Day 13: Feathers
Tokoyami walked down the hall on an early Saturday morning, enjoying the peace and quiet that came with the early morning. The air was crisp and cool, and he felt a great calm wash over him as he basked in the silence.
Aside from having the privacy to do as he pleased, this is one of the reasons why Tokoyami loved the early mornings. However, his calm and tranquil mood was suddenly interrupted by a familiar voice calling out in a very unfamiliar way. He picked up his pace as he walked towards the sound, only to find that no one was calling out at all. Someone was crying.
And that someone was his Songbird.
He knocked on the door, then tried to open it. It was locked. “Ochako? Sweetheart? Will you open the door please?“ He asked.
“No!” came the answer, followed by more crying.
“Please, please, darling, open the door. Won’t you let me help you?”
Finally, after a minute, he heard the door click. It took all of his self-control not to burst in there like there was an emergency. He knew that if there was she would’ve gotten help or immediately opened the door. But despite the fact that there wasn’t any real danger, it didn't ease his sense of urgency.
He slowly shut the door behind him, and found his poor girlfriend, Ochako Uraraka, sitting on her bed with a hand over her face, sobbing.
“Love, what’s wrong?“ He asked, kneeling in front of her.
She looked away. “Nothing,” she said. “I’m just overwhelmed,” she admitted. “This whole being a hero thing is a lot sometimes. And then I’ve got things that I’m trying to work on personally, you know, so I can become a better person,” she said, and he nodded in agreement. “And I know that’s good for me, but it's a lot of work. maybe I’m just making a mountain out of a molehill.“
“I disagree,” Tokoyami said. “It’s perfectly valid to get overwhelmed, and there’s nothing wrong with feeling that way.”
He was still kneeling in front of her, mainly to try to make eye contact, but he took advantage of his position and reached up and cupped her cheek, brushing away a tear with his thumb.
“Is there anything I can do to help?“
“I don’t think so, I think I just have to let these feelings pass. I’ve already been journaling, so that has helped and so has music,” she said, groaning as she felt her eyes well up with tears. “But there’s this final bump I can’t get over, and I don’t know what to do.“
“Darling, Songbird, won’t you let me cuddle you?”
Uraraka nodded, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks.
“Come on then, let’s get onto the bed.”
They lay down and he held her close, feeling his heart break as she sobbed loudly into his chest. Tokoyami rubbed her back and murmured quiet comforts in her ear.
“That’s it, let it all out.”
“I’m here.”
“Your feelings are absolutely and one hundred percent valid my dear, and it’s more than okay to feel this way.”
“Take as much time as you need. I’m not going anywhere.”
“I’ll do everything in my power to help you, I hope you know that.”
“I love you.”
And eventually, her tears stopped.
“I love you too,” she whispered.
Touched by her words and relieved that she’d stopped crying, he kissed her lips briefly, then nuzzled her neck as he was sometimes prone to do, as there were some bird-like habits he simply couldn’t shake.
And as he nuzzled her, she made a sound.
Tokoyami’s heart leaped.
He pulled away and looked at her, his eyes lighting up at seeing the tiniest of smiles on her face.
“Was that a giggle?” he asked, his tone soft and gentle with a hint of playfulness.
“Maybe,” Uraraka said quietly, blushing ever so slightly.
He nuzzled her neck again.
“Ehehehehehe! Fumi! Your feheheheathers tickle! Ehehehehe!”
“Good,” he murmured, then began to kiss her neck over and over, making her let out a giddy squeal and even more giggles. “That’s it,” he teased, continuing to nuzzle and tickle her neck and ears with his feather. “Laugh at all the tickly, tickly, tickles. I love it when my Songbird sings.”
He paused, gave her neck one last kiss, then pulled away and gave her a quick kiss on the lips before settling back down next to her.
“There’s my girl,” he cooed, seeing her big, bashful smile.
She buried her face in his chest, squeaking out of embarrassment. He laughed and hugged her.
“I’m always here if you need anything, anything at all. Am I clear, my dear?”
She nodded into his chest, and replied with a muffled, “Thank you. I love you so much.”
He held her close and began to gently stroke her hair. “I love you so much too.”
