the Muscle bunny softly at the base of his ears and he stomped his foot a little and grinned showing his toothy smile.
Jimin, not to be outdone, said he could help you pack everything away and let go of Jin who was trying to remain them of something that they were tuning out in their silent contest to impress you. You tried to place a jar on a shelf too high and fell back into JK who caught you and placed it up for you instead. Jimin began whining that he could have done it for you but he was busy with the things in the fridge.
Taehyungs loud sneeze broke up the rowdy lot of you.
Jungkook gripped your waist in fear and stayed behind you as you faced Taehyung. Jimin in shock had hit his head on the shelf of the fridge and tried to catch some of the items that threatened to spill out.
Tehyung seeing Jungkook’s hand on your waist had yanked you out of his grasp and began scenting you and sending a snarl their way.
You sighed. This was how Taehyungs been acting ever since you started the project with Jackson. Pretty much anything could set him off but you felt bad because you should have been more understanding of how this may look in his eyes.
“ Jin, Rabbit, feline”
“Tae, Longtime! Sorry if we woke you. this is Jungkook he's a black Holland Lop and Jimin is a calico cat.”
“I’m Y/N’s Siberian husky.” Tae said to the other two before looking back to Jin.
“ I was awake- Hyung i was finishing the laundry for the new...guests.”
You spun around in his arms to face him. Petting his ears as he cooed into your touch “Aww Tae I told you I’d manage it”
Jin’s ringtone killed the silence and he dashed out telling you to call if any problems arose.
Thereafter you got the boys settled into Taehyung’s room. With a sigh you went and faceplanted into your sheets only to have Taehyung come and crawl beside you. After half an hour when you tried to get up Taehyung just grumbled and held you tighter.”
“Tae i have to go to”
“work I know” He said with a sigh reluctantly letting you go.
“Today’s a chilled day we will be done early. Besides, you guys can use this time to bond and make friends.” At his whine, you kissed the top of his head. “ please? For me, try?”
Six weeks later all of you have somewhat of a comfortable rythym in the household. On a day off you decided it would be fun to go to the beach. Jimin offered to pack a picnic for everyone and Jungkook and Taehyung were moody on the drive over because they didn't think of it first. You had also told him since he was so helpful he could sit in the passenger seat and Jimin spent the whole ride grinning like the cat who got the cream.
Once there you were happy to let the boys wander off to their heart's content after setting up your belongings under a beach umbrella.
Jungkook had other plans. He worked very hard on his physique and although shy he still remembers the first time he came back shirtless from a run and found you on the couch. You tried to hide it but He knows you checked him out and you were definitely attracted to him the way your eyes hungrily racked over his body. Since that day he would be on the lookout for any golden opportunities to be close to you. Honestly, Taehyung had it made. You were kind, smart, hardworking, and breathtakingly beautiful. So often he dreamt of you as his and he knew the others thought the same. Officially though he was still a foster, Jimin had reminded him that morning and their place here wasn't secured so Jimin said he was gonna up the Ante. At first, Jungkook ignored him and went to shower but when he emerged to the sound of you praising Jimin for coming up with such a cute and thoughtful idea, He knew he needed a plan of his own.
Taehyung excused himself for the bathroom and Jimin was looking around for the cooler box. He decided to go and check in the car leaving Jungkook alone with you. This was his moment. He stripped himself of his shirt and innocently asked if you would come to the water with him. He rationalized his need for an escort being that he was not used to such big crowds of people and thus managed to convince you out of your sundress to reveal your bikini and guide him by the hand towards the water.
Jungkook was Jungshook at the two-piece and how you looked in it enjoying the view until some guy came out trying to talk to you. That snapped him out of his daze and he flung you over his shoulder and bolted into the water trying to shield your body for his admiration alone. You were having a ball of a time and Jungkook got to stay near you and hold you claiming to save you from sharks if you found any.
Jimin had stomped away to the car and after retrieving the cooler box which he was pretty sure Jungkook was supposed to carry happily bounded to the store to get ice for the drinks on the way back. He also spotted a local artist doing caricatures and thought to remember to bring you over later for a couple picture together. He knew you weren't a couple but Jimin was smitten for you. He was slightly confused as to why Tae didn't have a romantic relationship with you, or at least you weren't his mate so he still had a shot. The only thing in his way now was the little maknae and his cute bunny-like stupid smile and ‘helpful groping’. Jungkook certainly wasn't shy in trying to subtle scent you when you were distracted anymore, not like how it was when they first arrived. No, they had gone from not trying to interfere with your and Tae’s relationship to wanting their own with you, a romantic one. The mystery now was why arent you and Taehyung together? Was it because he was a hybrid or was he just not the right guy? did you reject Taehyung before? Did you get rejected by Taehyung and now he regrets it and wants you back? Jimin didn’t care he wanted you and that was final. Even if you never returned his feelings even just being by your side could be enough for him, enough that he could get over sharing your affection with Taehyung after all he was the first even if he hates to admit it.
Taehyung almost dropped the Icecream cones in his hands.
Its been so long since you two had come to the beach, in fact, the last time was when Yoongi had hinted at you two being an adorable couple. Taehyung had gotten you ice cream to share and you had some dribble down from your mouth to your chin. Taehyung did it before his brain was able to process the action, he licked a stripe from your chin to your lips lingering for a second before placing a chaste kiss there. You were embarrassed, to say the least, and Tae hid his own embarrassment by getting up to toss a ball back to a bunch of kids playing volleyball. When he came back he noticed you with some of Yoongi’s cocktail and the two of you managed to finish the jug just between the two of you. Later at home Yoongi and Hoseok took to the twin beds in Tae’s room and you pulled him into your room. Tae had discovered you were really handsy and although he wanted you so badly you were both too drunk to do more than sleep after a sloppy makeout session. The next morning you had woken up first and Left some water and ibuprofen with an apple by his side. His morning wood making him panic in short horror prompting a quick cold shower. While he discarded his clothes he saw your underwear that you had slept in still coated in fragments of your arousal, on top of the laundry hamper and grabbed it as he stepped in the shower. It was the first time he had taken your underwear.
Yoongi had told him then to let you bring it up- the idea of you guys figuring out what you want moving forward as it was clear to him and Hoseok that you two were lusting after one another but was it anything more? Taehyung was in the midst of figuring out his feelings for you and what everything meant and how things were going to be different but you came in the apartment with breakfast goodies in tow. You managed to still look effortlessly beautiful in the morning and Tae was so happy that you got him his favourite things for breakfast from your waffle house.
“Tae, I’m so sorry about yesterday i was super drunk”
“I was drunk too Y/N its fi-”
“No it’s I'm sorry can we just forget this all happened i don't want to loose you Tae I love you. Can we move on please?”
Taehyungs heart shattered across the floor but he nodded and to put insult to injury you kissed his cheek before scolding Hobi for drinking The hot chocolate you meant for Taehyung and yourself.
“I’m sorry lil bro. If you wanna stay with us we can share my room, i have a double bed and Hobi can-”
“Its okay Yoongi- Hyung. I can keep it together for now, ill give it some time and if that doesn't work I’ll confess and we work from there. For now, her loving me is enough, even if its just friends. This love and adoration from her is enough.”
It’s Not Fucking Enough. Not anymore. That was then when he had you all to himself, No new boss keeping you at work always hugging you, No Bunny, no Cat. No it was war now, and Tae has just about reached his limit.

Instead, he’d just watched you cry for the first time. And he was the reason.
Muscles snapping back into action, he dashed after you, shouldering past many a drunk people impolitely. part. i | ii | iii | iv | v | vi (coming soon)
A/N; this is my first post on here, so I’ll make this short… thanks for reading, I’m sorry, ily
Lonely.
It hit you all of a sudden.
You were lonely. For about four months, you’ve been living in you home, working as an editor for your aunt’s absurd gossip magazine, eating solitary meals, sleeping in your admittedly cold bed, and you were just now realizing how lonely you’ve been all this time.
This wasn’t completely out of the blue. You had been feeling a nagging sensation of emptiness in the pit of your stomach for a while now.
But it wasn’t until you had your best friend’s hybrid curled up in your lap, playing with your hair, and babbling about his love for food and pretty things that it settled in exactly what that feeling was.
“You know, you’re kind of cute. Your face is… decent, I suppose. But Namjoonie is much cuter and— oh my gosh you’re crying,” Jin squealed in surprise, shock lighting up on his features as an onslaught of tears suddenly poured from your eyes.
“Shoot, I’m s–sorry, Jin,” you softly cursed, gently pushing the angora hybrid off your lap as you jumped to your feet, hands feverishly working to dry your wet cheeks.
“Was it the cute comment? I mean, it’s true, but I wasn’t intending to hurt your feelings… didn’t realize you were that sensitive,” he grumbled, pouting at the fact that you’d just ruined the mood for him.
You quickly shook you head, “no– no it wasn’t that, I just— shit, I mean, fuck, excuse my language.”
“Y/n! How many times do I have to tell you to watch your profanity around Jin— holy shit, why are you crying?” Namjoon gasped in concern as he walked out of the kitchen before running to your aid. “Did Jin hurt your feelings? I’m so sorry he has no filter whatsoever and says thing without thinking and—”
“It wasn’t that, a Joonie,” you cut him off with a sniffle, “I just realized something.”
Namjoon stared at you for a moment with worried eyes, before turning to his hybrid. “Jinnie, you stay here for a moment, y/n and I need to have a quick talk, alright?” The angora rolled his eyes, not appreciating the secrecy but not arguing to Namjoon’s relief. He quickly guided you into the kitchen, urging you to take a seat while he made you a glass of water.
“What happened? What upset you? Was it really not Jinnie because I know that he can be—” your best friend in ten years began to ramble out questions.
Chuckling lightly, you shook you head. “No, Joon. I swear it wasn’t anything Jin said. He’s a sweetheart, really. A bit blunt, if anything but nothing extreme,” you reassured him with a soft smile. He nodded, eyes swirling with a mixture of relief and confusion.
“Then, what was it?”
You sighed, turning away from him. “I just… I realized how lonely I’ve been.”
Namjoon settled himself in the seat beside yours, gently placing his hand over yours in a comforting gesture. “What do you mean? Lonely how? You know you’ve always got me, and now Jinnie.”
“Of course I know that. And I am so lucky to have you in my life, seriously. You’re the best best friend a girl could as for… when your clumsy ass isn’t breaking my shit, that is.” He gasped dramatically, swatting at your arm, causing you to giggle quietly. “But, we can’t be around each other 24/7, you know? You have your life, your job, your responsibilities, and now your hybrid; and I have mine– minus the hybrid.”
“What’re you trying to say?” He asked, searching your eyes for further explanation.
“I– I just… I hate being alone all the time. Especially in that big house. I’m home all the time, the only places I go are your place and the grocery store when my fridge empties. That’s really sad, Joon,” you muttered, glancing at your intertwined fingers.
“You’re right… that’s really pathetic, y/n.” You laughed, lightly kicking his ankle to which he grinned and squeezed your hand, “but seriously, if you’re so lonely… why not find a boyfriend?”
You snorted loudly at that. “Me? Boyfriend? Please, let’s not get too crazy here, Joonie. Try to keep it realistic, yeah?”
Namjoon rolled his eyes heavily at your response, scoffing softly, “I’m serious, y/n! When’s the last time you even got laid?” His voice dropped to a whisper at the last word, knowing his impressionable hybrid with impeccable hearing was just the next room over. You gaped at him, taking that as your turn hit his arm.
“I don’t see how that’s relevant to my loneliness in the least,” you countered sharply despite the glowing blush making its way into your cheeks, glaring at him pointedly.
He smirked, cocking a brow. “That long, huh?”
You scowled at him stubbornly for a moment. “…yes. Fine. That long, you asshole.”
“Thought so~” he sang, sticking his tongue out, “why don’t you get out there then, huh? It could do you some good, relieve some of that tension.”
“Because, Joonie,” you groaned, slumping forward onto the countertop, face dropping into your folded arms, “that’s not what I want. I don’t want a stupid hook up with some random guy I met in a germ infested bar. That won’t solve my problem, I’m lonely not horny.”
“Same thing,” he shrugged.
You decided it best to just ignore him, continuing, “but I don’t want a boyfriend either. Every time in the past that I’ve had a boyfriend, they’ve only caused me more trouble then they were worth. Either they found someone they found more attractive and ditched me or found someone more interesting and ditched me. Not to mention, guys are just all around dipshits.”
Namjoon pouted, pointing at himself and waiting for some kind of exclusion.
“Besides you of course, Joonie, you’re an angel. I’m talking about straight dudes. They’re the real problem in this society,” you confirmed with an angry huff.
Namjoon raised your half empty glass, “I’ll drink to that.”
“All guys do is cause problems. They will in no way help to solve mine. So now… I don’t know… I just don’t want to be alone anymore,” you groaned, slapping your palms over your face in frustration, “maybe I should just get a bunch of dogs. Become a crazy dog lady. That’d be fun.”
Namjoon was quiet for a moment. “Or… maybe… you could get a hybrid.”
You choked on air, eyes bulging out of your head. “What? No! You’re crazy.” You immediately shot down the idea, shaking your head rapidly.
