I actually have so many opinions about this, but I think that the main difference for me is their disposition towards themselves and others.

A mom/mom friend actively assumes responsibility because they enjoy taking care of people. A sister/sister friend begrudgingly takes responsibility for stuff because they hate to see their friends struggle over something they believe they can help with. Where a mom friend might coddle and protect feelings, an older sister is not afraid to be real and tell you how it is.

I think in general an “older sister,” is someone who’s perhaps more experienced but at the end of the day a party’s equal.

It sucks that Jane and Kanaya got shoved into the mommy friend roles cause they’ve got such potent exasperated older sister and bug eyed younger sister energy respectively
