the other week i encountered the worst elevator i have found to this point in my life. the doors were manual, and the elevator was controlled by both buttons and a handle used to drive the elevator up and down (i'm honestly still not quite sure how you were supposed to use it). after getting into it, the doors refused to latch properly several times before allowing the elevator to move. almost immediately, we figured out that the elevator had somehow switched into a fully manual driving mode where the buttons seemingly did nothing when we opened the doors only to find the wall of the elevator shaft. after a bit of driving up and down, we managed to get the elevator to a floor, about a foot misaligned, and got off. also this is what the panel looked like:
