Besides wanting to catch up with some old friends, there’s only one reason you found yourself agreeing to attend your 10 year high school reunion. The boy you were in love with back then is going to be there, and you’re determined to finally make your move. Except, unfortunately, it turns out that Kim Seokjin is very much happily married. Kim Taehyung, however, is very much single and feels like he has something to prove to you after you turned him down all those years ago. One night is all it takes to make you realize you made the biggest mistake of your life.

One more drink. You just needed one more to work up the courage to speak to your high school crush for the first time in ten years. Thank God whoever had planned your reunion had thought to include an open bar. You watched from across the room as the man currently plaguing your thoughts mingled effortlessly with all your old classmates. Even ten years later he was still mister popular it seemed. That signature windshield wiper laugh reached your ears even from the opposite end of the ballroom, the sound stirring the butterflies in your stomach.
You knew it had to be a new level of pathetic to still be hung up on your high school crush all these years later, and it wasn’t like you hadn’t dated in the meantime or anything. A part of you had just always been holding out for Kim Seokjin. It had always felt like he was the one who got away, even though it was your own fault for being too scared to ever tell him how you felt. Better late than never right? Ten years late, but still. You were determined to finally take that leap of faith tonight, and if you were lucky you would get the fairy tale rom com ending where the two of you would live happily ever after. Every sip of your rum and coke pushed you that much closer to riding off into the sunset with your broad shouldered prince.
“You know, we may not have been that close in high school, but I’m pretty sure people don’t attend their reunion to spend the entire night at the bar sitting in quiet contemplation with the bartender.”
You looked up from your drink to meet Yoongi’s gaze, “And here I thought we were having a great time.”
The blonde man chuckled as he pulled out some bottles from underneath the counter.
“She’s just stalling cause even ten years later, she still doesn’t know how to talk to Seokjin.”
The comment had come from Namjoon, who had taken up residence on the stool next to yours.
You groaned and the newcomer laughed.
“Oh fuck off, Joon. I’m surprised you even came to this at all.” you voiced before downing more of your drink.
“Yeah well, Jimin and Jungkook threatened to egg all of our houses if we didn’t show.” he informed you.
You snorted at that, Yoongi joining in as well.
“Good to know that some things never change. Those two are still idiots.” you remarked, earning a grin from Namjoon.
“Ouch Y/N, I don’t remember you being this mean in high school.”
Cue idiot number one: Jeon Jungkook. He was seated on the other side of you, a beer in his tattooed hand.
“I do,” came Jimin’s voice from beside him, “she always loved to pick on me.”
You swiveled on your stool to face both of them, “Don’t pretend like you didn’t give it right back, Park. I would say we wanted to kill each other at least ninety-seven percent of the time.”
“Okay yeah, that’s fair.” Jimin agreed before turning to Yoongi to order a drink.
“So I know Hoseok’s stuck being the dj tonight, but how come the rest of you aren’t hanging out with Seokjin?” you asked curiously as you surveyed the four men.
Namjoon nervously rubbed the back of his neck.
“Oh, uh, we didn’t really keep in touch with him after graduation. I guess you could say we had a little bit of a falling out…” he trailed off.
You were genuinely surprised by his words. The seven of them had been inseparable back in your high school days. Wait a minute.
“Where’s Taehyung?” you inquired further upon realizing the man’s absence for the first time.
“Ugh, he’s not coming. Kook and I are gonna go egg his house after this if you wanna come?” Jimin said, extending the invitation.
Him and Jungkook both watched you expectantly as they waited for your response.
“Sorry boys you’ll have to go be degenerates without me.” you replied, and both men pouted at you in disappointment.
You had been a pretty frequent member of their friend group back in high school, the eight of you would get up to all kinds of trouble. You’d had some degree of closeness with each of them, but you’d been the closest with Taehyung. It made you sad to think that they had drifted apart from each other over the years, but also that Taehyung wouldn’t be coming tonight at all.
