ej always asking others if they’re okay or how they feel. even since s1, he showed concern for ricky after he came backstage and asked him to fill in for troy.
ej’s first lines EVER are “that’s amazing. you’re amazing.” and they’re directed at kourtney when she says that looking good and fighting intersectional feminism is her summer job in s1. he continues to praise her amazingness in s2 and is visibly impressed by her talents.
in regards to nini in s1, yes he’s her boyfriend and likes her but he always supported her and consistently did so even after they had broken up. for example, when miss jenn gets fired, he tells her that everyone will be missing out on her role as gabriella and thoroughly continues to support her in s2 when she’s a guest in the morning show. and i can name someone who didn’t support her even when they were dating but i won’t because this post is about ej.
during the tech rehearsal, ej tells carlos that he always steps up even though they had an argument about authenticity and carlos had criticized ej for not having emotional connection to the role of troy. in s2, he wants to give carlos the best birthday video and even expresses that he loves him.
although they’re not remotely close, ej shows concern for ricky when he tells him that he’s not feeling well and can’t continue on with the show in s1. instead of, you know, pushing him out of the way and taking the spotlight without showing any care for his castmate’s wellbeing.
even though mr. mazzara approached ej to talk about him and his rejection to duke, ej took into consideration what mr. mazzara said and scored him a spot in the tech school of his dreams using his father’s name.
and yeah, ej did cancel his date with gina but he wasn’t rude about it. used ashlyn being the lead as an excuse to go to the party and support her. he thought he doing was the right thing like he did with nini at the end of s1. he had feelings for gina but if she saw him as a brother, he didn’t want to make her feel awkward. which was a huge misunderstanding but even then he made that speech about how everyone was important to him, including gina. like god forbid that ej have any feelings, right? if you don’t think ej cried in his car on the way to slices you’re seriously mistaken that child was on the verge of tears during and after the party.
