I Like Owning Things To Show Off To My Friends And Share With People - Tumblr Posts

Something I think about often now is how our culture now revolves around subscriptions, digital streaming, and how we don’t own much anymore. Nothing we have is in a physical space WITH us.

You don’t really realize now much physical media is getting lost to time. Movies. Shows. Books. Games. Music. Sure, streaming and the digitalization of things make loads more accessible and that’s wonderful…

but you don’t OWN any of it.

Does anyone else feel that it’s kind of your responsibility to keep owning physical things to make sure that nothing gets lost to time? You don’t realize how much you miss out on, growing up at the early digital age.

With almost everything being online and digital, does that prevent us from sharing our love for things and experiences with people in person? Was interacting with physical things like movies, music, games important to our health, and to experiencing art itself?

I kinda think convenience and the digitization of almost everything in our lives is bunk.

It kinda feels so mindless sometimes. Subscribing to things to watch or listen to things, paying for video games but it’s basically a digital receipt saying you bought it. But do you really own it?

I bought a PlayStation about 2 years ago, because I began looking into collecting old things like vinyls, cassettes, cds, dvds, and more. I also was DYING to play Xenogears, which was only available on a PS1 without emulation. (I am scared of emulation because I don’t wanna mess up my files)

After finally getting my hands on older games for it though garage sales and retro game stores, I found myself getting frustrated about how little companies value physical media. And how things will get lost to time because of digitization and mediums becoming obsolete.

I may discuss this more depending on how well I can gather my thoughts on it… but I don’t like how companies and in turn our culture is shifting away from owning physical things, and instead playing for media that you don’t OWN.