You? A hybrid owner? Yeah fucking right. You can barely take care of yourself, let alone an entire other human– er, hybrid being. Not to mention you’d be a terrible influence, with your drinking and cursing habits. No hybrid would stand a chance in your home. Owning a hybrid is essentially adopting a child with animalistic appendages and habits. It was really a two for one. Which also meant two times the responsibility.
Responsibility you were anything but prepared for.
“What’s so crazy about it? You’re great with Jin, you took a course on hybrids in college so you’re well informed, and they make amazing companions,” he informed, hands waving around in emphasis.
You shook your head. “No way. I’m not a hybrid person.”
“Says who?”
“Says me! I don’t know the first thing about hybrids, I only took that stupid course in the first place for the easy grade!” You retorted quickly, before a sudden thought occurred.
“Well, personally, I think—”
“Shit what time is it?”
He glanced down at his watch, “almost ten, why?”
You lurched out of the chair, quickly gathering up your belonging, “I’ve got an article deadline at twelve is why, fuck.”
Namjoon nodded with a quiet sigh, following as you scrambled to his front door. Like the gentleman he was, he opened the door, only to stop you half way out it with a hand on your shoulder. You turned back to him with raised brows and a questioning glint in your eyes.
“Just think about it, okay? For me? I hate seeing you like this.”
For the sake of his sanity, as he had a tendency to over worry, you agreed, “okay, Joon. I’ll think about it,” giving him a parting hug before darting to your car, grumbling under your breath, “when you start eating pussy.”
In other words, you definitely would not be reconsidering your decision.
Okay. So you were reconsidering.
It had been a day since you had dropped by Namjoon’s place. A day since he’d made that absolutely ludicrous suggestion, which gradually looking less and less ludicrous.
It was almost… appealing.
A hybrid companion… that would definitely make the house feel a lot less lonely.
You even wondered about what type you’d get. A dog, maybe. You’ve always had a soft spot for puppies, and you can’t help but coo and swoon whenever you see one on the street.
A cat, perhaps. Cats could be annoying, but they also knew when to step back and give you space, which would be nice. A lot less maintenance than dogs. But dogs were cuddly as hell and you’d enjoy having a cuddle buddy, that’s for sure.
Now, this is all circumstantial depending on the breed.
Hell, you were really bad at making important decisions.
“Shit, focus!” You cursed, smacking your cheeks harshly enough to make yourself groan as the skin tinted a hot red. You were supposed to be working on an article your aunt had just sent to you for editing.
But god damn the only thing on your mind was hybrids, hybrids, hybrids, and… what do you know— more hybrids!
“Fucking mother fucker fucking bitch can’t mind his own god damn son of a bitch business,” you growled under your breath as you slammed your laptop shut and yanked your phone out of the pocket of your baggy sweat (perk of working at home; you never have anyone to impress) and aggressively typing in Namjoon’s number before holding it up to your ear, muttering angrily to empty air. After the third ring, he finally picked up.
“Hey, Y/n, what’s--”
“Fuck you, Kim Namjoon. Fuck you to hell.”
“Up,” a short pause, “okay, I admit, was not expecting that response, but okay. Any particular reason you’re fucking me to hell?”
“Hybrids.”
“Hybrids?”
“Yes, hybrids. I want a hybrid so fuck you.”
“Why fuck me if you’re the one that wants a hybrid?”
“Because you’re the one that put the idea of hybrids into my head in the first place,” you hissed in retaliation, slamming your fist down on your desk for emphasis.
He snorted loudly, “well, it wouldn’t be in your head if you didn’t want it a little bit in the first place. My suggestion just made you realize what was already a subconscious desire.”
It was your turn to pause, lips pursing together as you thought it over. Fuck, you hated logic and reason, always ruining all your fun. “Fuck, you’re right. In that case, fuck me, too. In fact, fuck everything, the world is bullshit and this is not what I signed up for.”
“When has the world ever been fair, babe,” he chuckled.
Groaning loudly, you slumped back in your chair, dramatically throwing your arm over your face. “I don’t know what to do, Joon.”
“Do you really want a hybrid? They can be a lot of responsibility, but they really do make phenomenal companions, especially if you get the perfect one for you.” His words were somewhat consoling for your brain, which was currently going on overdrive.
You pouted, tugging your knees up to your chest. “Do you think I could handle it?”
“I know you can handle it. You’re a lot more mature than you give yourself credit for. And even if it gets a bit overwhelming, I’ll always be there to help you out, you know that.”
You nodded to no one in particular, gnawing at your lip with furrowed brows, buried in your own thoughts, a back and forth battle going on in your brain. Do you really want this? A hybrid all your own. It would be nothing like going and visiting with Jin, you knew that much. It would be completely your responsibility, your companion, all yours.
For some reason, that thought brought a ghost of a smile to your lips.
Yours. That sounds surprisingly nice.
“Okay,” you murmured softly.
“Okay?” He repeated.
“Okay... it looks like I’m adopting a hybrid.”

A/N; I promise I’ll introduce Jiminie and Kookie next chapter, I just wanted to get all the introductory stuff out of the way early on without making the chapters too long! Also, thank you so much for the positive responses on Beautifully Misfit part 1! It means a lot, and I hope you enjoy part 2!
“Are you sure it’s enough?” You asked for the twenty thousandth time.
“Y/n,” Namjoon sighed, “you practically bought out the entire store, I’m pretty sure you’re set for the next twelve decades.”
“But what if there’s something I missed?”
“Trust me, you’re not missing any of the general necessities. You don’t even know what breed of hybrid you’re going to get and somehow you’re already over prepared.”
You offered him a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of your neck. “I suppose, I might have gone a bit overboard?”
He laughed loudly, “what gave it away? The king sized bed you ordered or the five thousand dollars worth of miscellaneous items?”
Humming in thought, you meekly interlaced your fingers behind your back, swaying a bit in your step, “a bit of both?”
Shaking his head at your ridiculous antics, he let out a light hearted chuckle, pulling you into his side. “You are one of a kind, you know that?” You smiled brightly up at him, wrapping your arm around his waist.
“So I’ve been told.”
But the light aura surrounding you seemed to crack as you approached the building. A sudden bout of uncertainty and nervousness gripped at your heart and mind.
You were finally here. After weeks of preparing your home for your new addition, endless hours of researching, and having several mental breakdowns in the arms of your best friend, you had finally arrived at the hybrid shelter.
It was almost surreal.
And definitely terrifying.
The shelter itself had been difficult to find. Originally, you’d believed it was fine to just pop into any random hybrid shop, because there was pretty much one on every block. Hybrids were very common, especially in the area you were currently living in. One prominent change in society a few years back was the climb in hybrid normality.
They’d once symbolized wealth and high status, but as their population increased, their value dropped and therefore, they were within reach of the ordinary man and woman. Within a span of two years, they became normal to have in everyday households.
Back when you were in middle school, there was only one girl who’s family was wealthy enough to own a hybrid. And she made sure to rub it in everyone’s face every chance she got.
But now, one glance down a street and there were usually at least three within view.
Unfortunately, this sprout in population came with several prominent downsides.
It wasn’t rare to hear of underground hybrid fighting rings. Men and women used hybrids as a source of entertainment, their own twisted amusement. The death of a hybrid in those fighting rings was like some sick joke on the street.
It was also not unusual to hear of hybrids being used for… sexual activities. Whether it be the owner abusing their power over a hybrid and taking advantage of them, or a hybrid being sold by a new form of pimp for money and power. It was a messed up system.
There were organizations that countered these issues, fortunately. Organizations that were dedicated to saving and protecting hybrids, as well as finding safe forever homes for them. Like H4H, ‘Home for Hybrids,’ which was where Namjoon had adopted Jin from and where you were currently going to adopt your own.
It was one of the most well known Hybrid protection organizations in the nation, and one of the most well credited. Unlike many other hybrid ‘rescues’, H4H took good care of their residents, treated them fairly and without abuse, tending to each hybrids unique needs in the most effective way possible.
You may or may not have read that off their website home page.
But it seemed legit enough. Namjoon approved of it, and you trusted Namjoon. He was good at this kind of thing.
“What’s with that face?” He nudged you gently in the side, breaking you from your train of thought.
“Just a little nervous. But it’s nothing I can’t handle,” you nodded confidently, eyes flickering over the exterior of the shelter. It was big. Really big. You wondered how many hybrids were inside. Probably hundreds. Maybe even thousands. Okay, that’s be an exaggeration, but possibly close to!
That thought alone sent another wave of unease over your restless mind.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to go in with you?” Namjoon asked, concern obvious in his tone. He knew how you could be in these types of situations. You know, with decisions and all that. Especially life changing ones.
You quickly shook your head.
“No! No, I’m sure. I can do this by myself. I want to do this by myself,” you said, determination burning in your eyes. Your best friend smiled down at you adoringly, nodding in understanding.
“Alright. Good luck, Y/n,” He pecked your cheek, before turning to leave, only to pause at the feeling on your hand on his wrist. He looked back at you with furrowed brows, nearly melting into the damn floor at the look on your face.
This meant a lot to you. It really did. There weren’t a lot of important things in your life at the moment, but this was important. So important in fact that you’d spent the last few nights damn near tearing your hair out in a nauseating mixture of raw terror and unbridled excitement. Which was more overpowering was debatable.
“How… how will I know?”
He smiled reassuringly, flicking your forehead gently. “Trust this old dusty thing. You’ll just know. Don’t overthink it and don’t force it. If it’s meant to be, it’ll come naturally.”
You swallowed. “Okay. Okay, I’ve got this.”
“Damn right you got this,” He egged you on, playfully shoving you towards the massive center, “now go before you chicken out and bury your regret in a gallon of ice cream.”
Whipping around you threatening raised a hand at him, but he just laughed loudly and scurried out of arms reach, waving encouragingly as he got into his car. “You’ll be fine! I believe in you!”
You only flipped him the bird, earning a few looks from passerby’s.
“That Kim Namjoom,” you grumbled under your breath in aggravation, in spite of the smile that touched your lips.
With renewed confidence, you squared your shoulders, raising your chin as you struck a quick power pose. “I’ve got this.”
Yeah… you don’t got this.
As soon as you entered the building, your mind went blank. The lobby resembled that of a five star hotel, wide and modern and absolutely gorgeous. There were at least fifteen other people, some working there, others on a similar mission as you.
“Hello.”
You let out a yelp of shock, whipping around to come face to face with an unfamiliar boy.
He was very handsome, with brightly shining eyes and the kind of smile that would normally have you swooning in seconds had it not been for your buzzing nerves.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. You just looked a little lost and overwhelmed. I’m going to assume that it’s your first time?”
You could only nod, cheeks warming faintly. Had you really looked that out of place?
The boy’s smile widened and he politely raised a hand for you to shake, “my names Jung Hoseok. I work here, as you can probably guess by the uniform and name tag. I’d be glad to help you out, if you’d like?”
“Y/n,” you introduced yourself, cringing as your voice cracked, “and yes, please. I’d really appreciate it.”
“Right this way, Y/n.” He took a step back, extending an arm to gesture at two large glass doors. Stifling any remaining unease, you allowed him to guide you through, immediately filling with curiosity. There was a hallway with three more doors, each with a large label across the top. The first read domestic, the second aquatic, the third exotic. “Any specific preference?” He asked, turning to you with another bright smile.
“Uh… domestic?”
“Good choice, I usually recommend exotic and aquatic hybrids for experienced owners. They can be a bit more of a handful and far more high maintenance, especially when it comes to their unique requirements. They can be quite pricy.” He explained with a playful click of his tongue that coaxed a soft chuckle from your lips.
“I don’t doubt that,” you couldn’t imagine the kind of home a person would need to own an aquatic hybrid, “I hope you don’t mind my asking, but do you have a hybrid of your own?”
“I do, actually! A grumpy munchkin cat hybrid, his names Yoongi. I adopted him from this very place four years ago. He’s actually the reason I became passionate about hybrids,” he gushed fondly, clasping his hands in front of him. His eyes shined as he spoke, betraying just how dearly he loved this Yoongi.
“Was he your first?” You questioned.
He nodded. “My first and only!”
Immediately any restraint you had on your curiosity burst like an overstretches rubber band. “What was it like? How’d you know that he was the one you wanted? And what was it like bringing him home for the first time? Did it just click or did it take time? You said he was grumpy, has he ever bitten or scratched you? Shit, none of these hybrids bite, do they? I don’t tolerate pain very well so I don’t know just how well I’d be able to cope with being bit or scratched or—”
You began to ramble off question after question, his eyes going wide as he tried to process your words as quickly as they came shooting from your lips. But his shocked expression quickly turned to a gentle smile. At the feeling of his hand resting gently on your shoulder, you quickly snapped your mouth shut, face heating as you realized your mistake.
Leave it to you to have the biggest mouth of the century.
Hoseok was quick to cut off the apology that was seconds from being spit from your mouth with soothing words, “you’re nervous. That’s okay, I was, too.”
“Really? I’m not just loosing my mind over nothing?” Your lips turned upwards sheepishly as your shoulders rose.
A bright laugh bubbled on his lips at that, quickly shaking his head. “No, no, not at all. You’re bringing an entirely new living being into your home. Someone that you’ll be responsible for not only taking care of, but loving and protecting to the best of your ability. If you do that, then they will show you that same love and compassion in return. It’s an relationship of mutualism, give and you will receive. Trust and you will be trusted.”
