The character descriptions didn’t give us anything about Emmrich’s personality, so I read the short story The Flame Eternal by Sylvia Feketekuty, and it turns out he’s a kind heart with a flare for the dramatic and maybe a bit of a romantic streak. His job is talking to restless dead spirits to help them find peace, and he genuinely seems to care about them but is also a big nerd about his field of study.

I’m extremely charmed.
