Alright, it's Mermay, and now I got thoughts! I love mermaids and anyone who knows me knows Miruko and Midoriya are my faves.
So of course, this post is going to be all that combined!
First! Shoutout to my lovely moot, @minisheku
I have had so much motivation to conjure up some details of this Mer!AU have in mind now that my eyes have been opened!!

Mer!Miruko
For Miruko, she's a sea bunny mermaid to me. So like in canon, she does have a Rabbit tail and ears. Except, the features are more aquatic. The ears are white and tipped black, thin like a sea bunny's rhinophores and her sea bunny tail is black instead of the white in canon. Her eyes are red, just like in canon. Her hair also remains white, like in canon, but also switches into purple at the ends.
The base color of her mermaid tail is white with black, purple, red and gold scales scattered on it here and there. The same scales cover her sides and breasts. In addition, she has black fins, a larger one on the end and two side fins, one on each side of her mermaid tail. She has deep brown skin.
She has gills on the sides of her neck and her "rabbit" tail works as gills. Miruko's hands are also clawed (like how Burnin's hands are) and she has a black coloring that runs from her hands and up to her forearms like gloves. Miruko also has fangs, her default, however when she gets aggressive or defending herself, all her teeth are sharp (think Kirishima). Her build is how she is in canon athletic and curvaceous. She also has a thin scar on her left arm from an incident.
Like sea bunnies, Miruko's diet consists mostly of algae, seagrass, and sea sponges. However, she doesn't shy away from eating other sea life. She also has eaten humans.
Due to her diet, Miruko possesses toxins that she can use to paralyze and potentially kill however she chooses. Her rhinophores/ears works as sensors to detect chemicals.
Miruko's personality is relatively the same as in canon. Bit abrasive, speaks her mind, a tough cookie. Here though, she's also friendly, caring and protective. She's wary around others, except Izuku, Inko and Hisashi. She has instincts that alert her of potential threats and has ease reading others.

MER!DEKU
At first, like Miruko, I envisioned Izuku to be a sea bunny merman, but changed him to a sea sheep merman. (Idea was inspired by my lovely moot.) As he does in canon, he still has his green eyes, green hair with black shadows and freckles. Instead of human ears, he has sheep-like ears that droop down. Of course, aquatic and thin, and the ears/rhinophores are sensitive. They're colored green.
The base color of his mermaid tail is black with green, light green and teal green scales scattered here and there. The same scales cover his sides and stop just under his chest. His end fin is spiky, a bundle of green cerata (the leaf-like appendages) resembling the body of a sea sheep's. He has smaller cerata in a bundle at the base of his waist to form a sheep-like tail. He also has these same green appendages going down his back.
Like Miruko, Izuku has gills on the sides of his neck. He also has fangs, that can convert to rows of sharp teeth whenever he feels aggressive and defensive. He has clawed hands. From his hands up to his forearms is a light green coloring that blends into his light skin. He also has freckles on his shoulders, and many scars as he does in canon, the most prominent one being the large abrasion on his upper right. His fingers on his right hand are also slightly deformed. He also has defines muscles.
Like sea sheep, Izuku's diet relies on algae. Also due to possessing chlorophyll in his cerata, Izuku also can perform photosynthesis. He also eats smaller aquatic life, seaweed and humans.
His rhinophores/ears work as sensors. He also has the ability to create "smokescreens" that are more effective underwater to blind his targets and work to hide him.
Again, like Miruko, his personality is nearly the same. He's compassionate and often times excited about learning the world around him and easily analyzes what surrounds him. He used to be timid, but over time grew out of it. He's also protective (mostly of his family) and sweet as he is, Izuku is prone to get angry and violent.

Here's some added details!
There are other merfolk and it's not often male merfolk are born, so Izuku is a rare case.
As in some tales, merfolk are violent in nature, responsible for some disasters and tragedies. However, not all merfolks are like this. Some are peaceful and only choose to become aggressive whenever they're in danger.
They're capable of magic, often using it to create homes and children. Sometimes, merfolk use magic to grant themselves han appearances. Miruko and Izuku can do this.
Jumping off that, when children are born, they are first enclosed in shells that don't open until ready. The infants are typically the size of a tennis ball at birth.
For a little bit of history, Inko and Hisashi were newlyweds when they found Miruko and Izuku's shells and raised them as their own children at a house near the beach inherited by Hisashi. Inko and Hisashi are human.
For now, that's all I have for Miruko and Izuku are merfolk! I'm still working on more for this AU, not planning on making it too big of one though and I do have a fic in the works for this AU.