Trust and you will be trusted.
You stared up at the boy beside you in awe, amazed by his wisdom. “Shit, you really do know your stuff, huh?”
He playfully popped his collar, giving a modest shrug. “I try.” You laughed loudly, him grinning happily at having been able to ease a bit of the tension that had been weighing down your shoulders. “Now come on, its time to find you your perfect new family.”
Family. That’s right. Family. You liked the sound of it.
Excitement overwhelmed the previously buzzing nerves that now lay dormant.
You hovered close behind him, fidgeting as he swiped his key card over a recognition device, a low beeping sound filling the hall before a notable click. With one last smile shot in your direction, he pulled open the door.
And you swear to god, you damn near dropped dead at the sight before you (in the ‘it’s so fluffy you could die’ kind way).
Hybrids–fucking–galore.
It was like a little pet paradise. Toys for every species and massive bean bags adorned freshly polished hardwood floors.
And the hyrbids. Dear god they were adorable.
“Wow,” you murmured, heart warming at the sight of two young cat hybrids playing happily with a unwinding ball of yarn. There was a group of puppy hybrids wrestling in the corner, playfully batting at one another and rolling across the floor. You smiled, giggling quietly until a sharp yell of pain split through the upbeat atmosphere.
“You bit him!” One cried in shock.
“I–I didn’t mean to, it was an accident, I swear!” A dark brown haired boy with large eyes spoke frantically. He tried to reach for the one that had yelped only to be harshly shoved away, a growl tearing from his throat.
“This is why no one likes to play with you! Because you’re just a stupid mutt.”
“I’m sorry—”
“You should be. I better not get any of your filthy diseases.”
“I don’t have any d–diseases!”
“Liar, you’re a disgusting, diseased mutt. Why do you think no one ever wants to keep you?”
“Shut up!” The brown haired boy shouted, delivering a rough shove to the over boy’s shoulders, sending him flying to the ground.
“Tae!” Hoseok was quickly leaving your side, running over to the two as they began to fight in a much less playful way than before. You could only watch with wide eyes as he intervened, pulling the two growling pups away from each other. “Both of you calm down before you get your snack time taken for the next week!”
That shut them up real quick.
Crossing him arms over his chest, he glanced back and forth between the hybrid, a hard but concern expression on his face. “Would either of you like to explain what just happened.”
“Taehyung bit me!” The first and much larger boy was quick to bark out. Haha. Bark out. Get it because they’re both dog hybrids? No, okay. Moving on,
“It wasn’t on purpose!” Taehyung cried out desperately, “I tried to say sorry but he pushed me and started saying really mean things!”
“Did not.”
“Did to!”
“Hey! Stop that right now! You’re both acting like immature puppies, you know that is not how we behave.” They snapped their jaws shut obediently, heads lowering as they were scolded.
“I’m sorry, Hobi,” Taehyung whimpered, tugging at his sleeve meekly.
“I’m not the one you should be apologizing to, Tae. You need to apologize to each other.”
He looked far less thrilled about that, but spit out a soft ‘sorry’ to the other hybrid nonetheless.
The larger grunted stubbornly, turning away, chin held up pridefully. “Sehun, apologize to Taehyung. Now.” Hoseok voice was quiet but surprisingly firm. Sehun let out a low sound of frustration, eyes flicking back over to where they stood.
“Sorry.”
“Very good, thank you. But you both know the consequences of fighting.” The two canines quietly whined in protest. “Ah–ah… none of that. After lunch and dinner you’ll both be helping the staff clean up and wash dishes. Now back to your rooms for an hour, alright?”
Sehun shot one last sharp glare in Taehyung’s direction before stalking off, fluffy golden tail lowered. Taehyung bit his lip, worriedly looking up at Hoseok. “I’m real sorry, Hobi. Are you mad at me?”
Hoseok rested a hand between Taehyung’s dark ears, scratching reassuringly. “No, of course I’m not mad, Tae. I know it was an accident.” The dark haired hybrid whimpered happily in relief, nodding and scampering off. But for a brief moment, his eyes met yours. You could’ve sworn a blush touched his cheeks before he offered a welcoming wave and disappeared behind a set of doors.
“You handled that incredibly well,” you chimed.
Hoseok chuckled softly, “you learn how to handle situations like that after a few go arounds.”
“Who were they?”
“Sehun and Taehyung? Sehun is a German Shepard hybrid. He hasn’t been here for too long. But Tae…” he sighed softly, shaking his head, “he’s been in and out of this place since he was five.”
“Shit.”
“I know. He’s a good boy, he really is. He’s just been dealt a bad hand,” suddenly, he got this really sad look on his face, gnawing at the inside of his cheek, “listen. I’m not supposed to tell anyone this, but…”
“But?” You urged, taking a step closer to him as his voice lowered.
“There was talk of him being put down if it doesn’t get adopted soon.”
Horror. Absolute horror.
“P–put down?” You repeated, praying that he would say you misheard. He nodded sadly, lips tightening. “That’s… that’s horrible. I didn’t realize this was a kill shelter.”
“It’s not meant to be. They’ve never put a single hybrid down before that I know of. But the higher ups are saying that his quality of life will just keep declining if he continues to be adopted and sent back. Things like that take their tole on hybrids mental health, which subsequently affects their physical health. Hybrids that suffer from mental illnesses are ten times more likely to become ill and far less likely to recover from something as seemingly simple as the common cold.”
“I never knew that.”
“Naturally, hybrids seek companionship. We all do to some extent, but hybrids with their animal counterparts actually need it. It’s not a matter of what looks good for the shelter. It’s a matter of whether this hybrid will be driven to extremes.”
“Extremes?”
“It’s possible that he may become feral.“
You felt yourself stiffen.
You’d done enough research to know what feral meant. His animal instincts would take over his mind, all human aspects ground into dust. He would become a danger to anyone around him. And would more likely than not end up being put down.
But you couldn’t picture the sweet boy with the big brown eyes becoming something so vicious and inhuman.
“That’s awful,” you muttered, more to yourself than to the worker beside you. He nodded in agreement nonetheless. Suddenly, you turned to him, eyes wide, “I would like to meet him.”
His own eyes enlarged hopefully, “really? You genuinely mean it? Because I don’t think he can take being let down again—”
“I mean it, Hoseok. I want to meet him.”
You could see how he was trying desperately to stifle his blossoming excitement.
“I’ll take you to his room!”

part. i, ii, iii, iv (coming soon)
A/N; sooo someone mentioned a tag list on my last post and I’ll be starting one! let me know if you’d like to be added! thanks for reading!! and yes. taehyung has his mullet. deal with it.
You were nervous.
But the good kind of nervous.
Standing outside of Taehyung’s door with Hoseok, you felt your heart thudding in your chest.
“Tae…” Hoseok’s knuckles connected gently with the large white door, “I have someone here that would like to meet you.”
There was a quiet shuffling, and then the door was being pulled open. You swear to fuck your heart did a triple backflip at the sight of him. How had you not noticed how beautiful he was before?
He had this beautiful honey skin, free of any blemishes or flaws aside from a faint scar near the round curve of his chin and two adorable freckles, one on the tip of his nose and the other hidden beneath his dark bottom lashes. His cheeks were full and tinted by a faint pink color, matching that of his pouty lips. His eyes were these dark pools of melted chocolate, sparking faintly as he peered through his thick eyelashes. His dark slightly wavy hair was just long enough to form a slight mullet.
Now, on any other person literally in the entire universe you would probably have been repulsed. But on the boy standing in front of you—… oOooOh. It was honestly kind of unfair. The adorable set of dark ears peeking out of his locks and the fluffy tail flicking behind him only added to his precious appearance.
“Hobi!” The hybrid cheered excitedly, launching himself at your guide and wrapping him up in what looked to be a smothering hug. You’d never seen someone so excited to see someone they’d been talking to not ten minutes earlier.
Hoseok only laughed, patting the canine’s back.
“What’re ya doin’ here? I thought I was on punishment? Am I not in trouble any more? That’d be real great because I don’t quite like bein’ in trouble— who’s this?” The hyperactive hybrid’s attention was suddenly directed towards you.
“This is y/n, she asked to meet you.”
You offered a soft smile and a rather coy wave.
Taehyung’s eyes widened in what appeared to be utter disbelief, blinking slowly. “M–me? You wanted to meet me?”
“Of course I did, I saw you and you were just too adorable to resist,” you teased, giving him a lopsided smile.
Flirting was kind of a defense mechanism for you. That and cursing. And drinking. And pretending that you live in a on a secluded island in the middle of nowhere where no one can talk to you, annoy you, or distract you from doing absolutely nothing. But that last one’s just a distant fantasy.
His face blossomed a deep crimson, his ears flopping and his tail tucking between his thighs. He quickly slapped his hands over his rosy cheeks, whimpering, “oh my gosh, oh my gosh,” over and again to himself as he desperately fanned his face.
“D–did I say something wrong?” You murmured to Hoseok worriedly.
He only chuckled and shook his head. “No, don’t worry, Tae just isn’t used to being complimented by such pretty girls, isn’t that right, Tae?” The canine let out a sound of agreement, nodding quickly.
“You’re very pretty,” he blurted loudly, staring at you with massive shining eyes.
You laughed softly, feeling your own face between to jump up a few degrees at his bluntness. “Well, thank you, Taehyung.”
“You can call me Tae if you want! All my friends call me Tae,” his booming voice quickly quieted towards the end of his statement as a shy smile touched upon his lips. How much fucking cuter can he get, Jesus H. Christ have mercy, you silently fawned, biting at the inside of your cheek to keep yourself from lunging at him and wrapping him up in the kind of hug that would protect him from all the evil in the world and never letting go.
“Alright, Tae. My name’s y/n,” you grinned, holding yourself from spitting out the cheesy pick up line that dangled on the tip of your tongue.
“Tae do you mind if we come in?” Hoseok chimed up, gesturing towards his room.
Taehyung quickly shook his head and to your surprise grabbed your hand and eagerly began tugging you into his room.
It was small, but the cozy kind of small. There wasn’t much else beside a bed, bedside table, and a few toys scattered around. What caught your eye most were the many colorful stuffed animals piled up on his bed. It was child like and innocent, and you felt the maternal instinct in you begin to stir impatiently.
“I–it’s a little messy, I’m sorry,” he apologized, ears lowering.
“It’s fine, really! My room is ten times worse than this,” You admitted with a soft chuckle.
That much was true. Just because you had your own house didn’t mean that you were anywhere near responsible enough to keep it clean. In fact, the only time it’s actually tidy is when your aunt comes over and reprimands you for living in a pigsty and— being the clean freak that she is— cleans up the place. While yelling at you, of course.
Taehyung giggles, tail flicking behind him. “Really?”
“Really. I’ve got clothes all over the place, not to mention all of the toys,” you spoke in an exaggerated voice. That last bit about the toys might’ve been a tiny white lie. They were all still boxed up, neatly packed together in the closet of what had previously been your storage room, but would now act as a bedroom for your new hybrid.
His entire body seemed to straighten out, ears raising to their full height while his tails wagging rapidly sped up.
“Toys?” He repeated, eyes getting all wide and shiny. There was a bit of a whine to his voice, his lips beginning to tremble in excitement. You hummed, nodding slowly as a grin touched your features. “Lots of ’em?”
“Too many to count,” you chimed.
This time, the whine that reverberated in his throat was loud and desperate. His tail thumped against the outside of his thighs with each heavy swing.
“What kinds?” He pressed, practically squirming in place.
“All kinds! Sticks, stuffed animals, balls, squeaky toys—”
“Squeaky toys!” He shrieked, quite literally leaping a foot into the air. At this point, his tail was whirling around faster than helicopter blades, and his body was physically vibrating with the raw excitement coursing through his veins.
“Tae, calm down before you—” Hoseok began to warn, stepping forward quickly, eyes wide and worried. But his warning was too little too late. All at once, Taehyung froze, a pathetic whimper leaving his suddenly pouting lips as his cheeks were doused in bright shades of pink and his eyes brimmed with glistening tears.
It took a lowered glance at the slowly darkening crotch of his pants to realize what you had just witness occur.
You blinked, surprised. “Oh shit.”
Within seconds, Taehyung had broken into sobs, collapsing into a crouching position, hands tucked between his thighs in an attempt to hide his little accident from your shocked gaze.
“Tae,” Hoseok sighed, lowering himself at the wailing hybrid’s side, soothing stroking his back, “it’s okay, it was just an accident.”
But his consoling words fell on deaf ears as the puppy howled hopelessly, “s–she ha–hates me n–now! She–she’s dis–disgusted by m–m–me!” Upon hearing his words, you hurriedly shook yourself out of your state of shock and rushed to his side. Dropping to your knees, you began to quickly shake your head.
“No! No, I don’t hate you at all, Tae. I promise, I’m not upset with you in the least!”
“B–but I’m disgusting!” He insisted, words unsteady and strained between gasping cries.
