Yes yes yes, my thoughts exactly. Also, James literally describes him as looking like a piece of art:

“Matthew always looked quite different when he was asleep. Leighton was famous for painting children in their innocence, and when Matthew slept, he looked as if sorrow had never touched him.”

((I love it when James describes Matthew with music undertones:

“Matthew moved into position to fight him, the staff as light and easily balanced in his hand as if he were a conductor gesturing with his baton. He moved with easy grace, like any Shadowhunter would, but somehow as if he was playing, as if at any moment he might be dancing.”

Matthew is graceful, he moves as if he could be dancing, he holds weapons as if they are batons, his voice is musical and pleasant to hear, so much people gather to hear him talk, to hear him tell stories. He loves art so much and despairs he can’t produce any, but doesn’t realise he’s like art himself.))
