I'm Kinda A Noob As Well To This And I Get Overwhelmed If I Have Like More Than Two Platforms Haha - Tumblr Posts

So I've only gotten into posting my art in the past few months so I don't know if this is helpful. I've tried Instagram, Tumblr, and Ko-fi. I have no idea how to get engagement on Ko-fi 😭 I've gotten none at all there haha.

I've mostly had success on Tumblr with tags, but even still it doesn't seem like people really click on my account and look through my work. My posts that aren't tagged much will get next to no interaction. I've noticed most of my stuff rides on the popularity of whatever fandom it's from and if I'm lucky I'll get 5-10 followers from a popular piece. Which I'm hoping will eventually build up haha. If I do something that isn't fanart I've noticed I can get interaction as well by tagging certain aesthetics and such too if they're fitting enough. Like cottagecore and stuff like that.

Instagram is pretty bad, I think it helps to build a following with people you know irl first for Instagram. The only reason I'm keeping Instagram is because I'm going to sell at a convention soon and it's a fairly popular platform generally. Otherwise the algorithm buries anything under a few thousand likes and you have to post constantly to have a chance. I've only once or twice gotten interaction from people that weren't followers there.

I have a friend who swears I'd get a lot more interaction on Twitter, I just personally haven't tried it yet. I've been hearing Bluesky is getting bigger as well as a platform, but also haven't tried it yet.

Away from specific platforms though, I've gotten quite a bit of interaction from initiating things with other artists. I did a few Art Fight attacks and people from Art Fight followed me on Tumblr. I also did some fan art for a fanfiction (for funsies) and the author said she's going to promote me in her fics from now on. So I think you can get some attention from just interacting with others

Hello everyone! 👋

I got a genuine question for my fellow artists: How do you promote yourself on social media and is it working out for you?

I'm not sure what exactly to do, I've seen a few videos and tips but idk if i just have issue with putting things frequently enough or there are more things at play.

If anyone has ideas and experiences to share please do 💖