“You’re not disgusting at all, please don’t think that. It’s not your fault, I shouldn’t have gotten you so riled up,” you cooed, hands instinctively going to cup his warm cheeks, thumbing away salty tears from his drenched skin. He whimpered, nuzzling his face into your palms and inhaling deeply. Noticing he wasn’t going to reply, you continued, “one little accident isn’t going to change the way I look at you okay? You don’t have to feel embarrassed or ashamed, I’ll never judge you.”
He was silent for a moment, his big teary eyes shimmering with hope as he stared up at you.
“P–promise?”
Oh shit, there goes your heart again doing those fuckin’ gymnastics tricks.
His voice was so meek and uncertain, yet singed with sanguine.
You could see it now.
How broken he was. The truth shone in his eyes like a god damn lighthouse.
The distrust in his mind, yet the longing to believe your words in his heart. He knew he’d be making himself vulnerable once again if he trusted you. And once he opened up his heart to you, there was no going back. You could chew him up and spit him into the gutter and he’d still come crawling back to you.
He needed you to prove to him that you weren’t going to break his heart like all the others. That you wouldn’t throw him to the curb and abandon him like those in his past. It made you angry to think that someone could be so heartless as to desert this tender hearted boy when he had put his faith into them. How could anyone have toyed with his innocent heart?
You were suddenly filled with determination. The determination to mend his broken heart. To prove to him that you weren’t like his past owners. You would never abandon him. Never bring harm to him.
In a bold gesture, you leaned forward and pressing a feathery kiss to his forehead. He whined softly, eyes fluttering at the unexpected but very welcome show of affection.
“I promise.”
“D–does this mean…” he swallowed anxiously, “you’re… adopting me?”
You paused for dramatic effect.
“Bold of you to assume there’s even the slightest chance that I wouldn’t.”
You could he was about to launch himself at you from the massive boxy grin that ripped itself across his features and how his legs shifted beneath him, but Hoseok was quick to subdue the excitable pup with a gentle shoulder hold. “Woah, lets not get over excited again, Tae. Why don’t you go get washed up and changed, alright?” Taehyung blushed, having realizing his near mistake.
“Okay! I’ll be right back! Don’t go anywhere!” He cried out over his shoulder and he scrambled into what you assumed to be a connected bathroom, not able to calm the smile that had his round cheeks aching. You also couldn’t rid your lips of a smile as you watched him go. It was only then that you felt the thundering of your euphoric heart, and the rush of adrenaline in your veins ease up.
“Holy shit,” you whipped around to face Hoseok, “I’m adopting a hybrid.”
Hoseok snickered at your astonished expression, nodding in confirmation. “Indeed you are. You like him?”
“Like him? Are you crazy? I love him, he’s so fucking cute it’s not even funny. Not to mention a total sweetheart. He’s perfect.” You retorted, hands swinging around for emphasis.
“I’m glad you think so,” he laughed, standing up, “come on, I’ve got some paperwork you’ll need to fill out.”
“But he said to wait,” you blinked up at him as he offered you a hand, which you took and rose to your feet. You didn’t want to leave Taehyung already. But Hoseok shook his head with a soft smile.
“Don’t worry. He’ll catch up as soon as he’s done. I don’t doubt he’s already committed your scent to memory.”
You laughed in surprise, “wonderful.”
He guided you out of Taehyung’s room, and you followed despite your initial hesitation. The sooner you finished the paperwork, the sooner you’d be able to bring him home with you. And good god did you want to take him home with you as soon as humanly possible.
“There are probably a few things you should know about Taehyung,” he cleared his throat, glancing over at you as you made your way down the hallway. You gave him your full attention, nodding for him to continue. “First of all, accidents like that aren’t too uncommon for him. He has a tendency to have accidents when he gets too excited or scared, just as a forewarning. That doesn’t… affect your decision… does it?”
“Of course not! Everyone has their little quirks,” you reassured with a dismissive wave. He let out a breath of relief before continuing.
“Secondly, I might’ve mentioned earlier that he’s been in and out of homes since he was little. Nine to be exact.” Your eyes widened. He’s been in nine homes? And not a one of them stuck? “None of them could handle him properly. And several were abusive.”
“No.” You breathed in horror, feeling a knot for in the pit of your stomach. But Hoseok only nodded solemnly. “I would have never guessed with how upbeat he is.”
“I was surprised, too. But the truth is in his scars. I think he has tried to block that part of his life out instead of facing it. But sometimes, it can all come back to him in an instant. He’s had several panic attacks while in our care, and a few while in homes. He once bit the man who adopted him during one of his fits, bad enough that he had to get stitches.” He explained carefully.
“Does he have specific triggers?”
“I know of a few. Cigarettes, fire, chains, certain words and names can get him sometimes as well. There should be more information in his file.”
You gnawed at the inside of your cheek. It wasn’t that you were second guessing this adoption, not in the least. But you were scared. How could you not be? What if you accidentally triggered a panic attack? What if he hurt himself? What if he hurt you? What if—
“What can I do?” You asked, “if he has a panic attack, what can I do?”
“Help him to breathe properly, that’s most important. He would most likely start hyperventilating and you’ll have to guide him. Reassure him that you’re there. His stuffed animals calm him down pretty quick, too. Just don’t smother him, don’t try to hug him or grab him in any way because he will lash out. Doing that would just make him feel cornered.” You nodded, taking in the information as thoroughly as you could, muttering to yourself to make notes of everything he just said.
“Hopefully, if you’re careful and understanding and good to him, you won’t have to worry about one occurring. He’ll be okay. It’s scary, but I can tell you’ll be able to handle it.”
You cocked a brow. “How can you tell?”
He smiled lightly to himself, simply shrugging with a knowing glint in his eyes. You narrowed your own eyes at him, but just as you were about to question him further, something like a brick wall slammed into you.
“What the fuck—!” you cursed loudly as the air was knocked from your lungs, sending you stumbling backwards. But whatever had rammed into your chest swiftly maneuvered itself behind you, preventing you from falling flat on your ass.
“Jeon Jungkook! Get back here this instant you mutant bunny!” A furious Latina came storming into the hall, soaked from head to toe, with what looked to be soap suds in her dark wavy hair. Her tan face was flushed with an angry crimson, lips pulled into a snarl that had even you cowering under her glare. You felt a harsh tug at the back of your shirt then sent you stumbling into something large, firm, and warm.
There was the unmistakable sound of growling and snorting by your ear. Okay. What the fuck is happening.
“Ms. Navarro, what happened?” Hoseok gasped at her disheveled state.
“That rabbit happened!” She sneered, pointing an accusing finger in your direction. Raising your brows, you pointed a finger first at your own chest (receiving a deadpan look from the woman) before throwing a thumb over your shoulder at whatever was making low grunting noises in your ear.
“What’d he do this time?” Hoseok sighed, rubbing a hand down his face.
“I was trying to get him to take his stupid bath because he’s beginning to stink up the place and he threw me into the tub, fully dressed!” She hissed, before beginning to spew out livid profanities in a Spanish.
“Jungkook,” Hoseok groaned, shooting a disapproving look in the rabbit’s direction, “why would you do that to Ms. Navarro? She was only trying to help you.”
“Bath bad. Don’t want it.” He hissed, the grip he had on the back of you shirt tightening, effectively drawing you even closer to him.
Shit, was it bad that this is the most intimate you’ve been with a guy in a hot minute? You almost snorted out loud at the thought, but stifled it in fear of being reprimanded by the short, yet admittedly terrifying woman standing before you.
“No, bath good for stinky bunnies like you,” She retorted sharply, hands curling into tight fists as the rabbit hybrid stuck his tongue out tauntingly before ducking down behind you. “Why you little—” Hoseok was quick to jump in as she began to storm over to where you stood, effectively scaring the piss out of you.
“Ms. Navarro, why don’t you let me deal with Jungkook, okay? You know how he can get. You can go dry off and get into some new clothes, is that alright?” His voice was like the calm in a hurricane, and the fury seemed to melt from her features within seconds.
She gave a short nod of agreement, shooting one last look of disdain in Jungkook’s direction before turning and stomping off, muttering something about giving him a right whooping with her chancla. When she vanished from sight, you let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding in, body deflating.
Placing your palm flat against your chest and feeling the thunderous beating of your heart, you turned to Hoseok with wide eyes. “Well wasn’t she just a ball of sunshine and rainbows.”
He let out a laugh. “That was Ms. Navarro. She’s like the mother figure around here, always keeping everyone in their place. She can be very sweet, believe it or not.”
“Yeah, I don’t,” you grinned playfully. You heard a soft chuckle from behind you, and it was only then that you recalled that there was a bunny hybrid latched onto the back of your shirt. Swiveling your head around, you cocked a curious brow in his direction.
You don’t know exactly what you were expecting him to look like, but it sure as hell wasn’t a large, muscular boy with a face that bore an incredible resemblance to his animalistic half and two proud, brown ears sprouting from his messy dark locks of hair.
“God damn,” you muttered to yourself. His ears twitched in recognition of your words, head tilting adorably in confusion. “Jungkook the mutant bunny, I presume?”
He nodded, staring into your soul with big black sparkling eyes.
“Not much of a talker, huh?”
He nodded, blinking slowly.
“Ah, Jungkookie don’t be rude. Introduce yourself,” Hoseok spoke up, giving the hybrid a look stare.
The bunny stood up straight all of a sudden, hand shooting out in front of him as a look of determination graced his features. “Name Jeon Kookie, twenty year old, rex bunny. Nice meet.”
You stared at him blankly, pondering if it would be possible to fit him in your pocket and bring him home with you right then and there.
Jesus fuck he was adorable.
When you realized he was still waiting for you to shaking his hand, you quickly snapped yourself out of your daze.
“Pleasure to meet you, Kookie. My name’s Y/n,” you smiled up at him, gently sliding your hand into his. It was warm but rough, knuckles covered in scabs and bruises. “Jeez, how’d you get these, huh?”
“Jungkookie can be a little clumsy at times, can’t you, bud?” Hoseok chuckled with a fond shake of his head.
“Kookie plays rough.” The bunny hummed honestly, tapping the back of his hand.
You snorted, “yeah, I can see that— whaaat are you doing.”
The hybrid had unexpectedly leaned forward as you were speaking, getting incredibly close to your face. Close enough that the tip of his nose nearly brushed against yours. Speaking of his nose– it was twitching in a ridiculously bunny–like manner, lips puckering in concentration as his brows furrowed.
“Smells nice. Kookie like.”
“Jungkook, what have I told you about sniffing strangers.” Hoseok scolded him like mother scolded her child for snagging a piece of candy from a convenience store without paying.
The large bunny turned to Hoseok with a faint pout on his lips. “Might not like.”
“That’s right, so you have to ask first.”
Jungkook stared at you unblinkingly, ears twitching forward, “can Kookie sniff?”
Your eyes flashed over the Hoseok, and he must’ve easily picked up on the uncertainty in your eyes. “Smelling helps him determine if you are a potential friend, and assures him that you aren’t a threat. It’s more of a comfort thing for Jungkook, he feels more at ease around people once he knows their scent,” he explained softly, while the bunny awaited your response.
“Uh— I, um… sure, I suppose?” You managed through your confusion, clearing your throat as your voice cracked.
Despite having given him your permission to sniff you— you still yelped in surprise as he buried his nose in the crook of you neck, inhaling deeply. A deep groan vibrated on your skin, making your entire body go rigid, eyes all but popping out of their sockets. Scratch what you said earlier. This was by far the most intimate encounter you’ve had with a man in the past few months– er, years, but who’s counting?
A loud gasp snapped your mind right out of the gutter, your wide eyes easily spotting where it had come from. Taehyung stood at the end of the hall, absolute horror shining in his eyes at the scene laid out before him.
“No! Shoo, bunny! Mine, she’s my owner,” Taehyung shrieked, waving his arms around while rushing to your side and frantically trying to shoo the rabbit off.
The bunny blinked at the puppy hybrid before a cheeky smile graced his features and he turned to you, possessively wrapping his arms around your neck and tugging you into his large body.
“Kookie’s.”
“No! Bad bunny, she already said she’s adopting me, you can’t have her,” Taehyung whined loudly, glaring hard at the larger hybrid.
“Kookie’s.”
“Oh my god.” Your words were strained as the bunny squeezed you hard enough to have your ribcage constricting. Any tighter and he’d pop something out of place.
“Y/n! Tell him! You’re taking me home, not him, you said so!” Taehyung insisted, trying to reach you, only to be bumped to the side as Jungkook maneuvered his body to block the other hybrid.
“Kookie’s now.”
A forlorn howl erupted from Taehyung’s throat, his head tossing back as his knees crumpled beneath him.
You desperately looked towards Hoseok for help, having absolutely no clue what to do in the current situation. Your first time in a hybrid shelter and you’ve managed to break an innocent puppy’s heart and nearly get crushed to death by a gigantic rabbit hybrid.
“Jungkook, Taehyung, that’s enough! You are obviously overwhelming her, please show some consideration,” Hoseok voice boomed in the hallway as he scolded the two hybrids, “Jungkook, let go of her immediately. Taehyung, get off the floor.”
The bunny slowly let his arms drop, taking a sheepish step away from you. Taehyung bit his lip in embarrassment as he pushed himself up, shuffling on his feet. You were surprised at how easily they complied to Hoseok’s demand, especially having seen how Jungkook acting around Ms. Navarro. They must really respect him. Or were mildly terrified of him. Either or seemed fathomable.
