imma be completely real the one that immediately comes to mind is Artemis in No Man's Sky spoilers ahead it's not necessarily that I cried the hardest it's the way it was executed you (the player) spend the whole story up to that point searching for Artemis communicating with this person you think you should know you grow to believe you are friends with Artemis you even speak with their other friend who urges you to help them you spend hours and hours trying to find them and save them and when you finally find them... they're gone but not just that Artemis has been dead the whole fucking time you sought and sought and tried your hardest and it was for nothing you were only ever talking to an echo of who they once were you realize as you stand literally at their grave that you befriended the ghost of Artemis and now you just have to move on this game makes you understand and accept loss like no other I have ever played i fucking love this game no man's sky