“Thank you. Now please go to the common area for a little while and allow y/n to make a decision without you two hounding her and making it more stressful than it already is.”
Taehyung let out a weak protesting whine, only to slump in defeat at the pointed look he received from Hoseok. As both disappeared down the hall, you turned to look at Hoseok, distraught and confused. “What in the actual fucking hell just happened?”
He sheepishly scratched the back of his neck, “well… you see… it would seem that Jungkook has also taking a liking to you.”
“So?”
“So… he wants you to adopt him as well.”
Holy mother of shitness.
Two hybrids? Wanted you to adopt them? You? Why? You’re probably— scratch that, definitely the least qualified person in this entire building to be owning two hybrids. So how the fuck did this happen?
“What do I do?” You asked, desperation seeping into your words.
“Well, you can either choose one…” you had a presentiment of the or that was about to come from his mouth, “or…,” there it is, “you could adopt both.”
“B–both?” You sputtered, damn near choking on air at the suggestion. You owning two hybrids? You owning two hybrids… a puppy and a bunny… they would definitely make the house feel a lot less lonely, that’s for sure. And wasn’t that why you wanted a hybrid in the first place? To rid yourself of the empty, cold feeling of isolation? “Shit, am I crazy for considering it?”
He shrugged, with a quiet chuckle, “only a little. They’re both great hybrids. Both with their… quirks.”
“What’s Jungkook’s deal?” You found yourself curious to learn more about the odd hybrid.
“Jungkook has been here for a two years, just about. His original owners adopted him as a toddler and neglected to teach him basic language skills that young hybrids usually receive from the online courses. He was initially dropped off here because they hadn’t expected him to get so big. It is unusual for a bunny hybrid to reach his height and weight. And he just hasn’t been adopted since. When people are looking for rabbit hybrids, the majority are looking for something small and cute and cuddly. He’s just… not what they’d expect.”
You frowned. “Why are people so shitty.”
“I ask myself that everyday! Working here comes with its perks, but it also makes you realize just how messed up some people are.”
You unfortunately didn’t doubt that for a moment.
Getting one hybrid was a big enough change in and of itself, but two? Could you handle it? Probably not. Would you end up losing your mind before the age of thirty? Most likely. Were you crazy enough to do it anyway?
Yes. Yes you were.
“Alright. I’ve made my decision,” you clapped your hands together loudly, grinning up at Hoseok.
“Already?” He blinked in surprise at how quickly you were able to make up your mind.
“Yup!”
“Who?”
“Both.”
“B–both?” He sputtered in disbelief that you’d actually listened to him, expression mirroring the one you had work earlier. Snickering softly, you nodded. “Do you think you’ll be able to handle it? Taking on two hybrids is a big responsibility. Especially hybrids like Jungkook and Taehyung.”
“Are you trying to dissuade me, Jung Hoseok?”
“No! No, not at all! I just don’t want you to take both home, then realize that you’re not able to handle both of them and end up bringing one or both of them back—” Hoseok let out a yelp of surprise as you took an abrupt step towards him, staring him dead in the eyes.
“I would never do that to either of them. I’m mature enough to know what I can and cannot handle. And if I knew I wouldn’t be able to love those boys the way they deserve to be love then I wouldn’t even be considering taking them in. I’m not some ignorant kid looking for a play thing to enjoy them throw away when I get bored. Like you said earlier… I’m looking for a family. And something about those boys tells me that they’re the perfect fit.”
“Ding, Ding, Ding! Right answer.” He grinned, patting you on the shoulder before smoothly stepping around you and trotting down the hall, “now let’s go adopt you some hybrids.”
You scoffed in amused disbelief upon realizing that that entire little conversation was a set up. “Clever, Jung Hoseok. Real clever,” you chuckled, trailing behind him. He guided you back to the front desk, grabbing all of the paperwork that needed to be filled out in order for the hybrids to legally become yours. The entire way, you couldn’t shake the smile so big that it was making your cheeks ache.
This was crazy, absolutely crazy. Adopting two of the cutest hybrids you’d ever seen in your life in one day… you were definitely questioning your own sanity. But Namjoon said that he’d always be there to help when you needed it. It wasn’t like you were going into this alone, which you were more than just grateful for.
You wondered about every possible thing that came to mind as you filled out the paperwork, page by page, reading over every line with scrutinizing eyes. Most of it was just legal stuff, who would be their vet and such. You’d already gone over most of it with Namjoon in the nights prior to actually coming here so it wasn’t difficult to recall.
Somewhere between the lines you heard a commotion. A group of three teenaged boys (couldn’t be more than thirteen years old) had walked into the shelter, laughing loudly and shoving one another. But their rowdiness quieted as they caught both your and Hoseok’s suspecting gazes, smiling innocently and waving. You got a bad vibe from them, but you tried to focus on finishing the paperwork as Hoseok (begrudgingly) asked what he could help them with.
After another ten some minutes, you reached the last page, brows raising as you read over the last line.
Hybrid’s signature of approval, it read. A faint smile touched your lips.
Hoseok, who’d returned from showing the group to where the hybrids were, must’ve seen the look on your face because he tapped the desk, drawing your attention back to him. “Ready?” You jumped out of your seat, nodding rapidly. He smiled happily at your enthusiasm, nodding towards the door, “let’s go get ‘em.”
By the time you reached the familiar door, your body was buzzing with excitement. All the hybrids had to do was write their signature of approval and they’d be yours.
But unfortunately, they weren’t the first people to catch your attention when the door swung open. In fact, it was the same group of boys as earlier, huddled together in a corner, jeering at a cowering hybrid who was weakly begging them to stop.
“Yah! Get away from him immediately.”
Oooh, Hoseok was maaaad.
The kind of mad where every vein in his neck and forehead was bulging and his face was slowly shifting into fifty shades of red. He stormed over to the group, who now seemed frozen in place at being caught in the act, you following close at his heel. He gathered them up by the backs of their shirts, sharply admonishing them.
“How dare you come in here, into their home, and harass them. How dare you think it’s the least bit acceptable to treat anyone with such disrespect. What will your mothers think about this?” He snarled, glaring eyes jumping from one boy to the next, committing their faces to memory.
“Please don’t call my mom!” One cried out as he dragged them away.
As Hoseok guided the boys out of the room, your eyes flickered back towards the boy. He was crouched against the wall, head tucked into his knees, arms hugging himself with whatever strength remained in his small form. Every few seconds, his body would quiver with what you guessed to be silent sobs. The sight was enough to have your heart shattering into a trillion tiny shards.
Before your mind could ration with your body, your feet were carrying you over to where he sat.
Quietly, you fell to your knees in front of him. He didn’t lift his head, but you knew that he was aware of your presence from the way his small black ears twitched forward, angling themselves attentively in your direction.
“Hello,” you uttered softly, as not to scare him. He was obviously already shaken and deeply upset by what had just occurred and you had no intention of worsening that feeling. When he failed to reply, you continued in that same gentle voice, “are you alright?”
The hybrid scoffed into his arms in disbelief.
You smiled weakly, “stupid question?” He only hummed. “I’m sorry… I’m not great at the whole consoling thing. Kids like that are inconsiderate assholes. Whatever they did or said— don’t believe it, they only want a reaction.”
“But it’s true,” The sharpness of his words caught you off guard, muffled but rigid with hurt and anger, “everything they said was true.”
“What’d they say, hun?” You coaxed carefully, tempted to reach out and touch his hand but knowing that may be crossing a line. He shook his head, burying his face further into the fabric of his sleeves. Sighing, you scooted closer to him, “It’s alright, you can tell me.”
His ears fluttered, as he rolled his neck just enough that he could peek up at you from the corner of his eye, squinting in attempt to get a clear view of your face. There was a moment of hesitation before he spoke again.
“They said… that nobody will ever want to adopt me… because I’m just a disgusting smelly animal… and—“ his voice croaked, “and they made fun of my tail.”
Instinctively you tried to glance behind him. But it seemed he’d tucked his tail safely out of sight of prying eyes as the only parts you could make out were soft looking tufts of black.
“Do you mind if I see your tail?”
He went rigid at the request, still feeling the painful aftershocks of insecurity stinging at his heart. He didn’t want to be judged. He didn’t want anyone else to think of him as a disgusting animal, something to be ashamed of. His body language easily portrayed this uncertainty.
But he took the chance nonetheless. Nestling his head down again to prevent himself from seeing your reaction, he rocked forward, his tail smoothly uncurling. The telltale snowy white stripes, split cleanly down the middle by a thick stream of black instantly gave away exactly what species the boy was. Silence followed, and it had him wanting to start balling all over again. But little did he know you weren’t gawking in disgust like so many others had, rather admiring.
“If my opinion counts for anything,” your voice, the soft genuineness of it surprised him, “I think your tail is very pretty. You should be proud of it.”
He didn’t say anything. And you guessed that was the end of your conversation. Saddened, you were about to stand when a small, nearly inaudible mumble came from hybrid.
“What was that?”
He took a deep breath, and lifted his head. You had to suck in a deep breath and hold it to keep yourself from squealing out loud at just how lovely he was. The sweetest brown eyes, wide and glossy and heavily lidded, a pair of the most beautiful lips you’d ever laid eyes on, along with the most squish-able cheeks imaginable; he was utterly breathtaking.
“You really… think it’s pretty?”
A smile touched your lips. “I think it’s beautiful. I think you are beautiful.”
A warm, pink blush illuminated his cheeks. “I’m not beautiful,” he quickly shook his head, but his ears were peeled forward, searching for more praise.
“You’re right, you’re not beautiful,” his face fell, tail dropping, “because beautiful isn’t a strong enough to describe you. You’re gorgeous, stunning, magnificent, ethereal!” He laughed loudly –a bubbly sound that was ridiculously contagious–, pressing his face into the palms of his hands once again. Only this time it wasn’t in shame or humiliation.
“That’s ridiculous…” he giggled.
“It’s the truth!” You insisted, once again tossing your hands around for emphasis. You giggled together, the smile alighting his features one of the prettiest you’d ever seen, and you quickly realized you’d do just about anything to see him smiling like that again.
Ah, shit. Here we go again.
“My name’s Y/n,” you introduced yourself for the fourth time that day, biting back a wide smile as his cheeks tinted pink.
“Jimin…” dear god even his name was pretty.
“Jimin,” you asked softly, “how would you feel about possibly—”
A low whine cut your question short. Taehyung and Jungkook scrambled up to you, the puppy latching onto your arm while the bunny pushed his nose against your cheek, sniffing and nuzzling affectionately.
“I missed you, y/n!” Taehyung whimpered, looking up at you with big shining eyes and a delicate pout. Jungkook hummed in agreement, not bothering to remove his nose from your skin.
“I just saw you,” you giggled, reaching up and gently ruffling his hair. He sighed, pushing into your pets and allowing his eyes to flutter.
“I know, but I still missed you.”
“Choose?” Jungkook impatiently interjected.
“Yes, I did choose.” You nodded, feeling Taehyung tense up at your side, his grip of your tightening tenfold. Jungkook’s ears perked, eyes going wide as he stared at you expectantly. “I chose both of you.”
“B–both of us?” Taehyung reiterated quietly, “you’re taking both of us home with you?”
“Is… is that alright?”
You suddenly began to feel worried. You’d forgotten to ask them how they would feel living with one another. What if they didn’t want to be one of two hybrids, what if they wanted to be your one and only?
But all concerns were thrown out the window as Taehyung tackled you to the floor with a hug, yipping ecstatically while lathering your face in slobbery licks. You bellowed out laughs as the needy bunny hybrid quickly squirmed his way into the embrace, making soft grinding sounds with his teeth. “Kookie come, too?”
“Kookie come, too,” you confirmed, unable to control the grin that conquered your lips.
The bunny made a noise that prominently resembled that of a cat’s purr, eyes wrinkling at the corners as he smiled contently. You had almost lost yourself in the comfort and warmth the two large bodies of the hybrids were providing you with when you remembered the third sitting not a few feet away. You immediately sat back up, gently nudging the puppy and bunny away from you.
Jimin remained in the same spot, only now he looked deeply disheartened, tail and ears drooping, eyes downcast, lips twisted into a soft frown.
There was absolutely no way in hell that you could leave him here.
What was one more hybrid, huh? How much damage could the adorable little guy really do?
And at this point— fuck it.
“Jimin, would you like to come home with me— with us?”
He seemed taken off guard by the question, blinking rapidly before his face when hard. “I don’t need your pity.” He spat, quickly facing away from you. But you’d already seen the glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“It’s not pity. I want you to be part of my family, Jimin.”
“It’ll be fun, Jiminie!” Taehyung suddenly exclaimed, scrambling over to the skunk hybrid with wide eyes and a wagging tail, “we can play all the time! And– and cuddle! And y/n is real nice; really really nice! We’ll have a home Jiminie! Like we’ve always wanted.”
You guessed the two must be friends from the affection way the hyper puppy nuzzled against the smaller boy affectionately and he didn’t flinch away. “Home…” Jimin murmured softly, with a hint of a smile, “that doesn’t sound so bad, I guess.”
At that very moment, Hoseok came bounding back into the room, immediately making a beeline to where you sat with the hybrids, “Jimin, are you alright? I can’t believe the audacity of kids now a days! Don’t worry, I made sure that they’ll never step foot in this facility again— did I… miss something?”
“I was just asking Jimin if he would like to come home with Jungkook, Taehyung, and I,” you explained with a brief side glance in the skunk hybrid’s direction. He was gnawing at his thick bottom lip, and you could practically see the gears turning in his head. Hoseok looked at you with wide eyes, as if silently asking ‘anotha one?’ to which you smartly replied with, “go big or go home!”
“In that case, it’s up to Jiminie,” he squatted down beside Jungkook, ruffling the bunny’s hair and smiling softly, “would you like to be adopted by her?”
“Could you–” he cleared his throat as a humming red filtered into his cheeks, “come a little closer? I can’t see very well… and I–I’d like to see your face.”
You cooed softly, heart fluttering at his bashful confession before complying, leaning closer to him. He mirrored you, straining his neck and rapidly blinking his chocolate eyes. Your faces were inches away when suddenly his eyes popped open wide, his entire face becoming a throbbing crimson and he quickly ducked back into himself, curling his tail around his legs.
Shit, were you that hideous that you scared him back into the fetal position?
“A–are you good?” You coughed uncertainly. He nodded rapidly, still hiding his face.
“She’s real pretty right? Like an angel!” Taehyung gleefully squealed, nudging the flustered skunk. Your mouth open and shut quickly, on the verge of objecting when Jimin squeaked weakly, murmuring a shy agreement.
“V–very pretty…”
Queue your blushing cheeks and inability to take a compliment. “Okay, enough of that!” You shot a lighthearted glare in a grinning Taehyung’s direction.
“Jimin come?” Jungkook spoke up, blinking at you with an adorable tilt of his head. Your gaze shifted back to Jimin hopefully. He paused, glancing between the four of you before slowly nodding his head.
“I… I want you to adopt me.”
Taehyung let out a squeal of excitement, launching himself at Jimin as you smiled widely. Jungkook once again weaseled himself into the embrace, large body effectively shielding Jimin’s tiny form from view.
You felt a gentle hand come down on your shoulder, looking over to see an amused Hoseok holding out a slip of paper. It had his number on it and a funny looking winking face. “Good luck with that bunch. Text me if you ever need any help, one hybrid can be handful enough, but three?” He whistled, and you swatted him away with a playful glare. Giggling, he backed off, sending one last fond glance at the cuddling hybrids. “You’ve got this. I believe in you.”
Yeah... you were in for a wild ride.

A/N; hehe... I’ve been gone for a minute, huh? oopsies. Good news is my laptops all better now, bad news is I’m still lackin in free time, but I will do my best not to go MIA as long as this last time!! thank you guys for all your patience, I really appreciate it!! if I missed you on the tag list, let me know!
Warm. You were… really warm. A comfortable, happy kind of warm. A ghost of a smile turned the corners of your lips upwards as a content sigh escaped your nose.
But the faint smile quickly twisted into a wide grin, soft giggles fleeing your mouth. Something was tickling your throat.
You squirmed for a moment, hand jumping up to catch the culprit, only to be met with what was unmistakably a head of soft, fluffy hair. Instantly, your eyes snap open, a brief rush of panic sending adrenaline pulsing through your veins.
It wasn’t until you recalled that it wasn’t a murderer cuddled up against you, but rather your newly adopted skunk hybrid that the fear subsided. He was nuzzling against your neck in his sleep, the tip of his button nose caressing the curve of your shoulder as his tiny black ears tickled your jaw. He was also making a soft smacking sound with his lips, humming softly through his nose.
You tried to shift back slightly, only to be met with strong resistance. He had you trapped, arms wrapped tightly around your waist, effectively keeping you locked in place. A faint, sleepy whine of protest escaped him as you tried to maneuver out of his vice like hold.
Honestly, you would have loved nothing more than to lay there with him for hours and hours and hours.
But holy shit did you have to piss.
“Jimin… I have to get up,” you gently caressed his round cheek with your knuckles, carefully attempting to coax him out of dreamland. He scrunched his nose, brows curled inwards as he huffed wordlessly in protest. You chuckled, pinching his cheek lightly, “hun, I gotta go.”
“…ngh… sleep…” he argued, tiny hands clenching in your shirt.
“Okay, you sleep, I gotta pee.” You reached behind you, grabbing his wrists and pulling him off of you.
“Nooo, stay,” he whimpered.
Holy shit he was so cute. His little swollen face; swollen eyelids sealed shut, swollen cheeks all puffy and pink, swollen lips pale and damp.
But your bladder was about to burst.
“I’d love to, babe, but I seriously gotta take a piss so excuse me—!” You squeaked, leaping out of bed before he could draw you back in and booking it to the bathroom.
You relieved yourself before jumping into your usual morning routine. Washing your face, brushing your teeth, putting on deodorant, until you were fully refreshed and ready to face the day.
Jimin was still passed out when you walked back into your bedroom, little stuffed chick held tightly against his chest as he snuggled his face into your pillow. What an angel~
You debated waking him up for a moment, but decided to just leave him be and go make a big ‘first–morning–en–mi–casa’ breakfast. Silently tiptoeing to the kitchen, you immediately began searching up breakfast recipes online.
Fuck how long had it been since you’d actually made a real breakfast? You usually ate lucky charms or pizza from the night before, but that probably doesn’t really count as a good, nutritional breakfast. Now that you think about it, most mornings you don’t wake up before eleven unless you have to. Must’ve gotten a pretty good rest last night to have woken up at nine all on your own.
Not to mention, you were also in one hell of a good mood.
You decided to go with the first recipe to really catch your eye on some aesthetic chef woman’s food blog. Banana Nutella waffles, with bacon, scrambled eggs, and a fruit salad. Hell fucking yes. Your mouth was watering just looking at the pictures.
After a very thorough search of the kitchen, you concluded that you had zero of the needed ingredients.
They probably wouldn’t notice if you made a quick grocery store run, right? It was right down the street, a five minute drive if the traffic wasn’t bad. It was definitely worth it. You didn’t want to feed them lucky charms on their first morning with you! What kind of impression would that be making? You already cheated by ordering pizza last night. Besides, you’d be back in twenty minutes flat, they probably wouldn’t even be awake by then anyways.
With your mind made you, you quickly scribbled a note explaining where you’d gone as well as your number at the bottom just in case they needed to contact you. Of course, none of them actually had phones but you just wanted to be thorough.
Slapping the note onto the fridge, you grabbed your purse and keys and trotted out the door.
It seemed fate was on your side today. Not only was there zero traffic on the roads, but there was next to no one at the grocery store. Everything you needed had been in the same general vicinity and you were in and out in less than ten minutes. Even better, none of the hybrids had woken up before you got home, and you returned to a still peaceful house.
Pulling all the ingredients from the paper bags, you set everything up on your countertop. You, being extra as fuck, also went the extra mile to purchase a chefs hat and ‘kiss the cook’ apron because why the hell not. If you were gonna whip up a bomb ass breakfast might as well look the part doing it.
Time to chef it up.
First things first, you gotta set the mood. Grabbing your phone off the counter, you easily connected it to your Bluetooth speakers and shuffled Khalid (at a reasonable volume as to not wake the sleeping hybrids).
You immediately began dancing in place, holding the box of waffle mix up to your face to read the instructions. Two cups of mix and a cup and a half of water. Hm. Pretty simple. Probably a good thing because if it was more complicated than that you’d manage to royally screw it up.
“Y/n?”
You jumped in surprise, head snapping up to be greeted by a sight that made your heart swoon.
A sleepy taehyung stood at the bottom of the staircase, rubbing his eyes with a closed fist as the other hand gripped onto one of the stuffed animals he’d brought from the shelter.
“Taehyung,” you breathed, reaching over to pause your music, “I’m sorry, did I wake you up?”
He shook his head, a soft smile gracing his features as he waddled over to you. He took you off guard as he immediately slumped against you, arms draping lazily around your waist as his head dropped onto your shoulder.
“O–oh,” you swallowed, eyes widening. Not exactly what you were expecting… but you would be straight up lying if you said you didn’t absolutely love it.
“Good morning,” he murmured, exhaling heavily.
A smile crawled onto your face and you slowly wrapped your arms around him, returning the embrace, “Good morning, Tae.”
“What are you doing?” He asked, voice still thick with drowsiness, head shifting so he could see all the ingredients and appliances you’d laid out across the countertop.
“I’m making breakfast. You like waffles?”
You giggled as he nodded eagerly, tail wagging enthusiastically. “Can I help?” He peered up at you hopefully, eyes big and shiny, a pleading smile upturning the corners of his pink lips.
“Definitely. I can use all the help I can get,” you chuckled. He grinned gleefully, a yipping sound escaping his throat. “Okay, so here’s what we have to do first…”
Okay, you’re willing to admit that maybe it would’ve been a good idea to have asked Tae if he had any cooking experience. Because having two very unskilled people making a somewhat complex meal was not the smartest idea you’ve ever had.
It took all of ten minutes for the kitchen to be completely wrecked. Flour, syrup, and fruits scattered across the floor and counter, bowls and utensils that had been accidentally dropped all around your feet, posing a very dangerous threat to your sensitive toes. You didn’t even want to think about the amount of food in your hair and covering your face. But, Tae was ten times worse off than you.
His beautiful face was covered from hairline to chin in an astounding blend of Nutella, syrup, flower, batter, and god knows what else. But unlike you, he didn’t seem to mind in the least. He still had the most gleeful smile on his face as he giggled at your disheveled appearance.
“How did this happen?” You whined distraughtly, peering down at your utterly ruined new apron. That makes two.
“Hey– you’re the one that challenged me to a food fight,” Tae reminded you.
“All I did was throw a little bit of flour in your face! You didn’t need to dump the entire bag on my head!” You shot back quickly, the grin twisting at the corners of your lips giving away the amusement you found in this situation. Tae giggled, ruffling his hair before cringing and whining.
“It’s sticky!”
“I think we both need an hour long shower,” you laughed, reaching up and picking a chunk of what you assumed was Nutella and flour mixed together from his dirty locks. As you did so, you unintentionally moved closer. His eyes locked onto your face, or more specifically your mouth. For a moment he fell silent, body stilling as he focused intensely on you lips.
“You’ve got a little something right there…” he suddenly murmured, and your brows raised, taking a step away from him.
“I think I’ve got a little something everywhere, Tae,” you chuckled, but raised your hand and ran it down the side of your face regardless, “get it?”
“No,” he replied, brows furrowing as a pout of annoyance plastered itself across his face, “it’s right here,” he tapped the corner of his mouth, and you tried to wipe away whatever food morsel with your sleeve, “no, the other side— ah, I’ll get it.”
You froze in place as he suddenly leaned forwards, grabbing your shoulders to keep you still –displaying absolutely no regard for your personal space– and then dragged his tongue over the side of your lips before pulling away with a satisfied grin.
“All better!” He chirped, nonchalantly redirecting his attention back onto your rather unsightly meal.
What… the fuck… just happened?
You blinked slowly, mouth hanging open in shock as your brain scrambled to comprehend his actions. It took you a solid twenty seconds to fully process exactly what he’d just done. And when it finally settled, your entire face exploded in fifty shades of red.
But you couldn’t even begin to sputter some broken reply before he was grabbing a piece of one of the waffles and shoving it into his mouth. His eyes immediately lit up, boyish grin taking over his features, “it’s good!”
“No way,” you breathed, shaking off your shock with a slight smile, “it looks like a mess.”
He quickly shook his head in disagreement, grabbing another chunk and holding it eagerly to your lips. “Taste it!” He urged. Shrugging, you parted your lips, allowing him to slip the piece of Nutella covered waffle onto your tongue. You tried your best to ignore the way his fingers brushed against your lips on the way out, and just chewed. After a moment, your brows jumped in surprise, eyes widening at the delicious flavor.
“Holy shit, it’s delicious!” You gasped in amazement.
“What’s delicious?”
Your gaze leapt up to spot a puffy faced skunk hybrid stumbling down the steps, lips still swollen and pink, eyelids barely able to open. A massive, glowering bunny with a terrible case of bed head stood behind him, towering over the skunk’s petite form.
“You boys look like you slept well,” you smiled brightly, excitedly gesturing for them to join you at the island, “Tae and I made breakfast!”
The pair shuffled over, taking in your so called breakfast. Jungkook stared at it blankly, before raising his brows as if to ask ‘really?’, while Jimin forced a smile onto his face and tried to get out an enthusiastic, “looks good!” You couldn’t help but laugh at his efforts.
“Taste it, I promise it’s better than it looks,” you grabbed a fork and knife and cut off a piece of the waffle, nudging it against Jimin’s plush lips, “open up!” A hot pink flushed into his cheeks as he gazed at you with trembling pupils, before obediently parting his lips and taking the sweet treat into his mouth.
“Wow!” The skunk gasped, eyes widening in wonder, “it’s super yummy!”
“Right?!” Taehyung blurted excitedly, tail whipping back and forth, thudding against the back of you leg with each swing, “we’re like magicians or something!”
“K–Kookie, too,” the bunny huffed, nose twitching as he nudging past Jimin to stand in front of you, mouth open expectantly. You giggled, cutting off another piece and guiding it into the bunny’s mouth for him to sample. He chewed for a moment, eyes squinted thoughtfully, before they snapped open wide as saucers. You swear to god you saw them sparkling. “More.” He demanded, eagerly parting his lips.
You laughed loudly, gesturing at a chair, “take a seat and I’ll serve you boys.”
They all quickly scrambled into a chair, squirming impatiently in their seats and watching as you divvied up the surprisingly tasty food onto plates. The eggs and fruit salad followed the Nutella waffle mush, followed by two glasses of apple juice and one glass of warm milk. And everything was gone within a few seconds. You laughed in shock at the Nutella covered faces of the three boys sat in front of you.
“Guess you guys were pretty hungry, huh?” You snorted, staring at their empty plates, “even after all that pizza last night?”
“More?” The bunny asked with a sweet, hopeful smile, extending his plate for you to take.
“’Course, bun,” you chuckled, scooping up another and sliding it onto his plate.
“M–me, too, please?” Jimin squeaked.
“Me three! Me three!” Taehyung exploded, bouncing up and down eagerly.
Soon enough, they’d swallowed up every last morsel left of the breakfast you and Tae had whipped up and were sitting with content smiles on their chocolate smudged faces. You grabbed a towel for near the sink, wet it, and began making your way down the line, doing as best you could to clean them off properly. Taehyung whined gleeful as you ran the warm cloth across his cheeks, Jimin made this precious chirping sound, while Jungkook’s foot thumped loudly against the floor. God damn they were so adorable.
“Alright, boys. Since we’re done here… I had some ideas as to what we could do today,” you grinned, pressing your palms against the counter top. They gazed at you expectantly, waiting for you to elaborate.
“You guys ready to shop ‘til we drop?”

Worst. Decision. Of. Your. Life.
You slumped on the couch, muscles close to numb as you stared blankly up at the ceiling. The three hybrids standing in front of you could practically see your soul leaving your body. Guilty expressions down turned their soft features. Jimin shuffled on his feet, gnawing at his lower lip as his flitting eyes shifted over your exhausted face.
“We… we’re really sorry, y/n,” he murmured softly, “we didn’t mean to go so overboard…”
“Yeah, really! We’re truly sorry,” Taehyung chimed in, dropping onto the couch beside you and gently grabbing your hand in his.
“Never again.” You murmured.
“But—”
“Never. Again.”
Now, you usually didn’t mind shopping. In fact it could be pretty fun. Every so often you’d go out and get yourself something nice, some jewelry, a nice blouse, new shoes, just to give yourself a little confidence boost. Even shopping for your future hybrid with Namjoon that first time had been pretty fun. Then again, Namjoon mostly just plodded behind you, dropping little suggestions here and there about what to get, his main job really being just to keep you company as you lost your mind over what to buy.
But shopping with your three new hybrids was a totally different story.
The kind of story that involves hauling around piles of clothes that reach above your head, losing at least one every five minutes, a clothes obsessed puppy ransacking and tearing apart nearly every store in sight, and finally getting kicked out of the mall altogether.
Jimin had been glued to your side pretty much the entire time, wary of everyone and anything that he wasn’t familiar with. Taehyung was quite the opposite, running around like a kid in a candy store, bolting in and out of every other store like a puppy on a mission. Jungkook was oddly quiet for the most part, seemingly on edge as his dark eyes darted around, his ears twitching in this and that direction, tensing up every time someone walked by.
Regardless, you were able to get most of what you needed. The boys each had enough clothes that they could wear something different everyday of the rest of the month, not including pajamas or swimsuits. It was strange seeing their incredibly different tastes.
Jungkook had a large preference toward dark, mostly black, oversized clothes. When he first presented to you the pile of clothes he wanted, you’d thought he’d just picked out fifty pairs of the same black t-shirt and ripped jeans. On second glance— it was forty pairs of the same black t-shirt and ripped jeans. And don’t even start on the timberlands.
Taehyung had better taste in clothes than every fashion designer you’d ever seen. Which also meant a more expensive taste as well. He picked out every designer item he could get his greedy little hands on, from socks to trench coats. He didn’t care, as long as it had Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Fendi, or Burberry logo. All in all, ¾ of what you spent overall was on items of Taehyung’s choosing.
Jimin had a far more simple, yet elegant taste. Sweaters and black jeans, turtlenecks and designer belts, button ups and beanies. He also fancied shiny things, necklaces and rings and earrings. He seemed interested in makeup as well. You could tell from the way his eyes lit up every time you passed by a makeup shop. Although, when you caught him trying to sneak into one and asked if he’d like anything from inside, he had only blushed and changed the subject. But, perhaps you snuck some lipgloss and eyeshadow into one of his bags. Just in case.
After the whole shopping fiasco, you had dragged Jimin to get an eye exam, although he tried to deny needing one.
As you suspected… his vision was shit.
He could barely see a foot in front of him. You supposed it had something to do with his skunk counterparts, as skunks naturally have very poor vision the eye doctor explained. When asked if he’d prefer glasses or contact, he said glasses. He picked out a pair of large, round, thin rimmed frames that look absolutely precious adorning his tiny button nose.
But you weren’t free from crisis. Not by a long shot.
You’d believed it’d be safe to leave Taehyung and Jungkook in the lobby. You’d told them not to move and to just sit patiently in the waiting area until you were finished.
Of course, they did not listen.
By the time you got Jimin’s prescription glasses, they’d managed to break not only multiple pairs of glasses, but also an entire glass showcase because Taehyung thought it would be a great idea to dare Jungkook to do a backflip. You had to slide the owner quite a few extra to convince him not to charge your hybrids with destruction of property.
Yeah. So that was fun.
And by the time you returned home, arms numb from the weight of all their bags, Jimin gasping in amazement at every little thing that he was seeing so much more clearly, you were down a hot buck in your bank account.
You were forced from your hazy state of remembrance as your phone buzzed to life on the cushion beside you. Groaning, you reached over and held it to your ear, not bothering to look at whom it was before pressing accept.
“Hello, you’ve reached y/n’s residence, she is currently unavailable at the moment as she is experiencing painful constipation—” you began in your fake, monotone receptionist voice.
“Okay, TMI, babe.”
You perked up, instantly recognizing your best friend’s voice. “Joonie,” you breathed, smiling lightly, “sorry about that, thought you were that telemarketing guy that’s been trying to sell me those specially imported polish bananas.”
“I’m pretty sure bananas don’t grow in Poland.”
“That’s what I said!” You giggled, tossing your head back, “anyways, what’s up?”
“Are you kidding me? ‘What’s up?’ I dropped you off at the rescue center yesterday afternoon and you haven’t contacted me since!”
“Shit. Seriously?” You winced, mentally face palming at your forgetfulness.
“Yes, seriously! I was worried about you.” You didn’t have to see him to know that he was pouting on the other side of the line with that familiar grouchy expression.
“I’m really sorry, Joonie. I’ve been kind of…” you briefly glanced at your three hybrids, all of their eyes pinned on you, swimming with confusion and curiosity, “distracted.”
“Distracted by perhaps… a hybrid?”
You hesitated. “Something like that.”
“That’s awesome! I’m so happy for you! What breed is he? Do you think he’d like Jin? When can I meet him? Wait— is it a boy or a girl?” He was rushing out questions so fast your brain was spinning.
“Um– uh… boy...s…” you ‘accidentally’ let the plural slightly drop off the word and into an almost inaudible whisper.
“Ah, boys are always the biggest troublemakers,” yeah, no fucking kidding, “what breed is he?”
“D– well, um–… b–bunny.”
“Shit, really? That’s so cool! I’ve only met, like, one other bunny hybrid before—”
“Dog.”
“Wait, dog? Didn’t you just say bun—”
“And skunk.”
“I’m so confused. You got a bunny–dog–skunk hybrid? Those don’t–” he paused, and you flinched.
Fuck.
“Y/n.” The calm and layer of sweetness in his voice had chills of terror prickling at your skin.
“Yes, Joonie?” You squeaked, smiling nervously.
“How many hybrids did you get?”
“Well, you see… it’s not a big deal.”
“Y/n. How many hybrids, did you get?”
Double fuck.
The pause between hybrids and did really sent it home that he was about to whoop your sorry ass.
Jimin must’ve sensed to fear rolling off of you in thick, overwhelming waves because he whimpered weakly.
“Joon,” you whined helplessly, “you know how I get! My hearts just too big for my body and I lose my sense of rationale and I get distracted and I'm totally scatterbrained! It’s your fault for leaving me to my own devices! I can’t be blamed for this.”
“Y/n.”
“Three. I got three hybrids. Shit! Gotta go Joon my pizza rolls are burning! Bye!”
“Y/n—!”
You hung up before he could get another word out, slumping on the couch with a frustrated groan, “fuck.” The cushion beside you dipped as Taehyung took a cautious seat.
“Who was that, y/n?” He asked, concern seeping into his tone as his eyes searched your face, “was it a bad man? And I thought you said you didn’t have anymore pizza for us, were you hiding it and keeping it all for yourself?”
A light chuckle escaped your lips at Taehyung’s mini investigation. “Of course not, Tae. You know I’d give you all the pizza in the world if it would make you happy. And, no. That was my best friend. He’s a very good man… annoying as hell but a great guy overall.”
“B–But you seemed so scared,” Jimin chimed, an innocently confused frown on his plush lips, pushing his brand new glasses up higher on his adorable button nose.
“Me? Scared? Of Namjoon? Psh, yeah right. I’m not scared of him.”
Suddenly, there were three loud knocks on your front door. “Y/n! I know you’re home!”
“Fuck! It’s Namjoon! Hide!” You shrieked diving off the couch and under the coffee table. Jimin was quick to follow your lead, squeaking and ducking down beside you, –happily– allowing you to wrap your arms protectively around his petite body.
“Don’t worry, y/n! I’ll protect you!” Taehyung declared, standing up determinedly.
“Kookie protect, too,” the bunny hybrid huffed, one foot stomping hard against the floor as his large ears push back as something like a growl rumbled in his chest.
Wait, can bunny’s growl? Very unimportant at the given moment, y/n, focus!
First of all; how the actual fuck did he get here so god damn fast?
Second of all; he was going to fucking kill you. Like, actually kill you. Probably lecture you to death while tying you to a chair and then giving a long ass speech about responsibility and self control. Who the hell even has self control in this century? No one! Such an overrated thing.
Third of all; your hybrids are actually the cutest ever. Jimin was snuggled against you while Jungkook and Tae were promising to protect you. Such sweet babies. It really warms your cold, dead heart. But, regardless, it was incredibly unlikely that any of them would be able to handle your best friend.
“No offense guys, but I’m pretty sure Namjoon could take both you down easy. He may seem like a big cuddly teddy bear with thighs of steel but he knows how to whoop ass like it’s nobody’s business.”
“Thighs?” Jimin’s ears flicked upwards, interest suddenly peaked.
“Y/n! Open the door, I can hear you talking about my thighs, you damn pervert!”
“Y/n’s not home right now! Come back later!”
“Shut up dumbass! I know where you keep your extra key!”
“Fuck!” You cursed, scrambling out from beneath the table and rushing towards your front door. But, your best friend was a lot quicker than you, and by the time you reached the door, it was already swinging open, revealing a very unamused looking Namjoon and a curious looking Jin peeking over his shoulder. “Joonie! What’s up, babe?”
“Uh-uh, don’t babe me,” he quickly maneuvered past you, stepping into your home with Jin following closely behind, “what exactly did you mean when you said three—” his sentence cut off as his eyes slid over to the entrance of your living room. There stood your three hybrids. Jimin had his tail gripped tight in quivering fingers, while Jungkook wore a hard glare across his face and Taehyung squirmed in place, looking back and forth uncertainly between you and the unknown man.
Namjoon blinked once, then twice, then looked back at you blankly, “oh you have got to be kidding me.”
“Oops?” You smiled innocently, shrugging.
“Are you out of your mind, y/n?!” He cried in exasperation, hands jumping up to grip at his hair.
At the sound of his raised voice, all three of your hybrids came rushing into action, surrounding you in what seemed to be a protective circle. Jimin curled up against your back, face peeking over your shoulder as his arms wrapped tightly around your torso. Jungkook and Taehyung stood directly in front of you defensively, glaring at your best friend.
“Don’t yell at y/n!” Taehyung whined, ears pressing back against his head, “she didn’t do anything wrong!”
“Don’t yell at my Namjoon!” Jin hissed right back, pushing himself between his owner and your distraught hybrids.
“Don’t yell at Tae!” Jungkook snapped right back, thrusting an arm out in front of Taehyung’s chest
“Why don’t we all calm the fuck down, yeah?” You quickly intervened, placing your hands on Tae’s and Jungkook’s shoulders to pull them back a little in hopes of dissipating the palpable tension that was quickly filling the air.
Tae instantly relaxed at your touch, letting out a quiet whine as he frowned at you. The bunny hybrid on the other hand was determined not to lose the staring contact with Jin, growling and snorting lowly, foot thumping roughly against the floor as he glared at him harshly.
“Jungkook,” you warned, trying to bring his attention back to you. He finally obliged after some gentle coaxing, albeit reluctantly. Letting out a breath of relief at the alleviated tension, you allowed a small, reassuring smile to touch your lips, “boys… this is Namjoon. He’s my best friend. And that pretty kitty is Seokjin, his hybrid.”
The aforementioned feline hybrid’s chest puffed out as you addressed him, eyebrows raising as a smirk touched his lips. He really enjoyed being praised for his appearance.
“Best friend?” Taehyung reiterated, head tilting. You nodded in confirmation, glancing over at Namjoon for a moment. In the blink of an eye, he was back to being the exuberant, outgoing puppy, “Oh! I’m sorry about that! My name is Taehyung! It’s really very nice to meet you!”
A wide smile struck the puppy’s features as he quickly stuck his hand out for Namjoon to shake. Namjoon returned his smile, taking Tae’s large hand into his own, “I’m sorry that I upset you, I understand you were only trying to protect y/n. I shouldn’t have raised my voice.”
“It’s okay… just don’t do it again, please. Y/n is very, very nice to me and I really really don’t want her to be upset.” You felt your heart swell as Taehyung spoke, chest tightening as you gazed at him in awe. Seeing the awestruck expression on your face, Jungkook felt the need to gain your attention and praise as well.
“N–name Jeon Kookie, twenty year old, rex bunny. Nice meet.” He chimed in, perfectly reciting the introduction he’d given when first meeting you. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at you expectantly. You smiled in amusement, murmuring a soft, ‘very good, Kookie.’ He bit the corner of his lip to subdue the grin that threatened to spread across his face.
“And this is Jimin,” you gently took Jimin’s small hand in your own, coaxing him out from where he had hidden himself behind you. He lowered his head shyly, small black ears twitching, only briefly glancing up at the two unfamiliar faces before trying to shrink in on himself. Giggling at his timidity, you placed a calming hand on the small of his back, “do you want to say hi, sweetheart? Namjoon and Jin are very nice.”
He swallowed, shifting on his feet, “h–hi. I’m J–Jimin.”
Namjoon allowed a kind smile to touch his features, emphasized by two deep dimples on either cheek as he addressed the skunk hybrid in a soft, warm voice, “hi, Jimin. It’s nice to meet you.”
Jimin blushed profusely, spinning around to bury his face against your shoulder. You’d almost forget just how shy Jimin was. But, you understood that Namjoon could make just about anyone flustered with that charming smile on his. Even you weren’t immune to those gorgeous dimples.
“Jin, don’t be rude, introduce yourself,” Namjoon huffed, nudging his hybrid’s arm. Jin rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest as he puffed out a breath of air through his nose.
“Seokjin.” He muttered blandly, barely sparing the three an extra glance. Upon noticing the glare he was receiving from his owner, his eyes widened in confusion, “what?! I introduced myself!”
“We have to work on that,” Namjoon muttered, eyes rolling.
“What kind of hybrid are you, Seokjin?” Taehyung asked eagerly, ears perking as that tail of his began its whirlwind wagging, “I’m a mixed breed! Do you see my curls?” The puppy excitedly raised a hand, fingers combing over his curly haired ears.
Jin scowled, spitting out a scoff, “y/n already pointed out that I was a cat. What are you, stupid? Shouldn’t expect anything more from a dog hybrid.”
“I– I just forget things sometimes…” Tae whimpered softly, ears dropping as his tail tucked down between his legs. Instinctively, you reached forward, grabbing his hand in yours.
“Jin!” Namjoon gaped at him in shock and anger, “are you serious? Apologize to him right now.”
Tae whined, shuffling closer to you. “I… I just wanted to play…” he pouted, looking up at you with those massive, shimmering puppy dog eyes that had you immediately melting. That look was absolutely lethal.
“Tae, don’t worry. Jin is going to play with you,” Namjoon reassured. Taehyung instantly brightened, an eager grin taking over his features as he yipped out an excited, ‘really?!’ Namjoon nodded, smirking at a distraught looking Jin, “and if he doesn’t… he doesn’t get catnip for a whole month. And he’s getting all of his special privileges taken away.”
Special privileges? What was he–… oh?
Oh.
Jin gasped, palm flattening across his chest as if he’d just been shot, “y–y–you monster!”
Namjoon shrugged with a lazy smirk, “play with Tae and you won’t have to worry about that, now will you?”
The cat hybrid huffed, tail flicking angrily as he turned to face the beaming puppy. “Fine,” he breathed, “but you slobber on me even a little bit and I swear you’ll lose both—”
“Alright, thank you Jinnie!” Namjoon interrupted abruptly, laughing as he patted Jin’s head with a little more force than usual to shut him up, “Play nice, that means no scratching, biting, or hissing. Y/n and I need to have a talk.”
You winced. You were in trouble…
Taehyung eagerly grabbed Jin’s hand, dragging him towards the stairs while babbling excitedly about all his new toys. Jungkook and Jimin seemed rather stuck in place, obviously unsure what to do with themselves. You offered them a dismissive wave and a soothing smile, “you boys join them. I’ll be up in a little bit, okay?”
“No yell,” Jungkook grunted pointedly at Namjoon, doing his very best to come off as intimidating as he puffed out his chest and allowed his tall ears to stand at their full height. Namjoon chuckled lightly and nodded in agreement.
“No more yelling. I promise.”
Somewhat content with that response, Jungkook gave a curt nod and spun on his heels, marching towards the stairs. Jimin quickly scuttled after him, waving at you in tiny font as he departed. Then it was only you and Namjoon. Biting your lip, you nervously looked over at your glowering best friend. He looked so intimidating, arms crossed over his large chest, sharp eyes narrowed and pinned on you. It wasn’t too often that you experienced this serious side of Namjoon, but when you did, you felt like a little kid being scolded by your disappointed parent. You hated that feeling.
“You’ve got some explaining to do.”
“Anyone ever tell you that you’ve got the most beautiful eyes?”
“Y/n.”
“I’m dead serious!”
“Y/n. Don’t try to change the subject. It won’t work, not this time.”
A moment of silence passed.
“Are you mad at me?” You asked, pouting sadly.
He sighed heavily, shoulders deflating. The stern look in his eyes washed away and turned into something much softer and kinder. “No, of course I’m not mad at you. It was just really irresponsible. You’ve never owned a single hybrid before on your life and all of a sudden you adopt three. Taking on one alone is a big enough commitment as it. Three is– three is on another level entirely.”
“You think I didn’t take a minute to realize that? Hoseok let me know plenty what I was getting into.”
“I don’t think you're getting it, y/n,” his brows furrowed deeply, “hybrids require a lot of a person. The cost—”
“I have the money.”
“The time—”
“I have plenty of time.”
“The maturity and experience that it takes to be a responsible hybrid owner. It can be overwhelming.”
“So what? Are you saying I’m not capable of taking care of these boys? Is that what you’re suggesting, Namjoon?” Your voice began to raise as obvious frustration and hurt seeped into your tone. Of course, you knew that that wasn’t what he was trying to say, but still, it stung nonetheless. Thinking that Namjoon of all people, your best friend, your rock, was doubting you was quite disheartening.
His eyes softened, body losing its tensed posture upon seeing the hurt glimmer in your eyes, “no. Of course not, y/n. I know you're smart enough to know your own limits. I know you wouldn’t have adopted them if you knew that you couldn’t handle it.”
“Damn straight,” you scoffed.
“But—,” you groaned as he continued, “I also know your heart and can a lot bigger than your mind at times.”
You squinted, trying to figure out if that was a compliment to your character or an insult to your intelligence, “t–thanks? I think?”
He chuckled, head shaking as he rephrased himself, “you have a tendency to think with your heart and not your brain.”
“I still have no clue how to take that.”
“It can be a good thing, but it also just means that you don’t think a lot about consequences. You make more in the moment decisions than anything else,” he elaborated, “what I guess I’m trying to say… is you’re going to need help.”
You poked at his stomach playfully, “that’s what you and Jinnie are for, yeah? Also, that super nice guy named Hoseok that worked at the shelter said he’d lend a hand if I ever needed one!”
“Hoseok?” Namjoon murmured, “I think I know him. I’m pretty sure he was working at the shelter when I adopted Jin. Blinding smile and probably shits sunshine and rainbows, right?”
You quickly nodded in agreement, fingers snapping, “yes! That’s him! The dude was fucking radiant, Jesus Christ.”
Namjoon chuckled lightly, gazing down at you with familiar glimmer in his dark eyes as you prattled on about to human embodiment of pure happiness that had promised to give you a helping hand if you so desired one. He truly did have faith in you, he knew you were more responsible than you lead on with your childish tendencies, but he also knew you could be quite stubborn and at times had difficulty admitting when you needed help. He’d have to keep a close eye on you and those hybrids of yours, he knew that much.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smile as beautiful and bright as his, I really don’t. Oh! He also said that he has a hybrid of a own! I forget his name though. Yogi? Yoonie? Yo—”
“Y/n.” His deep voice cut off your rambling abruptly, throwing you back into the realization that a serious conversation needed to be had. Even if you’d much rather avoid it. Seriousness wasn’t your thing. But you also knew when it was necessary. You sighed lightly, smile melting away as you looked up at him with as much genuine, convincing sincerity as you could muster.
“I’ve got this, Joonie. Seriously. I already really care about them. And I think they’re starting to like me, too. They’re not bad hybrids, I can tell. A little mischievous, sure, I’ll admit that. But they’re good boys.”
A low whine had your head snapping around, spotting a squirming Taehyung standing in the entryway. His tail was swinging heavily back and forth as his lips trembled with his feeble attempt to subdue the grin threatening to plaster itself across his face.
“Tae,” you breathed, brows raised in surprise, “How long have you been standing there?”
Instead of answering, he responded to your question with one of his own. “You think Tae’s good boy?”
The third person tripped you up for half a second, but you simply brushed it off as Jungkook’s influence. You sighed, lips turning upwards at the corners as your shoulders relaxed. “I think you’re a very good boy, Tae.”
It took all of two seconds for you to be knocked flat on your back, Tae on top of you, his entire body moving back and forth from how hard he was wagging his tail, as he lathered your face in quick, wet licks. Squeals and loud laughter erupted from your lips as his tongue tickled your neck, jaw, and face. Your hands quickly found his shoulders, trying to push him back enough that you could probably breathe at the very least. “Tae!” You choked out through your giggles, fingers fisting in the material of his top, “Joonie help!”
But your best friend offered no assistance, only grinning in wild amusement as you squealed and thrashed under the weight of your far too easily excited puppy hybrid. “Tae! Tae, look! Jungkook’s got one of your squeaky toys!” You managed to shriek, throwing a finger in the direction of the empty staircase.
“WHAT?!” Tae instant leapt off you, whirling around to face the stairs. By the time he realized you’d lied, you’d already jumped back onto your feet and ducked behind Namjoon’s broad form.
The puppy hybrid pouted heavily once he realized you’d lied, “hey… that wasn’t nice.”
You snickered lightly. “What’re you doing down here, Tae? I thought you and Jinnie were playing.”
“We were! I showed him all my toys and Kookie is showing him his video games but we want you to come play, too!” His expressed, grabbing onto your hand and tugging you quickly towards the stairs, excitement shining with his large chocolate eyes. You allowed him pull you forwards, briefly looking back over your shoulder at your best friend and gesturing for him to follow suit behind you. Stumbled up the stairs and into the room behind your overexcited puppy, you were greeted by the sight of three hybrids perched in front of the television.
Jungkook was squished between Jin and Jimin, both watching with remarkable concentration and interests as the bunny hybrid played an intense round of Mario Kart. You covered your mouth to stifle the coo of adoration that was fighting its way up your throat, not wanting to interrupt the adorable trio. But Jimin was quick to take notice of your presence, a sweet smile plastering itself across his face as he stood up, trotting over to you, “y/n! Come watch! Kookie’s really good at this game!”
You allowed him to tug you over to the empty spot he’d previously abandoned on the floor. You sat first, and just as Jimin was about to plop down beside you, you grabbed his hips and tugged him down into your lap, arms wrapping securely around his small waist to keep him from squirming away. He let out a squeak of shock, eyes widening significantly as his face blushed hotly, his darling flustered expression coaxing a light chuckle from your lips. “Comfortable?” You questioned teasingly, testing your chin on his shoulder.
You cooed softly as he offered a shy nod in reply, head ducking as he tried to disguise the way his lips tugged upwards. His small fingers found the fabric of your sleeves, curling into it tightly. Always so precious.
Without a second thought, you turned your attention to the round of Mario Kart being played by your bunny hybrid. It didn’t take long for Taehyung to drop down beside you, tail thumping against your back as he barked out words of encouragement to Kookie as he started up his final lap. Even Jin looked completely enthralled in the game, eyes wide, ears perked forward, body shifting ever for seconds, squirming eagerly in place.
And sitting there, on the uncomfortable floor, so close to the television screen that your eyes ached, with the five most unexpectedly important people in your life, you couldn’t remember a time you felt so… full. The empty feeling that had long lingered in side of you had grown so small, even in the past few hours, that it was barely recognizable as an emptiness at all.
Suddenly, you felt a light tug on your sleeve. “Y-y/n?”
“Yes, Jiminie?”
“What are special privileges?”
God damnit Kim Namjoon.
